I'm thinking Sept 2nd or 3rd at 8pm EST. Does this not work for anyone?

The 3rd might be a problem at that time, 2nd is solid.

Post by: Andrew Ryan on August 27, 2023, 09:45:01 PM
As things stand now, nothing has changed from last year. This is still a full-PPR superflex league with a snake draft.

I realize that time is short but I'm prepared to make changes if there's enough support for them.

MB suggested bring back keepers and raising dues to keep things more competitive and reuben suggested switching to an auction draft and reducing roster sizes by a spot or two.

I loved keepers because they gave each team a bit of identity and they created incentive for teams that had fallen out of the race.

Keepers are fine...what wasn't fine was having 3 of them.

Didn't you threaten to quit the league if we didn't abolish keepers immediately?

Yes....but notice how i said "what WASN'T fine was having 3 of them".....them being keepers.

keeping 1 player is a reasonable compromise.

I would be down for adding keepers. In my home league we have a year limit on years kept which works pretty well.

Would also increase buy-in.

I'm in favor of adding a keeper. How long can a player be kept for and does he get kept in the round he was drafted in (stepping up annually like before)?

I'm good with whatever is decided.

here's my suggestion:  keeper duration (4 years), and round that he was drafted escalates +1 after every season kept.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL 2023 Friars thread
Post by: Heismanberg on September 01, 2023, 10:12:14 AM
What if we did like a quasi dynasty keeper situation where you can only keep a player if you draft/claim them as a rookie, but can only keep them for 4 seasons (similar to how their contracts work)?

Round escalates each season.

I would assume this would be optional...what if you don't end up drafting any rookies?  Or are you making "drafting a rookie" mandatory

It shouldn't be mandatory.  It can definitely be optional, but I don't want to overcomplicate things.

I'm fine with whatever. Seems like every time we do keepers, it ends up complicated and some people threaten to quit, so I think no keepers is easier. But I'll adjust either way.

It's not about that.  I've got a championship ring from the keeper years. Drafting was fine.

It just became boring and stale.  It would've been fine if it were a single keeper and not 3.

Okay with making draft 9.

This is now a SF snake draft where you can keep 1 rookie for up to 4 years? So next year there will be 2 players you can keep?

Always fun doing superflex drafts with some people who don't necessarily treat it like a superflex. Kind of regret taking Fields in round 2 considering how far Richardson fell.

Yeah, but Mahomes, Hurts and Allen all should really go top 5 I think. And some of the 2nd-tier QBs fell further than I thought. Granted, it is a 10-team league, and I'm used to 12.

QB is the most valuable position in superflex because the demand is essentially doubled while the supply remains the same. If you don't secure your QBs early, you're running the risk of putting yourself behind the eight ball.

Puka Nacua can be kept for a final round pick next year. I'll trade him for the right price.

You've got to be trolling. He's fifth at his position as a rookie.

Pierce hasn't been on an active roster in eight years yet you refuse to let the joke die.

Heismanberg stands alone at 9-2 and then there's a 5-way tie at 6-5.

You were 4th in points despite losing Richardson, Chubb, and Mike Williams by week 5. Missing the playoffs was a tough break.

Man it would have been fun to have this team with the old keeper rules. Can't think of a better core than Hall, Nacua, and LaPorta.
