Mr. @Jeff_McLane on 97.5, talking Mariota: "Unless I'm missing something here, the Eagles are going to do whatever it takes to get him."

Rotoworld mentions the Eagles leapfrogging the Jets, not trading with them at 6.

that makes sense.  if the Eagles love mariota and want to trade for him, why would they wait for him to fall to a team that has a need for QB.

More importantly why would they up to 6 with the giants falcons and bears all picking immediately after us.

Last time I checked QB isn't a need for any of those teams.

And the Rams have  more picks  to trade up with . The only real bargain chip the Eagles have is Foles. So for them to somehow trade ahead of the Rams for Mariota, the team would need to want Foles

At least with us, we can show a pretty clear interest in Foles.

And for a rebuilding team a guy like Foles, plus some extra picks to build with makes sense.

The only reason I can think of is the cost difference between moving up to 5 vs. 6.  Or maybe throwing in Foles lowers the cost to them even more.
The 6 spot is the latest spot that they know they are guaranteed Mariota (assuming Tenn. doesn't get him)  If they wait beyond 6, it's gambling on whether the Jets take him or not.

I would think it's about Foles.

Any other team could trade up easier than the Eagles could. So they need to find a team that wants Foles, and hope he can help put that deal over the top.

He might not be worth a 1st rounder, but the guys got good value. He's better than most QB options out there

True
Of course they just as easily could trade Foles before the draft, then use that to trade up. But I guess they lose leverage that way, barring them having faith in Sanchez
