Brandon Nimmo sent down for a pitcher. Callaway says the primary reason was to get consistent ABs

We also haven't been able to get much length out of our starters, so the extra bullpen depth is more valuable than a 5th outfielder right now.

Having the extra bullpen arm is invaluable, and Nimmo should be back up with the Mets fairly soon.

If it were up to me, I would've been inclined not to sign Jay Bruce for three years this offseason, to see what we had with a Cespedes/Nimmo/Conforto outfield with Lagares rotating in. That being said, having Nimmo to call on means that we might be able avoid giving meaningful at-bats to some combination of Matt denDecker and Ty Kelly in the outfield this summer.

I have to say, I'm really happy for Mets fans right now. This is an incredible start. I'm generally indifferent to them and don't follow news about them, but was anything like this expected coming into this season?
