How did Ryan Mallett suddenly become Joe Montana?
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:52:26 AM »
Apparently Mike Mycock is jizzing all over himself about Ryan Mallett.  Last year he was an immobile, retard with a cannon arm.  Now he's the future of the position.  What gives?

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000373945/article/mayock-pats-ryan-mallett-is-a-legitimate-starting-qb

Quote
"I was blown away today. I saw a legitimate NFL starting quarterback today backing up Tom Brady," Mayock said after Monday's scrimmage versus the Redskins. "So as the season progresses and we get closer to draft time and what the Patriots can or can't do with him, I think they drafted Jimmy Garoppolo for a reason, as an insurance policy. But trust me, Ryan Mallett's a starting quarterback in this league, and he popped today."

Quote
Although Mayock witnessed just one practice against a second-team defense, the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe confirmed that Mallett is having his best training camp this summer.

Good

I hope he's having the best camp of his career

He's a free agent after this season.

Pats can have fun either giving him a monster contract, replacing Brady with him, or dropping a 20 million dollar franchise tag on em

I doubt they could tag and trade him, considering they couldn't trade him last year under contract for only 700k or so

So barring him actually becoming the next Joe Montana,  I can't see this being a terrible thing

It would probably be worse for us, if he was only doing ok, then they gave him a 4 year 16-20 million dollar contract

Or they let him walk and he never amounts to anything notable.

Then they need to address QB again, and lose  a young healthy backup who has 4 years with their team.

If anything it sounds like our worst case scenario is them getting a 3rd or 4th round Compensatory pick for em

Too late for a team to trade for a starting QB

Maybe if someone goes down  they could get a 4th or 5th at this point

Learning an offense in 3 weeks, and starting as a QB?

I feel like it's a recipe for failure, and you usually don't see it happen

Chemistry and stuff would be a mess

Ryan Mallett should be somewhat familiar with Bill O'Brien's offense.  He played for the guy in 2011.

I'm not saying he would come in and start immediately, but Houston could definitely swing a trade for him if Fitzpatrick blows derriere in the preseason.

Yeah but the Pats wouldn't want to give up their backup for nothing, and the Texans wouldn't want to overpay for a guy whose contract is ending that wouldn't have time to learn their offense

It's a. Poornmatch

In this absurd universe where the Patriots could give him "a monster contract", why wouldn't another team pay up?

Or maybe he's not that great.
