It's unfair to give up on Tua after one year, particularly his first year back from a devastating injury as a rookie in the NFL. And while he hasn't been good, he hasn't been a total trainwreck either. He's been better than Darnold for instance.
That said, it's totally fair to evaluate Tua compared to the quarterbacks high in this draft. And if you feel you can get an upgrade in the draft, the franchise can do that. It might not be fair to Tua, but that doesn't really matter.
Tua was a top-5 pick, but he wouldn't be a top-5 pick anymore if he were in the 2021 draft. If they think Fields or Wilson or Lance is a franchise quarterback, they have to look at it. They don't have to do it, but if they love Fields and are a little iffy on Tua, they should probably take Fields and move Tua.
That was basically the plan with Darnold earlier this season in our minds. We believed in Darnold, but Trevor Lawrence would be an upgrade, so we'd have to do it, though Darnold's stock has dropped since then.
