We didn't draft Namath, we signed him after the Orange Bowl.

I'd say 1977 off top of mind, maybe some deeper thought will change that, not sure.
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.

The Jets selected him with the 1st overall in the AFL draft, the Cardinals took him 12th overall in the NFL draft. He chose to sign with the Jets (with a record-setting contract). The draft(s) took place in November that year so it was before the end of the college football season. I'm not sure what the NCAA rules were like back then but maybe he had to wait until his season was over to sign a pro deal.

Wow, never knew. I thought we got him because we were New York, acted fast and had the most money. The AFL probably had their draft early to get the jump on NFL teams.

I tried to include every year that someone could make an argument for. Namath's class also included 3-time Pro Bowler Verlon Biggs.

Apparently both drafts were held on the same day, November 28, 1964.

That '64 draft was pretty good too.

I'd put it up there with that list.

Modern Era - 2006 and 2000 are ties.

All time - '77

I realized an argument could be made to include 2007 in the modern era group as well. Revis and Harris: potential HOFer and a cornerstone defensive starter.

2012. Antonio Allen, Quinton Coples and DeMario Davis will all end up with multiple rings as Jets, and their names on the Ring Of Honour.

Very true.

But that 09 draft!

Damn. Seeing those drafts is just depressing. Im not sure how the Jets compare to other teams, but most of those drafts are garbage.
