My dad always says he's undefeated at tailgating

Maybe it's not I who doesn't know what he's talking about

The positive to me is that they traded for Fitzpatrick. That tells me that regardless of who else is on the roster, they don't expect them to start this year unless that guy completely blows everyone away in the preseason.

If they draft Mariota, it's a pretty safe bet he'll get an opportunity to sit and learn from the bench for a while.

Forget unless he blows everyone away.  There should be no reason why a rookie QB would start this season.  We've had two straight QBs who won the job in training camp only to have their development killed (if Geno was even a potential long term starter to begin with).  If we take anyone in this draft to play QB, sit his derriere.

so, if Mariota somehow does fall to us, and we take him, I would be fine with it if he sat and learned behind Fitz (a brilliant QB who already knows the verb itch and playbook)

Geno didn't win the job.

I certainly agree. Still, if Mariota came out in camp and preseason and blew the doors off, it'd be hard to say he shouldn't start. You start the guy who gives you the best chance to win. That's my only point.

Also, this thread took an amazing turn.
Teams that draft well do so no matter where they pick. Teams that draft poorly do so no matter where they pick I want my team to win games and draft well

I don't think Bowles/Maccagnan want a rookie QB, at least not right away, unless they feel it is the perfect situation. they don't want to deal with the shitstorm of another young highly touted QB failing here.

so, if Mariota somehow does fall to us, and we take him, I would be fine with it if he sat and learned behind Fitz (a brilliant QB who already knows the verbiage and playbook), I would be able to settle with that. only because I would hope the new guys wont be willing to make the same mistake the old guys made.

everything said, I really don't want Mariota.
