Bowles New Defense
« on: March 12, 2015, 11:19:29 PM »
Now that we essentially have the entire starting roster for our defense, what should we expect from this new defensive group?

Is our defense going to be similar to 09?

More importantly will Bowles be able to get this defense forcing turnovers?

We don't have any ballhawks, and blitz a ton. So I'm kind of expecting opposing QB's to throw lots of uncatchable balls and have low  completion percentages. But I don't expect turnovers to increase too much.

Then again Bowles is a secondary guy, and we probably have the most talented one in the league, so maybe we get surprised.

I'd argue that this group is more talented than the groups in 09-10.

Of course it's more talented.  We still need a pass rusher, though, and he's going to have to come from the draft.  We don't have cash left to add depth anywhere else let alone a key starter.

Could come from Coples if we're lucky... Maybe Babin too

Fortunately this draft is deep at pass rusher so even if we don't take someone like Fowler in the 1st round there should be options for us later on.

I like Harold.

But admittedly I've seen more of him than the others listed.

Harold is a freak though. Is inconsistent but it's not an effort issue , I think with his natural rush ability if Bowles can isolate him he could do some damage.

At what point would you consider Kikaha given the size we have on the line?  Likely past the point he's actually taken.

I don't think Harold really qualifies as a later prospect, either.  He's the least likely on that list to be available in the 2nd round, and I wouldn't be surprised if another of the four is gone as well.  Especially if Odighizuwa keeps climbing.

His stock depends on if he checked out medically.  He could be one of those guys that mysteriously falls a lot further than we'd expect.

On paper, this is the best Jets' defense in my lifetime. We used to have a great secondary, no pass rush. Then we had a great defensive line and no secondary. Now we have both.

In a class with a lot of near prototype guys, he could fall a ways. I bet he goes to a team as a hustle passrusher in rd 4 or later. Size and athleticism limitations are things that are tough to shake.

Danielle Hunter is my guy in Rd 2 if he's there. I like him more than others seem to, but he's got all the tools to develop into the perfect edge guy. He's a better, more consistent player than a lot of the guys hyped above him.
