I think he's the first off the board as well considering the teams in the top 3 (Raiders, Cardinals, 49ers) won't be looking for a quarterback.

Honestly of the excrement teams "competing" with the Jets in the battle of futility, the teams that strike me as possibilities to either take Herbert in front of us or trade up for him seem to be the Giants, Denver and possible the Bucs depending on how Jameis looks for the rest of the season.

The Giants sent the majority of their scouting dept including Gettleman to watch Herbert a few weeks ago.  Their fan base is drooling over him. I kinda hope he declares, so we can ransom our pick.  Obviously, it's easier said than done...but our FO should try to make the attempt.

If we don't trade down, i'm fine with that too.

Justin Herbert took a big hit and hurt his throwing shoulder, didn’t play the 2nd half today

I'm going to be so disappointed if we use our first on a receiver.

Sadly it depends on FA and depends on the board.

If FA lends us Demarcus Lawrence and Le'Veon Bell, and the top pass rushers are off the board when we pick, grabbing the next great receiver to pair with Sam isn't a bad idea.

We all wish FA + draft had top OL prospects, but it simply doesn't seem to be there, and if we can't do that, you give Sam the best damn weapons we can find for him, because we don't have any to speak of. If we can't protect him yet, we need to make it easier to get the ball out of his hands as fast as possible.
Need a new one for a new board...

I'm going to be so disappointed if we use our first on a interior DL.

I would prefer the top OT

I’m on the OL train too.

Protecting Sam should be top priority before providing him with better weapons

Draft BPA, preferably on offense, and I'm good with it

OT. Not getting helping Darnold's front seven this draft is a commitment to him failing as a draft pick.

Getting the best player we can (especially if there is a significant talent gap there) is never a bad thing. Sam needs lots of talent all over the roster to help him win games.

Don’t get me wrong the priorities go like this

1. Protection
2. Playmakers
3. Defense

But if, for example, Bosa is still on the board when we pick, you are going to pass on him, an exceptionally elite prospect, for a strong OL or playmaker prospect?

That’s how bad teams stay bad, passing on top talent intentionally.

FA is for need, top 2 rounds are for the best players you can find.

If the prospects are close, you grab the guy that fits ours needs best. But you can’t pass on an elite pass rusher purely because he doesn’t play offense

I’ve always been on board the BPA train, but our offense is a dumpster fire and needs an injection of talent. I’m not passing on Bosa, but I won’t be happy if we draft DT

If we draft a DT, the #FireDuff hashtag will be born.

While some of these reciever look promising if rather not spend a 1st on a wr.  Most take 3 years to get acclimated to the nfl and sam needs help now.  Pay a free agent now, and draft playmakers in the later rounds to groom for later
