I'd rather have Trubisky than Jones. I don't love Trubisky but I think he's boringly competent, which is a step up from Danny Fumbles.

Honestly there aren't too many options and this isn't the year to move on so might as well try to see what the new coaching staff can get out of him and put him up against someone with starting experience.

It's plausible that the Giants could have gotten a better return on investment if they used the cap space allocated for Barkley since 2018 on other positions. That's the crux of the argument, not that they literally should have not taken a player 2nd overall in 2018.

They're not necessarily wrong.

Of course they're wrong. "Strictly speaking, even forfeiting the selection would have been a better alternative" just demonstrates how absolutely ludicrous their statistical analysis is. There is no sensible football world in which forfeiting the #2 pick is a better idea than drafting a highly talented player regardless of position, and the only way this statement makes sense is if it was followed by "thus demonstrating the absolute idiocy of our model, and we will henceforth be abandoning it in favour of sitting in front of a TV on Sundays with a bowl of wings and a six pack rather than a calculator".

Then they should make that argument.

They said, and I quote once more for you, "Strictly speaking, even forfeiting the selection would have been a better alternative". That is an entirely different argument to "they could/should have selected a player who represented better value". Putting aside the fact that were it not for his injuries Barkley would almost certainly have been a significant net positive over the course of his contract and they wouldn't have been bleating about how clever their model is because people would have laughed at them, and also ignoring the fact that had they gone with the "value" pick it would probably have been Sam Darnold, I'd be keen to hear how they (and you) would justify how taking nobody would have been better than taking Barkley.

This argument isn’t position specific though, it’s player specific. If Saquon never got hurt and continued playing like he did as a rookie this argument looks dumb as hell

Conversely you could say the Raiders would have been much better off forfeiting the #1 pick the year they took JaMarcus Russel, because he was trash. He’s a qb of course but his value added was absolutely negative. If they hadn’t picked at all they would have been infinitely better off. Same is true for us with Gholston. But if we had ended up with Chris Long instead we would have been just fine.

In summary their argument is idiotic as it pertains to it being about positions. It’s really a testament to “not freaking up the pick” when you are drafting that high. Pick the wrong guy and you are fucked, pick the right guy and nobody cares about position
Need a new one for a new board...

The Giants have the most expensive WR group in the league for 2022, and those receivers combined for the fewest tds in the league last year. The least by a group since 2017

Kadarius Toney is a no show at voluntary pre-draft minicamp. Way to impress the new boss.
