Anyone think he'll be active for the Bills game?

I don't care.  I want him to be active for that Baltimore game though.

it's certainly possible.  Reed should be able to recite Rex's defensive playbook.

JasonLaCanfora: Ed Reed and Rex Ryan were already simpatico, and Reed flew to NY last nite, had long meeting with GM John Idzik, impressed him....
JasonLaCanfora: Reed also underwent a lengthy physical this morning for the Jets and they're comfortable with his hip and health. Should practice today

Great to hear. As hesitant as I was about this, it looks like they did things the right way. I'm excited!!!1

it's certainly possible.  Reed should be able to recite Rex's defensive playbook.

Reed also played for Dennis Thurman in Baltimore, so a lot of the calls are probably familiar to him.

But you have to realize that he spent multiple years away from this staff and he just learned an entirely new scheme in Houston.

It should be easy for him to pick back up, but it may not come right away.

Schemes are going to change.  You will get destroyed if things stay exactly the same.

Exciting!  Anyone think he will spell or be spelled by Landry?  Reed surely would be comfortable calling plays, and I don't want Allen off the field.

I'm already so pumped for that game. But it'd be sweet to see him on the field Sunday.

No, he's going to play on passing downs and Allen will likely come off.

Dawan Landry will slide to strong safety when this happens.

I expect his snaps to be pretty limited as a Jet.  Allen will probably play more unless Reed surprises.

good point.

I don't think we need him for the Bills game....but you're right about Baltimore, he has to play there.

I'd expect he doesn't spell Landry, Allen's off the field a lot more anyway. I'm guessing (at first) he'll play in certain packages with two deep safeties alongside Landry on passing downs.

As old as he is, this signing allows the Jets to bring a little more pressure when Reed's on the field.

Man, it would have been great to post about this on the JO Facebook page if we had new graphics for it.

I really have no problems with this signing. I feel much like I did when we signed Tomlinson - sure, I'd have preferred him as he was five years ago, but it's still freaking Ed Reed.
