If the guy is healthy, it will solidify the backup QB position.
-
He is a excrement ton better than Simms, so yeah if he is healthy why the hell not. Can you trust his health?

I think hell hold that clipboard just fine
I just wish he was around earlier in the season to mentor Geno
He can still do that at this point, but I imagine his impact being drastically less considering its already 6 week
-
He isn't going to take Geno's job, but if this team can manage to stay in the playoff hunt and Geno goes down late in the season, I'd feel a lot better with Garrard in there than Simms or Quinn.
-

Rookie QB training ends in week 6?
-
Garrard at least has some experience to impart on Geno. Then again I think he may have started the same number of games as Sanchez.

76 to Sanchez's 62.
-

No but Geno is going to be focusing much more on game planning, than relationship building at this point.
Not to mention at this point im sure hes got a routine and other people that he trusts/goes to (Sanchez?)
I think Geno will definitely have an impact on him, just not nearly the same as if Garrard were on the roster when Geno was drafted
-
Indifferent to it. Like him as a backup if the price is right I guess.
-
JE is going to go freaking ballistic, haha.
I hope he never plays a down for this team, but like the fact he'll be around. He was a smart QB.
-

Besides Landry, Garrard, and the team's 2013 win total he was right about everything!

He also excrement on the Sheldon Richardson pick more than ANYONE ever in all of everness

he's a china doll.
If Smith gets hurt, Garrard wont last two games, unless you plan on handing off 50 times.
Garrard should have been hired as an asst coach to work with Smith, not as a player.

Who let you in our playground? <kicks sand in his face>
BTW- WE do allow for bigger avatars here.
Edit: I did put a qualifier in my post, and no you can't trust Garrard's health. The fact remains he is still more eminently qualified than any other QB on the roster to backup Geno.
-
Coming out of retirement is putting it optimistically. Still don't see him playing an actual down in a real game in any circumstances.
-
The Jets have to either sign Garrard or release him by 4 pm today. I'd rather have him than Quinn unless his knee is really shot.

Chris Mortensen @mortreport 9m
Jets have released Brady Quinn and activated David Garrard to 53-man roster
-
The obligatory Superbowl post. Question is, will he work his way to being the backup QB, or will Simms hold on to the spot?
-
Good, I hope the Jets do not need him but I have confidence in Garrard then I would in Quinn.

I guess it'll depend on how he looks in practice and whether we are in the playoff hunt if Geno goes down. If he's OK and we are in the hunt I'd go with Garrard. If his knee isn't good enough or we're out of it, go with Simms.
-
I hope Garrard never sees the field. Period. Keep that clipboard warm and mentor Smith likes he's your own child. That's it.
-
black quarterbacks, we gotta gotta stick together man.
-

I don't think we'd be all that screwed if Garrard had to take the field, provided he has plenty of time to learn the playbook of course.
-
Garrard has had time with the playbook, he was with the team for a few weeks in the offseason, so he isn't starting cold.
-
If we are fortunate to be still in the playoff hunt late in the year and Geno happens to go down, I'd much rather have a seasoned QB who has been to the playoffs and has always protected the ball well than a QB who has never taken a snap in the NFL. Granted, it's a risk in an older guy with an injury history, but I'd take my chances with that risk over the other one.
-
Again, I hope Garrard never sees the field. Period.

The classy Giants would never have two black QBs

Kurt Warner

No. I don't think they've ever had a black QB on their active roster.
-
Kurt Warner
I think he was a running back and spelled with a "C"... Or are you talking about the "K" version as in black like Eric Smith would be white?
-
"In 2007, the Giants became the final franchise to have a black quarterback throw a pass, when Anthony Wright had six attempts for the Giants in week two."

It was a joke.

As was my post too. Guess it wasn't that funny...
-
The Rams signed Quinn.

A preseason game. Then he got injured and went on IR. I don't think they've ever had a QB on the 53-man regular season/playoff roster
-
Are you sure? I assumed they meant week 2 of the regular season.
-
As was my post too. Guess it wasn't that funny...
Don't worry Eric Smith was white.

You can kind of see why Garrard is a good pairing with Geno. Let's just hope Geno doesn't start wiping boogers on him later in the year.

Yes, for a game or two. Though, as long as Smith continues to progress, going into next season, we need to have #6 and #7 on the roster. Though 6 will need to be renegotiated..
If we get anywhere near I said we should, we are SB contenders next year.
And (like Buffalo) you cant rely on some castoff as a backup If you get a knee sprain, or pulled hamstring.

Wait. Why exactly do we "need" Sanchez next year?

Why would Sanchez stay here next season? He could easily compete to be a starter elsewhere and the team would save a lot of money on the cap by cutting him. Win win for both parties involved.
-
Resign Sanchez? Lol.
freak off, Hobbes.

And we should be drafting QB competition in a QB heavy draft, not trying to overpay for a reclamation project we helped destroy.

edited for truth.

Pretty much this, even if Geno doesn't excrement the bed the second half of the season it'd be hard not to get pick one up in the draft unless Simms shows he's worth being the backup. And bring back Garrard for another season as a veteran/mentor type role.
-
Hobbes, you would be such a shitty GM, Matt Millen would fall over laughing at you.
-

This x1000. Even if we get the fifth QB selected in next year's draft it'll still be better than whoever is currently on the roster or IR.

At this point, just take the best player available in the first round that isn't a corner or d-lineman.

Two reasons.
One, if we are even a contender this year, you cant risk losing a season on an injury with a proven player under contract.
Two...because Smith right now...isn't as good. I'll give you a baseball analogy..je's like the Mets Bobby Parnell. Sure, he can throw it 100 mph...but he cant get guys out.
-

Except the Jets don't have a proven player under contract. They have a broken veteran they helped destroy that will be coming off a major shoulder injury with a bloated contract whose faults you keep passing off exclusively to the Offensive Coordinator and a rookie who keeps hitting open corner backs.
Smith will still be on the roster but he will hopefully have some competition. Sanchez and the Jets should part ways. It's the best situation for the both of them.
-

No. No, I really can't throw it anything like that fast. I might get them out by confusing them with my 45mph fastball, but I wouldn't recommend trying it.
-

unless its Clowney, and then make him an OLB and everything will be just fine.

But even if Smith crashed and burns, why wouldn't the team just draft a new QB next season? Why bring back Sanchez when we could draft someone younger and with a higher ceiling?

freak Sanchez cut that piece of crap. Holy excrement how freaking insane do you have to be to think he is the answer to anything Jets related other than a question like, Who is the biggest piece of excrement on the Jets roster.
