The Bills are in something of a mess with the cap now as well, this was their YOLO shot to win a Super Bowl. Now they have some really tough personnel decisions to make: they're $43M over the cap for next season, their defense gets paid a ton of money and is starting to get old, and they have a couple of players making a ton of money that they can't move on from.
- Stefon Diggs is underperforming and an poopchute in the locker room, makes $28M next year, costs $31M in dead money if he's cut or traded
- Von Miller is completely washed, makes $24M next year, costs $32.5M if he's cut or traded
Tre White and Matt Milano are both 30 next season, both coming off serious injuries, and cost $28M between them - perfectly good value if they come back healthy and able to play to their previous standards, but expensive millstones if they don't. White is particularly concerning if I'm a Bills fan, in the last three seasons he's torn his ACL and then his achilles - the odds of him ever getting back to his previous standards would seem pretty low.
It even costs them $7.5M to cut Tyler Bass. which is $3M more than keeping him. They're really in a tough spot.
