Eli Manning is retiring.

Wow. Probably for the best. Because of my distaste for Giants fans I'd like to have seen him in one of the ugliest uniforms in the league, like Jacksonville, wearing #17 or something. But he seems like a good guy and he probably should retire.
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.

I mean that tends to happen when the first black president gets elected and a large segment of the country gets upset

i know, they were so upset they re-elected him.

Good for him. I imagine the debate will be contentious, but to me Eli is definitely a Hall of Fame quarterback.

Didn't Simms get in? If he's in Eli will get in, Eli was way better for longer.

He's going in.  If it was based strictly on his play there might be a debate, but HoF voters will be jerking each other off about how humble and modest he was despite the last name.

Is he first ballot, is the question.  Julius Peppers better be or else they can burn the whole thing down.  Gronk is probably first ballot, too.  I don't know what Frank Gore's plans are but I'd like to see him get in on his first try.

edit: nm, Eli's not in that class.

If Eli goes in its on the back of his 2 SB runs and nothing to do with the rest of his career
My dad always says he's undefeated at tailgating

Maybe it's not I who doesn't know what he's talking about

Top ten all-time passing yards and TD's.  Almost all those guys are in the hall or will be.  210 regular season starts in a row.  And this was during the regular season as well:

That picture gets my vote.  Ditto his brother.

Meme quality is HoF worthy.

I think he’ll get in, but he strikes me as a compiler. I don’t think of him having played at a HoF level other than on those SB runs.

I guess Philip Rivers will get in too then. He has better numbers than Eli.

Rivers was better but was stuck with a consistently mediocre franchise.

Rivers 2006 Chargers team was better than that second Giants super bowl team.

There was a point in time where gun to my head needing a drive in the 4th quarter I'd have gone with Eli over anybody in football with the exception of that scumbag in New England

Eli gets in because of his SuperBowl wins over the Pats. Similar to Namath for us with his SuperBowl guarantee in SBIII. There is some value to “can you write the history of the league without ____ player in it” and in this case Eli is a major bullet point.

He’ll get in and I’m OK with it but at face value I don’t think he belongs.
