With Boston and Colorado out, it's really wide open, and Devils have as good a chance as anyone.

This is true.

Everyone is still sleeping on Florida though, Toronto included. They're a year off a Presidents Cup with an arguably better roster and just knocked off the widely recognized best team in hockey.

Canes own the Devils in the playoffs. Would be sweet to get some revenge for 06 and 09.

Well, that was brutal.

It's been a very fun and exciting ride considering the wilderness the franchise was in over the last decade.

But...people forget the absolute set of brass balls Lou had in acquiring talent and dealing beloved players away, players that won cups here (Randy McKay, Arnott, Sykora, Guerin, etc etc etc), in order to reinvent the team to continue to win. Does Fitz have that kind of foresight and gumption?

Basically thats my long winded way of asking if Fitz has the balls to deal say a Bratt in a hockey trade, or do the easy thing and overpay him the 8x8.5 that he wants.

Great job by Fitz getting a third for someone who was going to walk away because CBus had to commit to the 8th year to bring in Severson.

I'm not the Severson hater some others are in the fanbase. He has his good points, he has holes in his game. Honestly, considering the season the Blue Jackets had, an AAV of 6.1 for him isn't crazy. But that term is freaking ridiculously horrible. No question he's either getting packaged with a pick and dumped on a bottom feeder floor team by year 6, or bought out.
