The NFL has issued severe media restrictions for training camp.
Each team will be allowed only four pool reporters, none of whom will be allowed to tweet from practice. There are also significant, new restrictions on what can later be reported in articles. This has absolutely nothing to do with coronavirus safety and everything to do with a long-held NFL dream of limiting media access. It's counter-productive, as the more reporting and tweeting, the more interest there is in the product. It would be a great shame were these restrictions to remain in place following the COVID-19 pandemic.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the league has proposed a $40 million reduction to the 2020 salary cap of $198.2 million.
The laughable proposal would necessitate widespread veteran releases and contract re-negotiations. You can probably guess the NFLPA's response: "Lol." The union wants to spread the hit out over multiple future seasons. As Profootballtalk's Mike Florio points out, the players have zero obligation to negotiate the 2020 cap. The "mutual duty to bargain" does not kick in until 2021. It is entirely predictable that the league is trying to spread out the unforeseen losses, something it would never do with unforeseen gains. As was the case with Major League Baseball's coronavirus negotiations, this has the potential to get ugly in a hurry. It is mind boggling that the process was not ramped up sooner.

Regardless the nfl is asking for major trouble here, and if there's any truth to this, it makes it all the more likely we don't see a season on time

ESPN's Dan Graziano reports the NFL salary cap "could drop by up to $70 million" in 2021 due to reduced revenues stemming from the coronavirus.
Player and staff safety are the top priorities for the NFL right now, especially with training camp set to begin by the end of July, but once the fine details are ironed out on that front, the league and the player's association have to negotiate finances. The owners want the salary cap to be cut as soon as possible. The players, of course, would like to see the reduced salary cap spread out for as long as possible. Because the players are taking on safety risks, you'd think they have more leverage in these negotiations, but this likely will take weeks to sort out. The NFL remains on course to play Week 1 as scheduled, just without fans. Despite record-high COVID-19 cases in "hot spots", team doctors believe the players are safe to report to training camp right now.

How is it a blessing? A bad contract comes with dead cap. which means cutting the guy simply won't be wise to free up $2 million by killing $10 million in dead cap. If anything those contracts will be even more protected since you can't have any room for dead weight.

Under current rules only one per team is allowed, and then the dead cap still exists just spread over two seasons instead of in one.

Spreading it over 2 seasons helps but it’s not like the 2022 cap is gonna pop back up above what the 2020 cap was

Still if teams have to drop 70 million in 2021 that's essentially an extra 70 million the follow year if it reverts to 2020.

The NFLPA reports its membership has had 95 positive tests for COVID-19.
That is 3.2 percent of the workforce before hardly anyone has even reported for training camp and mandatory testing. It underscores the widespread nature of the disease, as well as the challenges a contact sport with massive rosters and personnel groups is going to face in containing it.

I said it back in April, this league year isn't happening.
