I hope McBride is a good enough punt returner where we don't have to worry about that position.

If he's not, the Jets are in the position where they will be using a roster spot on a guy whose sole role is kick/punt returns. If that's the case, it might make sense to keep Atkinson as the RB3 as opposed to Roberts as the WR7.

Roberts is going to be the returner.  He reliably catches it.  The Jets can't afford not to meet that threshold.  Can't be turning it over when you play close games.

Is Roberts that much worse if a WR than McBride? 

Ones at the end of his career, the other the beginning.
