But if he's an UDFA then it won't hurt taking a flyer on him. If he's not cleared then you just cut him at almost no cost.

I don't want to give a potential murderer any kind of opportunity.  I don't think any NFL team will mess with him until he's completely cleared of any connection to this murder.

Is there a maximum a UDFA can make? There may be a bidding war

Signing Collins is going to be a massive headache.  His agent isn't going to settle for UDFA rates.  I'd rather the FO focused their attention elsewhere.

Well, the original story said he was not a suspect. Impossible to know at this point, obviously.

If the guy is cleared of wrong doing and you can sign a top 20 talent in the draft, at a position of relative need, you take that headache and do whatever you can with it.
Need a new one for a new board...

I'd at least maintain contact with him and make assurances that if he's cleared we want to know first.  Obviously he's going to go where he wants, but make it clear he's wanted.

His agent has no choice.  He has to take UDFA rates mandated by the CBA.

Maybe Collins goes to the CFL/AFL for a year and then starts a bidding war the next year?

he'll probably sign a one year deal somewhere with weak OL and hope to earn a starting spot ASAP

Very few UDFA will have a decent NFL career. Its extremely unlikely any will ever be a long term starter. If they land Collins and he's in the clear, you get a 1st round talent. I think its a no brainer to go after him.... which likely means he wont even be on the Jets radar.

Any free safety. A lot of guys still on the board there.

I can't believe Cody Prewitt went undrafted.

I just added onto my last post about him. Can't believe he fell out of the draft. I'd be stunned if he didnt stick. Drummond would fit well, and is certainly take a shot at Gunter.
