That 2005 Charger game will always be special to me; we were taken through the whole gamut of emotions and even when we thought the game was iced at he gun Eric Barton did the unthinkable- ( Gastineau -esk) and hit Brees on the helmet. What a great game and what a great win - Pennington was masterful.

One of his finest moments, and he played the game badly in need of surgery on his throwing shoulder. I think John Abraham sat out with a mild cold.
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.

That Oakland game in 2003. I remember being at a bar with some degenerate friends from back in the day. Some Oakland fan chick kept cheering nonstop, after every Jet interception or Oakland score. We kept telling her to shut the freak up but she kept going. One of my friends at the time (who's now in prison not surprisingly) goes up to her boyfriend and tells him if she doesn't stop he'll kick the excrement out of him. He stood his ground. Wrong move. Dude got his derriere kicked, and it turned into a shitshow. Cops came and everything. It was pretty cool.
"Wrong!"

Doug Brien; Never trust a man with two first names. That Pittsburgh loss was hard to stomach, another episode of incompetence that scars the New York Football Jets.

Sadly, I fear this thread is fast approaching it's end.
Can I offer a word of sincere thanks to Italian Seafood for all the research and great photographs that have accompanied this time line. Brought back a lot of happy memories and a lot of anguish too.

Time will tell if IS and me were right about ejecting Rex; somewhere down the line when revisiting this thread I hope not to see a picture of a hapless Todd Bowles looking on in despair.........

Haha, thanks. There are six games left to recap, the Rex haters might want to look away the next couple of days. But if this thread teaches us anything it's that Jet fans are about regrouping and surviving, which we now have to do again.

As for the thread, this was the first season without my dad after 40 with him, so it gave me the idea to go back and relive a lot of the games we watched together and ones he told me about. History has a way of standing objectively by itself and of course Super Bowl III is part of it, our moment that nobody can ever take away.
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.

I agree. A great thread indeed, and sorry for your loss, IS.

The reason why I always loved Lance Mehl. That LA game is the first game I can actually remember in my life.

I still think think Herm "you play to win the game (except in Pittsburgh)" Edwards deserves the blame for that, not Brien. He obviously missed the kicks, but Edwards hung him out to dry, especially the 2nd attempt. You can't be setting up 40 yard plus field goals in the middle of January at Heinz Field. He had Pennington actually kneel back a few yards right before the kick. What are you thinking??
