Chad was no sure thing but he ended that competition early, the Jets had also brought in Patrick Ramsey as another option and Brooks Bollinger had finished the 2005 season.

In Sanchez's case it was a chance to go down the field, win a game and seal the job. It was bad luck that he got hurt, but injuries were never really an issue with him before. With Pennington you held your breath every time he dropped back to pass after a while.

Also helped that Geno > Clemens

Yes. Clemens got another chance midway through 2007 with a year and a half under his belt and didn't show he was a starting caliber QB. Geno jumped right in and has played better.

Haha, nothing worse than being in Vegas after you're broke. All that good excrement to see and do and you just have to ride it out.

When people come to visit I always tell them to budget their money.  It can be tough for some people, but you avoid just this situation.

Another tip is the buy your booze at the store and keep it in your room.  If things aren't going well you can just BYOB down to the casino floor.

I learned (the hard way) to at least leave the money I need to get out of Newark's parking lot in the glove compartment.

Yeah, that was my first time in Vegas though. I didn't have much to begin with, but won $1,300 in Roulette my first night. Felt like a baller. Bought my two coworkers dinner, then blew the rest chasing the high and paying for an escort. She was at least an 8 and cost me $800. I then dipped into my own money trying to regain the baller status. Ended up borrowing $100 from a coworker, but blew that too. By the Jets game I was dead broke with a whole day to go.

All in all, awesome time.

Was this the year we had a really good shot, but lost to Cleveland for roughing Bernie Kosar?

Yes. Started 10-1, lost the last 5 with a bunch of injuries to finish 10-6. Won the Wild Card game at home vs KC, then blew the 20-10 lead at Cleveland the following week in the divisional round.

So the Vinny injury was 15 years ago today. That sucked. I remember that game like it was yesterday. 11-year old me chanting "TU-PA, TU-PA" in the stands as he played well. Then Rick Mirer came in during the 4th when he was allowed to, and he was awful. Then they lost and found out Vinny was done for the year. That sucked. Would have sucked more if I were old enough to understand more of the consequences of the injury and put it into more historical perspective.

You were also at the game where Chad and Fiedler both got injured.

Were you also at Wayne Chrebet's last game?
