2013 Heisman Trophy
« on: December 14, 2013, 01:16:26 PM »
This year is probably the first time in my life that I'm not interested in this award's ceremony.

Jameis Winston is the clear favorite and two of the nominations were completely ridiculous and an insult to the award.

I understand why Johnny Manziel is there.  He is the incumbent.  But Jordan Lynch and Tre Mason have absolutely no business being in New York.

Tre Mason had an outstanding game against Missouri (and a strong season this year), but in my opinion, the only reason he was added to this list of finalists is for publicity reasons.  They want to have Florida State vs. Auburn at the ceremony.

Jordan Lynch put up great numbers, but he plays against garbage and his team lost.  The same exact reasons that kept Derek Carr out of New York.

Instead of nominating so many players, give us the three or four top dogs and vote.

It should be Jameis Winston, AJ McCarron, Johnny Manziel, and Andre Williams.

5th largest margin of victory by a Heisman winner, and he was left off the ballot by 115 voters. Cam Newton was left off of 105 ballots.

Astonishing.

Astonishing.

He's a redshirt freshman and he plays in the ACC - two things that will pee off old voters.  It's more shocking that Newton was left off of that many ballots, even with the scandal.

Newton had the best statistics that I have ever seen from a player in a major conference.  Those numbers are insane.

Winston deserved it, but he won by such a large margin because the rest of the finalists were weak competition.  No other major conference player put up record numbers for top program.  It was his award, rape or not.

Since my hiatus has ended I'm just dropping in on stuff I missed.

The He is man was decided the day he wasn't charged.

And honestly this year, not one person could hold Wins tons jock. Definitely a weaker year for the other nominees, but still doesn't change the fact Winston is one of the best in the country and was THE best this yr.

If he can replicate his level of play in the Championship and into next season I will give him Andrew Luck type draft grading.

Call me crazy but I've seen enough of his mechanics, footwork, and arm talent to say Luck is the only guy in the past decade who I liked as much.

And I have the ability to take my Nobles fan hat off while I say this with a straight face.

I would like to see him get tested more but I don't see Auburn putting up a fight defensively.

I'll save my breakdown of the title game for the appropriate thread when its made.

But this game will essentially be a chess match between Pruitt and Malzahn
