Haven’t watched much lately, but it sounds like Jeff McNeil is a pretty damn good hitter

Actually excited to see the Mets with a young core next year. They have 3 top SP, a couple of live arms in Lugo/Gsellman. Freeman looks to be a real hitter. Nimmo has great plate discipline and showed way more power than he ever had in the minors. Rosario was much better offensively in the 2nd half. Conforto had some hot streaks where he looked to be capable of the player he was before. I think the slow start was him coming back from injury too soon. Hopefully they add Pete Alonso to the mix next season.

Offseason shopping list:
Catcher
Bullpen
Middle of order bat

like you mentioned we have a fair amount of good core pieces and really good starting pitching. rosario, conforto, nimmo, mcneil, our SP, some decent prospects in the minors. alonso can absolutely rake and he should have been up this year but he wasn't because of our onwers.

if we want to be honest, this team is going nowhere. we don't have owners willing to put in the reasonable amount of resources needed to field a championship level team. we are just going to keep bargain hunting for less than adequate players and tell the media that we're serious, when the wilpons are not serious at all. they are the worst owners in the league

Agree with your other point in your post, this is the best (deepest) the Mets minor league system has looked in a long time.

Also agree that they’re going nowhere because of the ownership.

I'm not a Mets fan, or even an NL fan, so I don't have a dog in the race, but it will be a near criminal act if deGrom doesn't win the Cy Young. Buster Olney posted a ridiculous stat this morning.

Quote from: @Buster_ESPN
The statistic that might be most emblematic of Jacob deGrom's 2018:
With the bases loaded, opposing hitters went 0-for-13 with nine strikeouts.
That's for an entire season.
Teams that draft well do so no matter where they pick. Teams that draft poorly do so no matter where they pick I want my team to win games and draft well

Everybody knows the Coupons run the team. The only reason they got Alderson is because the league made them.

On the one hand, I'm relatively relieved they didn't end up hiring Doug Melvin, another aging retread. On the other hand, a top agent with no experience in an MLB front office is a massive, massive gamble.

It does seem like they picked the guy who will negotiate aggressively but be easy to control regarding roster decisions. Difficult not to be incredibly pessimistic.
