I'm still going to see Only God Forgives.

I didn't think it was that bad.  Refn just tries way to hard...

Watched Furious 6 last night. Atrocious film. Still, awesome cars and banging women, so not without some merits.

Do the right thing was a good movie, but, he latches onto stereotyping way too hard. Just like He Got Game. Liked them both but, wow.

On a side note: I vaguely remember watching movies. Good times...

Started Only God Forgives to kill time before the game. This is not an easy film to watch for multiple reasons.

Watched Lone Survivor tonight.  Starts off with a great score from Explosions in the Sky and a montage featuring the Navy Seals and showing how brutal it is to become one.  Brief little intro to the characters and then...military torture porn.  For about an hour and a half.  Just glorification of gore and zero characterization.  And then another montage.  freaking shameless.

Is Lone Survivor the movie he made Battleship in exchange for?

Glad you liked it.

They really could have told a story, Lone Survivor was a great book. I suppose it's a shame, the leader of the mission won the CMH. Patchogue NY has a bunch of things dedicated to him.
Wonderful they went an easy route.

Was it like Black Hawk Down? BHD was pretty truthful to the facts and I quite enjoyed it.

Oh god no.  Blackhawk Down was a great movie.  Berg just focused on the wrong aspects of the story.  He made it too much about LOOK HOW THEY SUFFERED, like it was Passion of the Christ.

SPOILER:  For example, the whole part about him being taken care of by random villagers.  Takes about 15 minutes.  All you see is a bunch of guys who seem willing to get slaughtered to protect this random American.  Zero explanation until AFTER the end montage, then you get some little blurb saying "Hey guys, we forgot to mention, but here's why that happened!"

Oh good lord, I will not see it then, thank you. At least Bruckheimer, like him or not and Ridley Scott made it their mission to be true to the story and honor the soldiers. I have tons of respect for that. Like I said it's a shame because this movie could have been and should have been a 2013 version of BHD. I guess I will see the Hobbit or something.

Yeah the villager thing was an important part of the book, why show that when you can blow things up, I suppose. Unreal, the guy that saved Lutrell was as big a hero as anyone. lol

They very well may have stayed true to the story, but the presentation was just shock and awe, and not very effective at that.  It was just poorly made.  As for the villager, he's definitely shown.  It should have been the focus of the movie, IMO.  Instead, he and his kid never give any hint of why they're helping him.  You just find out about Pashdvahawhatever after the movie's over.  It just seems like random acts of kindness at a very deadly cost prior to that.  "You're all going to be slaughtered for this!"  "Cool!  Save the American because...uh...just save the American!"

FTR, reviews so far have been good.  I may be wrong.  I dug it for about 30 - 45 minutes, but by 75 minutes I was done.
