Same. Can't call him great because of his limitations. I would have loved to have kept him if we could have gotten competent people around him.

Agreed. Unfortunately that didn't seem possible, and it sucks that he contributed to that inability. He just didn't carry the kind of credibility that would allow him to cycle through GMs and OCs endlessly with no consequence, because it's not like he was succeeding in spite of the incompetence around him.

FTR, and I have no idea which thread I posted it in at this point, I made the same point about Rex. He was a very good head coach who couldn't accept/recognize his glaring flaws--most notably his unwavering belief in his people (both players and coaches) despite their clear failures right in front of his face.

There are about forty seven threads discussing dearly departed / root of all evil Rex Ryan on the Jets board, please don't clutter up this one with the same conversation.

Bucs search for an OC (Marty is on their interview request list)

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/bucs-search-for-oc-will-start-with-staffs-of-fired-head-coaches/2211977

I can only assume Marcus Mariota will have a bad time if he lands with Lovie Smith and Marty Mornhinweg.

At least he'll have Mike Evans.

The only thing that would make me happier than Marty going to the Bucs is if he takes Geno with him.

What are the chances they would give up a 5th for Geno If marty goes there?

I would give him to them for nothing!

The only thing that would then worry me is that it takes a QB-needy team on the board in front of us off the board, and I'm not keen on drafting one of the 1st rounders this year.

I'd imagine the Bucs would still take a QBS if they traded a low pick for a QB.

I don't know. Marty seemed pretty into Geno. If he honestly believes Geno is improving and will continue to do so, there'd be no reason to draft another in round 1. That pick becomes a lot more valuable in trade or to take a different position of need.

No way they could roll with Geno alone in Tampa bay. You bring him in and let him compete with somebody
