I feel like this is a slightly dangerous line of defense to use, given the logical corollary is that the sitting President must therefore be able to classify documents equally as easily and with an equal lack of documented process. And given there's documented evidence of the Government repeatedly asking for said documents back, it stands to reason that the current President must have exercised that power in the same way that Trump claimed to when he was the President, and as a citizen he must have known at that point that the documents were once again classified.
