If Idzik doesn't consider QB to be the single most important need in the draft, including trading up to get one if necessary, then he's a freaking idiot.

Trading up would cost a lot, and IMO there is enough QB depth to wait for our pick.

Who is going to trade down for a QB ?

The first 4  projected teams to pick in the draft are all desperate for QB.

And hell what if we have to trade up from 18-10

Are people really going to be happy if we give up a 1st 2nd and 3rd to draft another qb ? And have no WRs or TEs for him to throw to ?

The draft can play out a ton of ways, and its possible that a prospect we really like falls into our lap. But its also VERY possible that we are in a poor position to get a QB we like, and have to go another direction.

This front office isn't going to pay a QB marquee money.

Let's see who finishes in the top positions before we start judging who will do what and with who, shall we? My point is that QB is the single most important position for us to fill. We have to draft an elite QB and I don't care how we do it. You can't make up for having a bad QB in today's NFL.

Well id say its close to certain that Jacksonville Tampa Minnesota and Houston have top 10 picks

And unless we dont win another game we wont.

Washington, Atlanta, San Diego and Oakland all stand very decent chances of finishing in the top ten as well, and none of them are going to be drafting QBs next year.

No one on the Raiders' roster is safe. I can easily see them going for an upgrade of Tyrelle Pryor and the Matt McGloin experience.

Here are the current league standings:

NY Jets - Whatever is left over
Dallas - Romo heir is an outside possibility
Green Bay    - Nope
Oakland - See above
Tennessee    - A possibility
Cleveland   - Yup
Baltimore   - Nope
NY Giants   - I can see a case for drafting someone to sit behind Eli but it's doubtful it'll be a first rounder
Pittsburgh   - Rumored to be demanding a trade but I think it's more likely that Haley gets his walking papers
St. Louis - Sam Bradford might be in for some competition but likely not from a first rounder
San Diego   - Probably not going to draft anyone
Buffalo - Probably going to stay
Washington - They gave up too much to bail on RG3
Atlanta - Ryan isn't in danger
Houston - Ditto Matt Schaub
Tampa Bay - Glennon is the favorite of a HC who won't be there next season
Minnesota   - Absolutely
Jacksonville - Definitely

So what you're saying is, even if the Jets manage to maintain their unreasonably high standing there are going to be loads of teams who would be potential trade partners for a high pick? Awesome. My previous points stand, then.

Every single year it seems like we are the best team in the NFL without a qb.  Big testament to Rex

Yeah ! Lets trade up in the draft, thats worked so well for us building a deep roster without holes all over it.

Maybe we can address the rest of our needs by high profile free agency signings and trades ?

Without a QB who can run an offense, it doesn't really matter what else you do.

Might be, might not be. Four out of the current top five are in desperate need for improved QB play so the Jets are going to have to give up a lot to get a shot at Bridgewater, Manziel or Carr.

What about a rookie QB without a WR/TE/HB ?

What can he do ?

We would have a QB with far worse weapons than Sanchez and the 2009 Jets did.

At least then we had an elite OL + Running Game

Now that we'll have plenty of cap space we can actually test free agency instead of piecemealing a roster together due to bloated contracts. When you have no money, you sign Kellen Winslow and Clyde Gates.

And if we trade all of our draft picks for the 4th or 5th QB in the draft, wed have to spend all of it on overpriced free agents.
