You plan for free agency months in advance. You don't plan for a potential 1st-round offensive lineman becoming a UDFA because he's connected to a murder trial he may have nothing to do with. I'm sure there's recruiting going on, but paying a UDFA hundreds of thousands of dollars is way different than paying a free agent tens of millions of dollars.
There's a big difference between leaving say $5 million guaranteed on the table to sign somewhere as opposed to say $2,000.
Everyone has a chance to sign La'El Collins. There is no luck involved. Just because Ryan Grigson pissed in your Corn Flakes doesn't mean you need to excrement on him with every chance you get.
