Yeah, that sucks.  I was only a moderate fan, because to me he did his relevant work over 20 years ago.  Badmotorfinger was a great album.  Outshined is right there with Teen Spirit and Evenflow in the grunge pantheon.

I saw Soundgarden a couple of times, and it was always Chris Cornell and his backing band. Audioslave were a better band than Soundgarden, with superior songs. Fight me.

I was too young to get that into Soundgarden until after the fact. They were very good, but I loved Audioslave in high school. Their self-titled debut album was awesome. I'll take most of that album over most of Soundgarden.

I was never the hugest Soundgarden fan but this is certainly sad. His vocals on Say Hello to Heaven (TotD) are chilling.

There's a doc called Hype! from a few years back chronicling the early Seattle/grunge scene and they show a Soundgarden concert and, I wish I could remember the name of the song, they sounded even better live than on the records. He did have some voice, rip.

I think this is wrong, only because it depends on the context. It's not that Morello is a "great" guitarist. I wouldn't put him on a Mount Rushmore. What I think is great about Morello is the crazy excrement he does with a guitar. The solo in Be Yourself is one of my favorite riffs ever. It's not the opening to Welcome to the Jungle, but it's just fun to listen to.
