90s/early 2000s was the last era that had consistently good movie/film production. after the mid-late 2000s it got dominated by the superhero genre. the pirating of movies undoubtedly did not help with making film companies feel like they should dump loads of money into making quality movies.

don't get me wrong, i enjoy some of the superhero films that come out, but it's much harder nowadays to find a good movie imo.

I don't agree at all. I think that the big budget movies from the megastudios are of a poorer standard, but there's loads of great stuff still made outside of that and the ubiquity of inexpensive technology for filming and editing means that movie making is more accessible.

i take your point and can totally see this being the actual state of cinema currently. i don't have a problem admitting that the crux of my post is probably dominated by nostalgia
