So in a pass first nfl you dont think that a running back who is a mediocre runner thats pretty good in pass protection and receiving the ball is more valuable than a back who is a pretty good runner but is poor in pass protection and receiving the ball ?
That's a really good question. I'm not sure there's a clear answer to that. I will pick a couple nits, though.
Bilal Powell is a serviceable receiver, at best. Catching screen passes isn't the criteria for a pretty good receiving back. (Obligatory Reuben PFF stat: Powell ranks 35th out of 45 running backs in Drop Rate).
Of course to be fair, Chris Ivory is virtually incapable of catching the ball. When you expand the Drop Rate list to include all running backs, Ivory is 160th out of 161. I was actually surprised there was somebody worse than him, but apparently Denver's CJ Anderson dropped the only pass thrown to him this season for a perfect 100%.
