"The AP does some weird PR for the Jets by claiming the change is because paper tickets can get lost or destroyed. The real reason is the same one that has inspired other teams like Denver and KC to make the move to smart cards: now season-ticket holders will need to use the team's official online ticket exchange if they want to sell their seats."

interestingly ESPNS article points out that this could "improve our homefield advantage"

And then points out that our homefield advantage hasn't been that good

Quote
And, of course, they won't mind if it enhances their home-field advantage. Under Rex Ryan, the Jets have been only an average home team, compiling a 24-16 record since 2009 -- tied for 14th in the NFL. That includes a 6-2 mark last season.

However when you look at the fact the Jets are 18-22 on the road, I think that's a pretty significant home advantage

Far from Seattle, but still

I would describe our homefield advantage as sometimes pretty good if the fans show up and give a excrement.

My dad's been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and I don't think he's ever lost or damaged a ticket.

It probably happens to less than 1% of tickets. Like the article says it's entirely done as a way to force resale through the stadium service further making more money for the franchise.

Goodbye ticket scalpers...

It's nice because as JE pointed out to me, it's a great way to protect the odd season ticket holder who just wants to sell tickets for a game or two.  He has a record of who exactly was in those seats should a problem arise.  Scalpers will get screwed.  No more buying up season tickets under multiple names and then selling them from a branded site.

Give the scalpers time, they will figure out a way around this, guaranteed.

Fast forward 1 year:  Retinal scans at the gate to confirm season ticket holder identification.

Does this end stub hub for Jets tickets?

I don't think so. People who buy individual game tickets will probably still get paper ones, and those could be resold. But it certainly won't be as easy as before.

One of the comments says

Sadly, unlike the Jets new tickets, the offensive line is still made of paper
