I don't care if Patterson cost $1M or 10. He's been wasted money so far, and there's no reason to believe he'll be ready when the games actually count. I read at least a couple of times every week that he's in the trainers area during practice. This is the guy who is supposed to be the best active corner on the roster right now. Instead we have Walls, a project, and Kyle Wilson.
Patterson is a waste because he occupies a critical position in Rex's defensive scheme, and signing him likely allowed Idzik to feel justified not making any other movement there apart from drafting a kid who wound up out for the year.
Foreseeing McDougle's injury was impossible, granted, but corner was a position of need as it was. I wasn't advocating overpaying at the position, but with all the money Idzik has left, he could have done more. (I hate sounding like I'm buying into media-generated BS.)
