The primary field for mayor is going to be so crowded. Thankfully we get to use ranked choice voting this time.

Who’s your horse?

Also explain the concept behind ranked choice for the noobs and people that live in states that don’t have it

It's weird because this is the first race in a while that I didn't know immediately off the bat who my favorite was. But ranked choice voting helps because I don't have to just narrow it down to one, can list my top 5 options in the primary.

Right now I have Dianne Morales, Maya Wiley, and Carlos Menchaca on my watch list.

Scott Stringer strikes me as just a potentially more competent DeBlasio.

Eric Adams is meh. Seems like the party machine might want him which is a turn off for me.

Shaun Donovan I need to learn more about/hear more from.

Everyone else who has actually declared is either also meh or not a serious candidate. Not even bothering with learning the R field yet.

Ballotpedia on RCV:

A ranked-choice voting system (RCV) is an electoral system in which voters rank candidates by preference on their ballots. If a candidate wins a majority of first-preference votes, he or she is declared the winner. If no candidate wins a majority of first-preference votes, the candidate with the fewest first-preference votes is eliminated. First-preference votes cast for the failed candidate are eliminated, lifting the second-preference choices indicated on those ballots. A new tally is conducted to determine whether any candidate has won a majority of the adjusted votes. The process is repeated until a candidate wins an outright majority.

Is the true, vicious legacy of covid going to be that the ability to switch to remote learning will mean that no future generation will ever know the joy that we did of a snow day?

Possibly, but if there's any return to "normalcy" then they won't be able to make a decision like that the day before.

In less than a month my son has gone from alternating days in-person and remote, to full remote, to full in-person, and full remote again.

In a non-pandemic year I doubt we'll have the flexibility to pull that off.

I think this is going to be something that changes everything. Other than catastrophic natural disasters, kids are going to be able to go to school every day...and therefore, parents will be able to work as well.

In exchange for the 3-2-2, it's worth it. But if we go back to the 5-day week, freak everything.

Holy excrement just give the kids a snow day.

Also this.

But shocker, Bill de Blasio is an poopchute. In other news, snow is cold rain.
