High of 78 here today. Sweater weather.
It was 78 here no humidity, beautiful.. Just because you set your thermostat to 78 doesn't mean its 78 in your city.
. Just because you set your thermostat to 78 doesn't mean its 78 in your city.
Nope, I have a double ac unit in my house, it's set to frost on your nipples cool.
Tried that with my units. Set to 80 my bill was $400 a month this summer. Insulation is apparently an afterthought out here.
I stayed in Vegas at a buddies house in Summerlin July/August, Vegas has a strange ac set up compared to here. Anyway the heat there is way different and if you ask me way stronger.
I want a blizzard. I'm bored.
it's -35 degrees Celcius (with the windchill) here at the North Pole.
Just above freezing here, doesn't feel too bad.
I like the snow, but holy excrement the subways are a fuckn mess in this weather.
2 straight "Snow days" here in VA. mind-boggled at how afraid these pansies are of snow, a dusting, and I get 2 days of cancellations and no work.
I freaking love it down here
Freezing for a week so far in Las Vegas and you guys look to get pummeled today. Good times!

You must be out near the mountains. I'm in Hampton Roads, just cold rain here.

Can you change the title to "Whining About the Weather?"
This is amazing to watch, every time you think it's finally done someone starts it all over again.
http://rumble.com/news/v1833-50-car-pileup-on-wisconsin-highway.html
The dumbest people are the ones getting out of their cars and just standing there like idiots.
What's going through their heads?
"Now how am I supposed to get to Sonic?""So, here's my insurance card and license. Yeah, that's quite a ding you have on the bumper there. I'm sure you can just--HOLYSHITWE'REGOINGTODIELOOKOUT!!!! Wooh, that was close, as I was saying, just buff that out."
That's not Celsius is it?
At least you've got sunshine, I've got a foot of snow coming. Not like I don't already have two feet of the stuff on my front deck.
I think you 2 eskimo's should be the only 2 allowed to bitch about the winter weather.
There was a cm of snow on the sidewalk this morning, ruined my day.
At least you've got sunshine, I've got a foot of snow coming. Not like I don't already have two feet of the stuff on my front deck.
Walked to work today to avoid all the asshat drivers cruising around like torpedoes into snowbanks.
A mile of stepping through anywhere from 1-4 feet of snow freaking sucks.

-31 is bad no matter how you look at it. 98% of this board couldn't last a minute there. Myself included, this coming from a dude who doesn't mind cold weather, mind you.
It's awful. But at least i'm battletested in this ecosystem.
A creampuff like Puck wouldn't last 30 seconds up here. His mustache would crystallize and fall off his face.
I wonder how a frozen donut tastes?

we had a bit of snowstorm on Saturday. Shoveling 3 foot snowdrifts off my driveway in this type of weather wasn't fun either.
I typically don't mind cold weather either, but this is too much. I don't know how the freak i played hockey in this.
Yup, blizzard warnings for Thursday into Friday. NWS calling for almost a foot where I live.So the posts whining about 12 inches of snow should double this thread.
This would be awesome if I didn't have to work the next 2 days.
So the posts whining about 12 inches of snow should double this thread.
It's 74 and sunny right now.
Oh and hahahahah I hope it gets colder MB.

You know what's sadder....you bitching about nice weather.
I could easily bitch about the weather because, I work in it most of the day.
I am not bitching, bitch.
You're bitching about us bitching, which is double bitchy. GTFO.(http://assets0.ordienetworks.com/misc/tumblr_lt6mxjBKWK1qam3y3o3_500.gif)
I would happily trade you for the -27C (-40 with windchill) that we have right now.

Countries in which fahrenheit is considered the "real" measurement of temperature:
- Jamaica
- The Cayman Islands
- Belize
- The Bahamas
- Palau (yes, I had to look it up as well)
- The United States of America
So basically, the greatest country in the world and its favorite vacation spots.
looked like a list of 3rd world dumpster fires to me.
Oh...and the States.
Good thing it's too cold for fires in Winnipeg. Except for exploded meth labs.
it's warming up here, babbie.
Skin will freeze after 10 mins, instead of 3 mins.

Btw looks like I left at the perfect time. Enjoying 70 degrees in this Southeast Asian season.
True story: Most people only ever heard of Palau because Survivor was there once.
Not true I remember it from WW2 there was a huge battle on the main Island 20,000 people were killed or wounded in such a small area.
Hey everyone, Puck remembers WW2.
Me a few years ago: "Who are all these people who are going out in clearly unsafe conditions to get to to work on days like these? Unless you work in a hospital or something, you're not that important, just stay home."
Me today: "I have to take a sick day if I want to stay home? freak that, I'm coming in!"
Yep. Work sucks.
Shoveling everything because I don't want to leave a pregnant wife and a lunatic little girl snowbound in less than an hour and a half sucks even worse.
How are the rub and tugs out there? Seems like that would be the Mecca of such things.
Yup, and it pisses me off. We can't even take a sick day, it's a vacation day we lose. We sacrifice for these people and they don't give two shits. We're still completely expendable. It's not "Thanks for making it in" it's "Clearly those who didn't feel they should make it in don't value their jobs much."
I absolutely despise Corporate America.
Haven't tried one yet, but prostitution is pretty much legal, so...
I have to wake up around 6AM for soccer tryouts tomorrow morning, and I'm dreading being outside for a few hours in 30 degree weather.
Feel bad for you guys. Definitely don't miss the weather I experienced in Minnesota.
Please tell me this means you're coaching soccer and not doing tryouts for a rec team.

freak this stupid weather right up its stupid derriere. +4C and heavy rain this morning which is melting the two feet of snow we have and creating massive lakes everywhere. By lunchtime it is scheduled to be -2, -9 by this evening and -23 overnight, meaning all the water is going to flash freeze and the whole city is going to be impossible to get around without dying.
^ it was -47 with the windchill this morning.
my balls nearly froze off during the walk from my car to my office. That's 1 block.

You walked to and from school 5 miles each way, uphill both ways and it wasn't 10 degrees farenheit like you pussies are crying about, it was NEGATIVE 10 farenheit, and it snowed 2 feet, EVERY freaking DAY, not a foot like you pussies are bitchin' about. And when someone bitched about it in my day, you'd get a chaw of chewin' tabacca spit right in yer eye. You pussies have it fuckin' easy.

Mr. One Upper will tell you how gosh darn tootin colder it was back "in the day."
Back in Puck's day they used to keep themselves warm by putting cigars out on their arms. They had to be sure to save an ember or two so they could light the kettle so they'd have 30 seconds of hot water to bathe with.

I wish we had a consistent climate like that. It's literally from one extreme (hot summers) to the other (extreme winters).
Laugh all you want, I like having these things called seasons."It's too cold waaaaaaaaaaaah It's too cold waaaaaaaaaaaah"
I hate seasons. I miss the bay area. Warm or chilly, always.
It's warmed up significantly this morning, it's a blistering -31 ATM.
All schools(elementary, middle, high, college, uni) are closed. So that was nice.

I lived in Anchorage for 3 years. That was pretty fun.
I don't know when I said I hate the cold, because I haven't.
You guys are a bunch of crying pussies, sitting at your desks or in your houses, I'm basically outside in this for more than 7 hours today. Sticking my bare hands in ice for the majority of the time, too.
Whatever, it's freaking winter, it is what it is.
This isn't aimed at our Canadian brethren either. They have it pretty bad.

still freaking cold outside.
Probably still nicer standing outside in the cold than sitting in your office listening to you whine about it.
I don't care, less than two weeks and I'm going to be in glorious sunshine and 30C heat every day.
That's 86F for the science math challenged. Is it Hawaii?
Atlanta
Atlanta is a blacker version of Miami.
It's also surprisingly gayer than Miami
That is surprising.
Now we know why Puck is so surly. He went all in to move to Miami only to find out Atlanta was gayer and it was too late to change his destination.
Yeah because LA is the most manly city in the US there are no gays there.
Wow, you really didn't do your research before the big relocation, did you? Buy a plane ticket. I'll direct you toward West Hollywood. It'll blow your mind before you blow some guy.
You're not my type.
Of course not. I'm straight, white, over the age of 19, and completely unwilling to ask you to "glaze my donut hole".
You're straight and wanted me to buy a plane ticket to blow you......yeah sure.
You're straight and wanted me to buy a plane ticket to blow you......yeah sure.
Hump someone else's leg.
I use the word "someone", leaving the choice of rooster ambiguous and theoretically open to any willing participant in the LA area...and your mind immediately goes to mine? I'm just going to back away now and please ask that you honor the restraining order when it arrives.
First you interject in a thread you have 3 posts in to say I am gay. Then after I say you live in LA stop throwing stones you want me to buy a ticket and go to West Hollywood your stomping grounds to find some dudes. It doesn't take a genius to see this is your Mambo thread. You're just not out of the closet yet and we can all see this is a veiled way of you asking me out on a date. No thank you.
You're right. I knew this thread would somehow come around to gay geography and I'd have a chance to backhandedly ask you out. Not only am I gay, but I'm a gay man with a penchant for mustaches that could only possibly be appealing to gay men stuck in the 70s and 80s. It's like you're trying to land a Canadian.
still freaking cold outside.
The two guys in the warmest spots in North America are using a thread about the bitter cold to proposition each other for sloppy wet blowjobs.
Maybe I'll just start properly appreciating the cold.
Don't you run a gay pet asylum?
No.
It's a store.
I have to admit, I'm impressed. I had to pull out my space heater for the first time in years, even with all the layers and excrement I have on. Not really cold, just fuckin brisk more than anything, the wind.
The worst part about this weather is, it's freaking dead around here.
^^haha, of course not.
I had my favorite raspy voiced customer here earlier, the rest, nope. A lot of people banged in today. Can't say I blame them. freaking flat leavers.
I would have been there in my skivvies as a show of support.
You'll have your opportunity to do that later this month.
Not this month.
I would have been there in my skivvies as a show of support.Skivvies? Please, please don't.
Skivvies? Please, please don't.There is no hardship too strenuous to see good friends and whiny bitches.
Don't worry badge, puck will walk here 5 miles in a blizzard uphill just to see us. Oh, with a 60 mph wind in his face.

I have been watching the extremes over in the US the last few weeks and it looks like tough sledding- ( deliberate pun).
We have had the mildest winter ever over here in Scotland, no snow or even particularly cold days so far, we have maintained a reasonable 10 degrees which is unheard off. The seasons are certainly changing. Oh wait this could make a nice lyric........
"the temps they are a changing"- don't expect any of you youngsters to know that line from the great Bob Dylan.
Hey that was our 6th grade graduation song!
"We gotta get right back from where we started from."
How could you not love that song?
"What're you doing?"
Makin' it look meaner!
What the well are you guys talking about? This is the Slap shot thread.
Am I the only one that wants to see the polar death machine roll back through, I don't know, some time in February?
kindly go freak yourself, sir.
Guessing you missed the reference. But, doesn't the polar death machine just plow through you guys for 4 months anyway?
"the temps they are a changing"- don't expect any of you youngsters to know that line from the great Bob Dylan.
Obligatory - Wow! I didn't expect any of you you geezers to know the lyrics from the Watchman opening credits. Is Bob Dylan the guy who did the music on that?
I had to take a detour to work today and went over the Williamsburg Bridge. Manhattan was completely obscured by fog. Hell, I couldn't even see the other end of my block this morning.

Odd year for weather. I know this may come as a shock, but the Bay Area has seen less than 5 rainy days since last spring. Typically 30-40% of the winter months are filled with rain/showers. It's been bone dry.
I'll be moving to Cali in my next life.

Was it started by lightning or by some fucknut with a cig?
Three men were arrested and charged with recklessly starting the fire, Glendora Police Chief Tim Staab said at news conference.
“We did receive a call from a citizen who advised that two people suspiciously were walking away from the fire,” Staab said. Officers responded and detained the men. A third man was detained by the U.S. Forest Service.
The suspects were identified by police as Clifford Eugene Henry, Jr., 22, of Glendora; Jonathan Carl Jarrell, 23, of Irwindale; and Steven Aguirre, 21, a homeless man from Los Angeles.
The three men being held at the Glendora city jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Nope not weather related unless one of the said before they started it, " Does it matter if we shoot this meth into our dope fiend veins or whether we smoke it?"
The Grampians fire complex was so intense on Friday it created a 12-kilometre-wide convection column, generating its own weather and lightning strikes and sparking smaller spot fires.
Lightning strikes started about 25 fires in East Gippsland, which are forecast to form an inferno of half a million hectares that will take a huge effort to control.
Idk how or when this happened but NY Metro area looking at as little as 4 inches to as many as 10 inches, tomorrow into tomorrow night.
I usually keep my eye on the weather because I'm a bit of a geek, but i had no idea we were getting snow until a few hours ago.
We're also getting Polar Vortex Light for the next 3 days.
Ruh roh
NWS now calling for 6'-12' of snow where I live now. Wind gusts up to 35-40 mph for tomorrow evening. Besides the fun commute I should have tomorrow, gonna have to get the salt and shovel ready.
You should go for another beach run.Haha....uh, no
excrement, it looks like it's going to hit while I'm at work. That's the worst case scenario. I'd rather be snowed in at home. Now I'm going to have to slog home in the middle of it.Pub?
Pub?
We're not getting anything down here. Shucks, I will live vicariously through you whiners.
You might get a sprinkling of jizz if the wind carries from South Beach.
Man, we are getting socked right now. I have an eerie feeling LI is gonna get something like 18-24" at this point. I'm just hoping I can get the freak out of manhattan this point. If not, pub?

As long as you're still at work, there's still train service, right? Of course, if you're forced out early...that means the trip home is fucked.

Side of the tire blew out. No bubbles or cuts, just happened.
Now I'm at the shop getting a new tire put on :( least it's warm in here.

No, the C stands for Fahrenheit.
I'm already planning on calling out of work tomorrow. Ain't gonna be no ferry in that excrement.
You take a ferry?
nah, for some reason that quote from shutter island popped in my head. Although tomorrow it would be faster to wait for a ferry system to be constructed and become operational than taking I-84 over the CT river
Tonight into tomorrow is gonna be small potatoes compared to what's coming on Sunday evening into all day Monday. They're talking in the parameters of feet not inches. Possible 40mph wind gusts too. Thinking about a PD on Monday. I never use them.
I'm probably going to regret using one yesterday.
If we get that kind of snowfall at the end of the weekend, that's going to set me on a course for the second of three straight Mondays off. No way am I going overboard to get in during a severe storm again. After the last time, my willingness to go "above and beyond" is gone.
I want a blizzard. I'm bored.
From November 22:
F U BADGER
This weather is nuts. I only got about 2 inches of actual snow, on top of the 8 from Monday, but I can't believe how much harder is was to clean the cars off and shovel the walks and stoops it was this morning as opposed to a foot of actual snow. It's basically 2 inches of snow encased with a layer of ice and...now, out here on LI where I live, it seems to be just a freezing rain. Every shovel full felt like a good 10 pounds.

/in before Puck bitches about my bitchingNah I offered some pretty pics for you, I hope you enjoy.
One boss is a no-show, one is leaving at noon, and one is leaving as soon as his meetings end. And I'll end up at my desk till five "just in case" so I can walk home with a foot of snow on the ground.
Everyone was saying were supposed to get one foot + of snow this weekend
From what im seeing were not even supposed to get any snow at all now.
Am I missing something here?
The downgrading of the weekend storm was like one giant tampon, it helped to stop the menstrual flow around here.
hopefully Chuck survived shoveling those few inches of snow. I was going to send a St.Bernard with a barrel around his neck to save his derriere.Send the St. Bernard just in case. Tullamore Dew, please.
Here in Virginia we got about 2 inches of snow. Roads were not even slippery. In the mile before I got home, there were 3 cars in ditches in completely separate accidents. Short of driving straight into the ditch I don't even know how it could happen.
I saw a guy in a F250 stuck in a Rite Aid parking lot. Was it on fire?

Jesus Christ, Georgia, why so many car fires?
I'm sick of the "it's unusual for where we live" excuse. I know not to run to the attic if a tornado touches down in Schenectady; these dumb fucks need to know not to set their cars ablaze during sprinkles.
Seriously.. it's like the snowfall down south carries autism
Seriously.. it's like the snowfall down south carries autism
The reason the south can't handle the snow is the same reason the north can't handle hurricanes.
The reason the south can't handle the snow is the same reason the north can't handle hurricanes.
i think i'd rather live in the south.
I'd rather deal with snow than hurricanes.
Florida is also very very stupid
The reason the south can't handle the snow is the same reason the north can't handle hurricanes. We're gonna start this stupidity again?
I'd rather deal with snow than hurricanes.haha...how about both?
We're gonna start this stupidity again?
I would rather 3 feet of snow then a hurricane.
No region is more equipped than another for a major hurricane. It's a disaster pretty much anywhere they hit.
what stupidity? infrastructure?I'm not even entertaining this argument. It's as freaking dumb as rocks.
I'm not even entertaining this argument. It's as freaking dumb as rocks.
Better yet, ask my in-laws...her grandmother still lives with them because of that non-event about a year and a half ago.
I would rather 3 feet of snow then a hurricane.
No region is more equipped than another for a major hurricane. It's a disaster pretty much anywhere they hit.
I'm not talking about Sandy. I was obviously wrong initially (so were a lot of other people in Florida) thinking a category 1 would freaking destroy the northeast like it did...no one knew the storm surge would be like it was. I obviously felt like a dick.And...how good did New Orleans "handle" Katrina? How well did South Florida "handle" Andrew?
The infrastructure obviously didn't help, but Sandy would have fucked up a lot of places with that storm surge. I'm speaking in generalities
And...how good did New Orleans "handle" Katrina? How well did South Florida "handle" Andrew?
Bottom line, if the weather (especially a hurricane or tornado) is bad enough...nothing freaking matters, anything goes. I don't care how anything is constructed.
I'll take snow over drought.None of this excrement is good...and it's just gonna get worse. Weather extremities are now a reality and it's already steamrolling...
I'll take snow over drought.
Yes, all hurricanes are totally created equal.Holy excrement dude. Just drop it.
I was just thinking earlier, is there a region of the US that isn't susceptible to some sort of extreme weather/natural disaster? Closest I could come up with was the Southwest, but of course they have droughts and extreme heat.
That's not true. Buildings are built to specific code in hurricane regions.
That's like saying Japan isn't more equipped for an earthquake then Guatemala
I was just thinking earlier, is there a region of the US that isn't susceptible to some sort of extreme weather/natural disaster? Closest I could come up with was the Southwest, but of course they have droughts and extreme heat.
No it is bullshit. A major hurricane hits and the damage is in the billions, does it really matter to the degree?
You can have the most "hurricane proof" building in the world it still will not stop a storm surge.
If you want to compare this banana republic to NY similarly to Japan/Guatemala go right ahead, my senses are keen to the smell of bullshit. Again no matter where a cat 3-4-5 hits, there won't be electricity for a week or longer, there will be 100-1000's people displaced from their homes, there will be loss of life and basic survices. It doesn't matter what region it hits.
I have been in hurricanes in both regions and you know what, there isn't any difference in people's reactions nor the amount of damage. This is a totally retarded argument.
The building codes are great and all but I know plenty of GC's that laugh at that, it's impossible to enforce.
That's it I am done, I don't want a major hurricane to hit anywhere.
I was just thinking earlier, is there a region of the US that isn't susceptible to some sort of extreme weather/natural disaster? Closest I could come up with was the Southwest, but of course they have droughts and extreme heat.
Seattle will tell you it just gets some rain, but that's a city ripe for an earthquake plus liquefaction. And nobody knows how long Rainier will remain dormant.
I'm guessing around the great lakes - Michigan, Ohio and northern NY. As long as you are north enough to avoid tornado country.
In terms of predictable, non extreme weather, the Pacific Northwest, but you get earthquakes.
Snowstorms were factored into the discussion
Snowstorms were factored into the discussion
You read my mind again, I was just looking up Seattle's extreme weather/disaster history.
it certainly does when it's the difference between tens/hundreds of thousands dead and displaced compared to a few thousand. Is it still fucked? Yes, but it could be a lot worse when an area isn't prepared.
Earthquakes are different, but look at what happened in Haiti. For certain countries, that would have been next to nothing. There it killed 1-2% of their entire population.
The Japan Tsunami would have killed 20x the amount of people in a different country that didn't have early alert systems they did.
Yes a strong enough storm will freak up anything to an extent. My point was that a lesser/borderline storm can freak up somewhere that isn't built/prepared for it. It's a valid point and there's no need to get emotional about that fact
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/05/01/weekinreview/01safe.html?_r=0
Comparing one of the most advanced countries to one of the poorest is a great basis for an argument. So is the fact, said country's population is exponentially bigger than the poor one. Take into effect how small, tiny actually, the poor country is too, or, even, where the actual earthquakes happened.
I don't care how anything is constructed.
Good you can read. Haiti is a poor freaking country.
Work cancelled for the rest of the week

I think it's more of a technicality to allow extra government funds to become available for cleanup.Yep. I think Christie declared one for NJ before anything even fell from the sky.
He is doing it for a myriad of reasons all of which work in his favor to make the storm worse than it really is. 1.) More Gov't funds 2.) Status within the state 3.) Help people at work etc. etc.
Cleanup? It's snow. You wait until it gets warm, then it cleans itself up. It's clever stuff like that.

Random southern car fires don't melt. Well, they don't melt away completely anyway. Also, downed trees, power lines, dead elderly people,......

What gets me is that even when we had the rarest snowfall in 20 years a few years ago, cars were not bursting into flames. Folks drove slow and just managed. The south is just stupid.

No, no you aren't. For a start Canada has a colossal range of temperatures depending on where you are, and for a second the coldest recorded temperature in Scotland ever is an annual occurrence in many Canadian cities, including the ones where MB and I live. Relative to England then yes, Scotland is a bit colder, but I didn't know what cold was until I moved here.

No. I live in South Carolina.
Okay. On my bucket list. I guess weather pattern is for excrement there as well. I was going to golf there back a few years early in the year and I always thought February was a pretty hospitable.

I haven't been in years, and Heismanberg can surely attest to it, but end of February and beginning of March and End of the year are the best times for Golf in Myrtle Beach. I went mid summer one year and lost 40 lbs in one round.

Yes, your weeping vag has soaked this thread thoroughly.
Waaaaaah it's cold. Waaaaah it's snowing.
Yeah it was me whining and bitching, yawn.
You were bitching and whining about what other people were posting.
No weather issues to bitch about, but the air quality out here fuckn' blows.. You may have to turn to cigarettes to clear your lungs.
Rained last night. Solid tenth of an inch. Getting another 3.5 inches over the next few days. The drought can be downgraded from 'imminent death' to 'lol did you really think that helped?'.
Having lived there, all rain this time of year during a drought will do is cause million dollar homes to slide down hillsides. Meanwhile the only vegetation that might take a hold is scrub brush. Then a couple months of dry weather leading to one hell of a fiery summer.
Looking forward to your rain coming my way though. They are projecting a foot of snow up on Mount Charleston and severe rain storms in the valley over the weekend.
freak! This is the same model as the picture above, just the noon running vs the 6am. This one is basically predicting doom.

Not all of Southern California lives in the foothill communities. I'm guessing you lived in the SGV? The farmland stretching up through the state that feeds a lot of the country is certainly going to appreciate the rain. So will the reservoirs and aquifers. I have never lived in the SGV, nor do I know anyone who does, so I can't comment on that area. I do know people in Malibu, and the comment is true for them. The people living in LA proper, though, and those outside the immediate area really appreciate the rain.
I don't even know what SGV means, and I lived in SoCal for 8 years. Owned a place in Box Canyon (between Simi and San Fernando)and remember 10 years ago when we had a bit of a drought, followed by just enough rain to make the highly flammable excrement grow, just to have a hot dry summer and watch it all burn.
San Gabriel Valley. So, you lived in different foothills. Just like I was saying. San Gabriel Valley, Simi Valley, Malibu. Fire hazard areas. I sure wouldn't characterize all of Southern California based on them. The negative effects get press because they're negative effects. For those of us not in those areas and who want to see our produce prices stabilize, the rain is a positive. Saying that the only thing rain would do right now is damage property and cause fires is silly.
I was exaggerating man. Of course the rain is needed. I've just seen the negative effects of rain after a drought first hand. Obviously everyone's experience will vary.
Our produce prices have been hosed because of you guys too. Let it rain!
Was in Beverly Hills today and saw a massive detour on Sunset Blvd. 4 fire trucks that I could see, all trying to clear a flood from what I could tell. Had a major freeway shut down. People here can't handle the rain.

Tit Monday is almost on the horizon.
Are you telling me I don't have to drink light beer? That I look perfectly fine just the way I am? Ah, thanks Puck.
Tit Monday's a while off yet, don't be getting too hormonal just yet. You need daytime temperatures into the 20s before you can have a chance of TM. It's a late spring / early summer phenomenon, and we're not out of winter yet.

It was 2/3 of the way through April last year, so let's say 3 weeks away.
Except if you recall there was a minor heatwave at the back end of last March, it was a really mild and short winter last year.

Heil Puck!
Put Puckstapo in my title.
One glimpse of cleavage does not a TM make.
wish granted.
Just because your weather is a month behind ours doesn't mean I was wrong. I was 1 whole day early in calling it last year.
So what you're saying is, you called it early last year. You couldn't possibly have known that you were one day early.
...I said on a Sunday that it would be Monday, and it turned out to be Tuesday. That's the thing about predicting, you don't know.
Yes! thank you sir.Holy excrement. Only you would embrace a moniker like this.
No reason not to forecast something entirely dependent on hormones.
Holy excrement. Only you would embrace a moniker like this.

Lots of rain down here, and humidity. This is the start of a very shirty 4 month stretch out here.Wah, wah, wah, it's rainy out. Tommy's a bitch.
If it's entirely dependent on hormones then Tit Monday is precisely whenever I deem it to have occurred. So I'm still expecting it before the draft. The arguments on this board are amazing.

Tit Wednesday was in full swing.
So a tropical disturbance may graduate into a depression (or possibly even a hurricane) over the next few days. We could get 2-4" dumped on us for July 4th.
Wanted to die in New Orleans. I don't know how you people live with humidity any more. I'm too spoiled.
Going to break 115 here today
Bosses told me to disregard the dress code for the summer. Digging my Borat thong out of the closet tomorrow.

So...12.83 inches of rain in 8 hours recorded in Islip. Apparently, this is 5 inches more EVER recorded and that's within a 24-hour period, not 8.

The National Weather Service models are predicting a 99% chance that this coming winter will start sooner and be harsher than any we have seen, possibly in this century. Weather science experts are saying the amount of snow we can expect could be many times what we normally get, in most areas. The northeast and midwest states will probably be the hardest hit, but the expected harsh winter weather could affect the entire continental United States.

Good, I get a new batch of vacation days once we get to January 1.
How great would it be if the first blizzard hit November 9th?
You'd have the perfect reason to stay in LI and ride Santa's lap all day!
You keep referencing Santa do you mean SJ or my Dads friend who really does look like Santa?
Why would I call SJ Santa? I'm talking about the one MB and Badger said you took balls deep under the table last year.

Balls deep under the table? Do you mean one of them watched while I blew Santa or they watched while Santa blew me? So confused over this about me allegidly blowing another dude. I mean other than that one time drunk in Virginia or the other time in Santa Monica or the other time in Winnipeg or that time in Queens or that other time in Connecticut I have never even been even solicited by flaming homosexuals.
What in the freak are you two babbling about?
About the time you gave Puck a Spanish Bayonet.I'm no Santa.

That being said weather heads get a lot of excrement but they are very good at their jobs despite popular opinion.

No it's not. A bit cloudy, but 19 C right now. Going ice skating w the kids later, so I can see the confusion.
My wife just tasked me with putting the lawn mower in the shed, and bringing out the snow blower.
In exchange, I asked the wife to buy me 6 boxes of ginger snaps.
Take her to Lombardi's for a slice.

With the windchill, it's -25 F this morning. Go freak yourself, Puckstapo.
I saw some minor precipitation this morning. I'm very upset about this.
That, or moving into it because they can't find their house.
Or an epic hot-box location.
The Pineapple Express (yes, they actually named it that) has reached the Bay Area. Flash flood warnings were to be in effect later today, but it got messy much quicker than I expected.
Went to the campus to pick up a new office computer today. Loaded and shoved off to my office, only to find that by 9:00am, the entire block and 2 adjacent blocks in both directions were closed off due to flooding. It was somewhere between 2-3 feet of water with one unfortunate Mercedes Sedan that go stuck in the middle of the road attempting to get into to work. I was told it was a physician who was trying to get in to work.
I attempted parking a few blocks away but found that most of the parking lots were flooded about the same as the roads, so that ended my quest to head in to work.
So, I'm staying home until Monday. Good deal.
We're starting to see some of the southern side of that. We're getting the front side now in Vegas, cold coming from the north. Rain all day tomorrow (we need it badly) then we'll get some warmer weather once it passes through.
Good luck up there, it looks brutal.

We're going to have a big hit tonight, which will look absolutely puny compared to yours. Just 1-2 inches overnight, then another half inch at most tomorrow. Thanks in advance for sending us some of that water later.
You probably saw the rock slides in Camarillo on the news. One of the reporters was standing right next to where I used to live in Camarillo Springs.
First you're all "we've got no water, it's all droughty, world is ending" and then you're all "we've got too much water, it's all drowny, world is ending". Honestly, you Californians are never happy.

freaking whiner, it's in the 60's here. Boohooo you're getting 25 to 30 inches of snow. Buffalo got ten feet and didn't cry.I just take solace in the fact you'd love nothing more than to be in NY, blizzard or no blizzard.
Yeah the weather is freaking great.

Glad I'm missing this entire blizzard. It's actually really nice in London now. Gonna be 53 on Wednesday.

The first part is 100 percent true.
So is the second.
I will send you a shovel enjoy the snow.
I don't have to shovel.
People are freaking here. As long as I don't lose power I'll be in snowcation paradise. That's my only concern. The snow doesn't bother me, it the possible 60mph wind gusts with everything frozen that bothers me.

it would have to snow 8+ feet for it to concern you.
it would have to snow 8+ feet for it to concern you.I have 3 trees right on the side of my house that always sway like crazy in the wind. All it takes is ice, I don't know where you're coming up with 8 feet of snow, the snow really doesn't have to do with it. Power goes out, the heat stops working, pipes can freeze...that's my biggest concern.
Hey Guinness, the 8ft part was definitely a joke about how tall you are.The 8 foot part wasn't a joke. ;)
Hey all Puckstapo aside, good luck I hope all is well after this nonsense is over, 3 feet in a day is no joking matter. Stay warm and freak yourselves you bitches.
I will maintain body heat by remaining in a perpetual masturbatory state for the next 2 days

You didn't spend enough time in TGG's b.s. section to see his huge weather thread? He was a fairly knowledgeable amateur meteorologist.
He's a really cool dude as far as I can tell. I got along very well with him. It's too bad he wouldn't come over here.
He was an annoying dick when he was talking about hockey.
Well excrement, most of the people at that site can't talk football, I can only imagine how bad the hockey discussions were. You know I love the Rangers but I will be damned if I read that Rangers thread over there very much. I have a very different way of looking at the Rangers than the stranger homerific blind in one eye and cataracts in the other way most of them view hockey.
Which was pretty much the entire issue; having the temerity to question his extremely blinkered view of an incident in a game involving the Rangers led to a tirade of abuse about how long he'd been watching the game and how much more he knows about it than me etc etc. The Sens/Rangers playoff series a couple of years ago saw a number of these incidents, which start off amusing and then become extremely irritating.
On the flipside, there's a guy over there called mattrobinson or something like that who's a good Rangers poster who actually knows hockey and can talk sensibly about it while still being a fan of the team.
They're already backing off on the wind gusts for where I live, not that 40mph gusts are anything to sneeze at, so that's good. They're also calling for a little less accumulation too, not that 18-24" is anything to sneeze at, but the eastward trend is helping out.
Meteorologists are forecasting that a major blizzard will hit the Northeast starting Monday night, with more than two feet of snow potentially shutting down roads and keeping residents from New Jersey to Maine stuck in their homes. Here are some tips for surviving blizzard conditions:
Grocery stores will quickly sell out of food during a blizzard, so be sure to stock up on supplies several days before you came across this article.
If any of your pets go outside for any reason, leave them there. They belong to the snows now.
Smear the blood of a lamb upon your doorposts so that the great low-pressure system spares your family as it passes over your home.
Purchase a CB radio to maintain lines of communication with the other lunatics in your neighborhood.
Steer wildly when you hit that first patch of ice.
Stockpile flint and colored beads. These will be important for bartering in the After Times.
Prepare by reading Jack London’s “To Build A Fire,” which will teach you how to keep warm when there is no sun nor hint of sun, though the sky is empty of clouds. And yet there seems an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that makes the day dark, and that is due to the absence of sun when day breaks cold and gray, exceedingly cold and gray.
Be one of those freaking people who clears out the whole shelf of bottled water at the store.
Keep frail young Frederick away from the windows, for he is consumptive, and a mere moment too long in the bluster could spell the end of his beautiful life.
Be aware that no matter what you do, sometimes you’re just going to be crushed by the sheer weight of the snow.
Criticize your mayor
National forecasts are saying Cat 1 hurricane winds in some places, with up to 3-4 inches an hour. Eastern Long Island through eastern Mass look like they are in for hell. Those a little west are still not going to be happy.
Hope the NYC folks that take mass transit are already home and aren't expecting to work tomorrow. It's getting shut down at 11pm.
I got home after 7. On my 4th beer already, gonna do my first bit of shoveling in about 10 minutes.

freak i hate snow. im glad i wont get totally fucked by the snow until later in the week
During big snow storms we, my brother and some friends, used to walk to 7 Eleven for a big hot chocolate. It was like a two or three mile trek, man was it glorious drinking that thing when it's really coming down, walking back. That was what was so great about it. Just the whipping of the winds, that was the only noise there was.
During a big storm it's so peaceful and quiet. I think the only place more peaceful or as peaceful is being on the ocean at night, although some crazy excrement happens then.
So not much of a blizzard eh?
Got 6 inches, if that. This freaking sucks. Got drunk last night and have to go to work now
I took my dog out this time.....awesome.

My company is HQ'd in Chicago and doesn't know any better. Left early yesterday and staying home today. Full pay and not using any personal time off.
Hey Badger what's the phone # to your companies HQ?
I am placing a call, we can't have freeloaders sucking on Corporate America's tit. We can't afford to have productivity in our country to go any lower.

I remember I had a huge German Shepherd growing up, what a great dog she was. She used to sleep in my room, upstairs. Every morning I would get up and she would continue to sleep. As soon as I opened the door and called her, she would chug down the stairs and race to the door to go outside so she could chase squirrels and go to the bathroom.
When she was approx. 1 she had her first snowfall. So I get up, and she is still sleeping and I get downstairs. So I call her like normal and she comes racing to me. I held the door open, when she sees it's all white outside, she put the brakes down like from a Flinstones cartoon and came to a screeching halt right at the door. She couldn't process why it was all white.
She weighed a good 85-90 pounds. I figured what the hell and picked her up and put her in the snow. She started racing around, jumping eating rolling in the snow, she loved it, I couldn't get her back inside. I will always remember that day.
Blizzard conditions in Maine. freaking wind is freezing my apartment, and everything in this city is shut down today. I have Tuesdays off anyway, so this is just freaking up my 'weekend'.
Haha sounds like the Shepherd my wife and i used to have. She loved the snow. Actually my favorite photo of her is one with snow all over her face.
This is the first big snow for our new dog, a pit bull. She is baffled! Had the same "wtf?" reaction to so much white. Enjoys eating snow and putting her face in it, but generally dislikes cold so she's ready to run inside pretty quickly. Obviously the snow is over her head in many places so I've had to dig a large path through the backyard. Super great for my blown out lower back!
I need to see a pic of a city street with barely any snow and a bald eagle with "Never Forget" written on the top.
What's up with the general annoyance from people that their community doesn't need to spend tons of time and money cleaning up after a huge storm?
What's up with the general annoyance from people that their community doesn't need to spend tons of time and money cleaning up after a huge storm?
I took the whole day yesterday. The office opened at noon but I thought "F that." My street wasn't plowed until 2PM and the tertiary street that runs into mine wasn't plowed until 4:30. My job sent out an email that anyone in "hard hit" areas was excused and others should use caution on their way in. Whatever. To me, my neighborhood (border of Flushing and Jamaica) got nailed.
When I took the kids to school this morning (North Flushing/Bayside) it looked like a joke. There was barely 6 inches, if that. In front of my apartment was a foot and a half.
People were up in arms toward meteorologists yesterday. It's amazing how people don't understand how weather prediction works. Someone pointed it out on Twitter yesterday: why do METs get hassled for predicting wrong but saving people's lives but Wall Street gets off easy?
Not sure how you can fault DeBlasio for being cautious.
I can't stand the guy but people that are pissed over the handling of the blizzard are just mad because they don't like him either. When it comes to natural disasters or mother nature it's way better to over prepare for a storm that's not as strong as forecast than to have the opposite events happen. I can't see how else he could have handled it other than to say, " Hey the weather guy will be wrong freak it everything will remain open!" In which case he would be crucified if the storm was strong.
On second thought the people criticizing this massive dickhole of a mayor are just freaking morons. He was correct here.
Bloomberg didn't close anything before a predicted snow storm a few years back and some of the roads weren't plowed for days, if not a week. People were howling for his head because he didn't "prepare" enough.
Would these pissed off people have wanted it better off that way?
That was largely because of the union that decided they weren't going to plow anything. But they definitely let things run too long before that one.I'm just saying, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. What the hell is less than one day of shutting things down to keep people safe and make the roads and rails safer for emergency vehicles.
When Irene went off track people underestimated it and were hurt.
Earlier today someone gave Irene as an example of the media overhyping a storm. I had no idea WTF they remember about it since I recall it being a pretty serious storm. We lost power for more than a day and a lot of people had property damage.
Not to mention entire towns were destroyed upstate. I remember going out to wyndham with some friends and spending the entire day shoveling mud out of a post office. That whole corridor from Port Jervis to Margretville was fucked if I remember correctly. Mudslides, wind, floods, a disaster. That's a large area. Areas of Western Vermont and Massachusetts saw damage of the like that was unprecedented for them.
Also the neighbour is quite hot.

It's snowing
I will attempt to snap a surreptitious shot at some point over the next day or two. If I'm lucky I'll get her sister as well, she's always coming round and she's hotter.

People are flipping out here because it's supposed to "get cold" tonight.I went down to Florida years ago and they were bitching (wearing winter coats) because it was like 45F at night. I'm like, it's 20F in the daytime in NY right now, this is nice.
So many idiots stocking up on bottled water and bread like it's the end of times. I wish it was...

I saw somewhere, NYC hasn't been below 0F in 20 years. I was kind of surprised by that. It's freaking cold, no doubt, but this wind is nuts.

People that panic, easily. Because if I go to the grocery store after work today, it will be packed with idiots stocking up on unnecessary items.I've flipped opinions. I have gotten so tired of people talking about everyone else who can't drive in snow. It gets really old after a while. I guess some people feel like they are Billy Badass because they drove to work in some snow.

Keep hiding in Florida, bitch.
People in NY like to walk around, bar hop, roof top bars, enjoy the sun, and all that. It's very much a waking city. When you're driving to and from work, it's completely different.
The cold sucks. You have to carry around a heavy coat, scarf, a hat. Going out to get a cup of coffee is a whole production. You can't enjoy the city as much either.
Bad weather fuckn sucks. It's not about bitching. It's a lot worse than the summer, which is the benchmark for awesome weather. Clear skies, and warm weather.
Cold rain and having to schlep an umbrella around? freak that.
Snow that completely ruins your commute? freak that.

Who knew kids soccer could dictate the weather?
That's just a theory perpetuated by the liberal media. Everyone knows bad weather is caused by the gays.
We're getting selective weather which seems designed just to kill my daughter's soccer team. Tournament Saturday/Sunday? Massive rains Saturday night that kill the field and cancel the rest of the tournament. Beautiful Sunday. Practice Monday? Violent winds. Beautiful Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Practice Friday and game Saturday? Rain predicted to start at the same time Friday and probably kill the fields.

We are due to get 7-10 inches of snow here this weekend, which is the equivalent of 287 feet in New York.
Just in time for my dogsled out of Charlotte on Sunday. Excellent.
We're looking at 6-10 inches of snow today with no real wind threat. Very nice. Kids are excited, I'm off today, awesome.Windy as hell here. Gusts up to 40 mph. No way I'm going on the road with all the dumbasses here. The boy and I might trek out there later today and build a snowman, but I think it's too windy for the little one.

Just as long as you're home with nothing to do and some beer handy, it should be a good day. Have fun.Made a quick run to Trader Joe's yesterday. Got a couple of bombers of some chocolate stout for $2.50 each. It doesn't look like anything special, but it was OK, great for the price. A little thin for a stout, but for $2.50 I ain't complainin'.
We actually have a blizzard warning here. Been a while since I've seen one of those around these parts. We're all gonna die.we've had 3 blizzards since Dec 1. Sack up.

In this thread? You would have a have better chance of finding an unused pair of buttpluggs at a JO outing. How's Miami, fag?

How's Miami, fag?The usual hot and rainy, I want the frigid crap you guys have.
I'm no Eskimo by any means, but I'd rather have this than miserable hot summer weather.
It's year round that's the problem. Ugh now I sound like a bitch, I see what you're up to.hoo-ha.

Yes definitely, though the vag work they have done makes them look exactly like a real woman, so real you think their hoo-ha and funbags were real, it's uncanny. Two even had kids, tranny surgery has come a long long way since they started implanting female reproduction systems.Did you do a full obstetric exam on them all? Tip: a vagina doesn't have balls.

In fairness Charlotte is a pretty nice airport as well, I've connected through there a couple of times. Don't do it on a Sunday morning though, because freak those stupid Bible Belt licensing restrictions.
The worst airport in America, and possibly the world, to connect through has to be O'Hare. I love Chicago but freak everything about that pooper of an airport.
LaGuardia says hello very very very forcefully.
LaGuardia says hello very very very forcefully.
I've never connected through LaGuardia, only flown to and from it. I don't remember it being too terrible, but I think my issue with O'Hare is probably greater because I'm usually connecting to or from Canada. As a result I always have to change terminals and go through Immigration, and it seems like the connection is always delayed, so every single freaking time I end up sprinting through endless freaking tunnels and corridors to make my connection and get on the flight sweating like a fat rapist.
Atlanta is the worst. Dallas and Charlotte are both awesome.

I hate Atlanta, but Detroit is the worst I've been to. O'Hare was pretty shitty, but not as bad as Detroit or Atlanta.
I've flown into and out of Detroit Metro about a dozen times. It seems like a decent airport, nothing special. What makes you say it's the worst?

Stuck at DFW. My connecting flight to Lafayette this morning got cancelled about an hour after I arrived. The next flight out is at 5:00 PM CST. Switched over to a Lake Charles flight that was scheduled to leave at 1:00 PM CST and it was pushed back to 6:00 PM CST. Had to cancel the rental car. Just a major pain in the derriere of a day.your airport adventure is more interesting than MParty's.
So now I'm back waiting for the shitty, late Lafayette flight. They gave me a garbage meal voucher which I'm going to use on Genghis Grill. RIP DFW toilets.
It's hammer time.

Just in time for the last 3 weeks of winter.
Badger, eat a bag of dicks. hahaha
We're goin' to Rick's!
It is dumping snow here. I love itGuinness is probably getting a ton too
Guinness is probably getting a ton tooI actually got home from work a little early because of the weather and just finished an hour of some of the hardest shoveling I've ever done. I shoveled a good 6 inches about 9:30 am and tonight it was a good inch layer of ice under at least 9 more inches of hard powder. Plus scraping the freaking cars...unreal.
I just let it pile up and melt on it's own when we get a decent snow here (rarely). I've never understood shoveling snow unless you have a steep driveway. Obviously in the south it doesn't happen much.
In my city you're required to shovel your path and the sidewalk in front of your house within 12 hours of the snowfall or you can be fined. Why do they require that?
Why do they require that?
Because it's way too expensive to send mini-plows out to do the sidewalks every time it snows, and because essential services like the mailman have to be able to get to your door.Fair enough. I'm not in a city. No essential services that need to walk here.
I don't mind. I quite like shovelling and it's a nice neighbourly few minutes when everyone is out there the morning after a fall with their coffees clearing the sidewalks.

Obviously in the south it doesn't happen much. When you get over a foot of snow, and then it's 15 degrees, the snow doesn't melt, it becomes unremovable and you can't get out of your house or get your car out of the driveway or from in front of your house because a plow has gone down your street a half-dozen times and there's 2 feet of frozen snow on your car.

It is for residential and commercial buildings, as I used to be the guy who had to salt the sidewalk, but it wasn't law for residential or commercial buildings.
True story, I actually ripped my door handle off my rear driver side door tonight because I thought I chipped enough of the ice off to open the door, but I guess I hadn't.
Even by your standards this is an impressively nonsensical explanation of the law.
It's a different world down here in Winter. Even when we get a foot of snow, it never stays cold enough to where it isn't gone in a week or less. Either way, I can drive right on top of it in a Prius. My car is in my garage so no scraping.I'm imagining your last post in your actual voice: "I just let it sit there 'til it melts."
I didn't think about the plows piling up snow. I don't think I've ever seen a snow plow go by my street.

Puck will whine about how he doesn't whine about snow. Then he will manage to work in a hockey story from 1974 where he tore off an eyelid on a slashing penalty. He reattached it with a rubber band and some airplane glue, sniffed the glue and played high off his derriere for the rest of the game and was clearly STILL the best player on the ice.

hockey related whine:
I never whine about snow and the cold. It's because of my time playing hockey in the cold.
I just finished a suspension for 60 days in the over 40 league. You think I got suspended that long for fighting? You would be wrong. Swinging stick? Nope. Tripping or checking someone? Nope. Abusing an official? Nope. Hurting someone? Nope. I told the Commish to "send me a freaking email" because he's spineless. That league sucks anyway, when I am in a league where I am far and away one of the top two or three players, it's a excrement league.
Oh the email comment was because the commish is a former cop that disciplined other cops. I had a run in with a French Canadian poopchute (not one of the really good ones I play with in the invite only skate, they're really good dudes in a total homosexual way). He didn't like me taking matters in my own hands and stopping that drunk assholes bullshit, yes, he comes to games drunk. We were what I consider friends, not close at all, but if he has problem with me he can tell me. Anyway, he sent me a really long whiny email that I ignored because it was long and whiny. It was mostly about my temper and how I should run to him if something happens on the ice. Haha no that will never happen.
So I told him to send me a freaking email when we had a disagreement.....freaking bundle of sticks.

You're gonna need at least three trucks for yourself.

Wow this cold is really getting to puck. Pretty easy to tell that he is hours away from breaking and/or freezing to death. He came into his hockey equipment, we know that much at least.
For me? nah bro I am enjoying this. You bitches will be crying like it's your period, I should post a pic of a giant tampon.

I get the whole nonsense of "NYers aren't sissies" but for crying out loud we're talking about a possible two feet of snow plus high winds. I'm not saving lives over here.

Irma is rediculous.
Rilly? No worries brutha. This excrement is sort of my hobby. No joke though, Irma is going to freak some excrement up.
Ha, just ball bustin.
Can't imagine that thing staying south and breaking loose in the Gulf of Mexico.Thats the worst case scenario. People are floating around cat 6 if she makes it to the gulf.
That would be horrible anywhere it hit after those warm waters.
I didn't know there was such a thing as category 6. Is that sort of a guesstimate on what it would be if there were such a thing?Thank you for asking. There has never been anything bigger than a cat 5. Cat 6 doesn't technically exist, yet.
There's no such thing as a cat 6, why do these Dickhead weather people need to constantly make up bullshit?I figured you'd be happy it's hitting there now that you are back in the closet and no longer there.
Jim Cantore is already masturbating on a South Florida beach thinking about this storm.
Not gonna click it but I'm 99% sure this one will blame it on Clinton, safe spaces, and BLM.
Irma is a Cat 5 and is still strengthening. This is going to be more catastrophic than Harvey just was.
Global warming's bullshit though folks. The President said so.
It's a Chinese hoax designed to hurt American business. In fact, it's probably China creating these hurricanes and sending them to attack the US.
I think Harvey will end up being worse because of its stationary track and biblical flooding. Irma will have worse winds, but higher wind speeds don't always equal a worse outcome. It's gonna be terrible, but I can't imagine anything equalling that flooding from Harvey.
Speaking of winds, this thing won't stay a category 5 all the way to Florida. It'll drop to 4 (not that that makes it a lot better), and I believe Harvey was a 4 when it hit.
There's no such thing as a cat 6, why do these Dickhead weather people need to constantly make up bullshit?

Jose is looking like it will stay out in the ocean according my meterology co workers. Irma is supposedly making landfall in the Carolinas now.
Irma is currently pounding islands in the Carribean, and now Jose has formed behind it and Katia has formed off the coast of Mexico. That's a huge bitch.
What an awful year.
I'm no meteorologist, but I like to pay attention to weather events. Irma is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. The satellite and radio images are insane. Here's a full-disk image of Earth from last night. You can see Irma just as easily as Florida: https://twitter.com/VORTEXJeff/status/905251146620706816 (https://twitter.com/VORTEXJeff/status/905251146620706816)
Irma's nowhere near the Carolinas right now. It passed over the Leeward Islands and is on its way towards the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Most tracks show it in the Carolinas on Sunday, but that's dependent on whether it hits Cuba at all, and whether it smashes into Florida first.
Jose got itself together quickly and neared hurricane strength overnight last night. It's also in the same waters that made Irma what it became. The models currently show Jose moving either just north of, or through the Leeward Islands. Hopefully, Jose will take a much more northerly track than Irma.
Usually storms that track thru an exact area after a super storm do not become as powerful because the first storm churned everything up and it can't absorb as much energy. That's actually a meteorological tenet. But with the really warm waters who knows.
Apparently it's hitting Trump's Caribbean estate on St Martin right now, and then stands a very good chance of making its way to Mar-A-Lago. I'm not a religious man, but if I were I might think that a message was being sent. If it does a job on Mar-A-Lago and then starts marching on NYC I'm going to church.
I meant that's where it would actually hit land. Apparently it's curving off the coast of Florida and up the east coast. That was what it looked liked at noon. Idk what it looks like now.

Thinking about it, a nightmare scenario is Irma heading straight for Florida without touching Cuba, then Jose taking a track north of the Leeward Islands, and heading straight toward Florida. It could potentially be back-to-back Cat 4s hitting the panhandle.
This is actually fueling the conspiracy theories of someone I know. They claim Russia has weather controlling machines and Putin is sending a message to Trump.
I've had a conspiracy theory or two in my lifetime, but saying weather machines are sending hurricanes is only slightly less ridiculous than saying god is sending them in response to the "gay epidemic."
Gotcha. The last "most reliable" track I viewed literally had the eye splitting Florida down the middle. But I have seen tracks that take it north to SC before US landfall.
What I saw is that Jose is a potential Cat 3 by the time it might hit the Leeward Islands. Obviously, that's less powerful than Irma at the point of impact, but post-Irma it could be just as devastating.

You need some new friends. Haha.
Jose is predicted to curve out harmlessly to sea.
I'm quite sure that isn't true and you are a complete dumbass.
This is crazy, watch the end, wow. This was Irma in Antigua or Barbuda......

I'm definitely probably going to be murdered by this stormGet the freak out of there. Seriously.
This is crazy, watch the end, wow. This was Irma in Antigua or Barbuda......That either looked like they were initially in the eye and the eye wall came around or a tornado or something. Dumbasses driving in it. It went from just windy to "gaddamn" in about 2 seconds.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=798HpjwrFqY
I didn't even know Barbuda existed until this happened. Now it no longer exists. Funny.
Well..... not really funny.
I'm definitely probably going to be murdered by this storm
It sucks a big one for all those people but the one that got missed has a ton more people, right?
This thing is utterly awful. Miami is in trouble.
This storm is bigger than Andrew. Check out the image in this tweet showing the actual size comparison. It's unreal. https://twitter.com/Coeurdelion87/status/905895937888976897 (https://twitter.com/Coeurdelion87/status/905895937888976897)

Likely going to continue to shift west and end up in the Gulf of Mexico.
So you know where a 400 mile wide storm is going to go?
This thing is utterly awful. Miami is in trouble. The sheer size of the storm is problematic to say the least, but Andrew had serious velocity moving west. Irma is a slow churner at the moment. That means less structural damage, but immense flooding.

Likely going to continue to shift west and end up in the Gulf of Mexico. This would be the absolute worst case scenario. If this thing gets into the gulf, it could get back to 185 mph or more. Then you would be looking at another, bigger, stronger, Katrina.
If the track im looking at here at work stays correct the entire Western coast of Florida is fucked.
It's been strengthening since it stopped interacting with Cuba. The water it's over now is warmer than a kiddie pool filled with pee.
True, but the Hurricane expert types are saying that there is an area (trough?) to the west with wind shear that will be chipping away at the storm, so it will probably start to weaken slowly from here out despite the warm waters.

It already skull fucked the keys and will hit the west coast of florida as a cat 4.
I was just told this storm is now a cat 2?
I was just told this storm is now a cat 2?
Hurricane Jose next. Please wake me when this hurricane season is over.
Unless it changes massively Jose is going to loop around in the Atlantic and maybe create some storms on the east coast but it shouldn't hit anything badly.I saw most models have it ots, but a few brush close to Montauk/Cape Cod and one even brushes the OBX. You never know with these tropical systems, I still get the shudders from Sandy.

Has anyone seen what the damage to Florida has been? I haven't had the chance to really look yet.
All the people I am speaking with are saying it's pretty bad down there. No power, curfews, lots of damage and crap. The lower SW coast was taking gusts over 140mph and the Miami/FT. Lauderdale area was getting continual 100mph winds. Flood surge in Jacksonville and Savannah reached record height nowhere near Irma's eye. Orlando took near 100mph winds. The media goes on about how "Florida dodged a bullet."

Was it as catastrophic as forecasted? No. The interaction with Cuba's mountainous north coast helped immensely and the the more inland track saved Tampa/St. Pete from storm surge. Did Florida dodge a bullet though? No, not really. That Naples/Marco Island area is fucked and god knows what happened in the Keys.
They're showing videos Mike Theiss from the Weather Channel took (he was in the Keys) and all I have to say is holy excrement.

Sad!
Inb4 puck cries and then acts like he’s too tough to let the weather get to him but we all really know how deeply it affects him.Puck lives here now so I'm sure he'll pop in and talk about doing snow angels in his skiives or whatever the word is he uses.

What are yall supposed to get tomorrow? The reports are all over the place here but it’s going to be ugly.
Have you guys got a bunch of snow on the ground already?
Currently 65 and blue skies here.

Serious: I know we bust each others balls but tomorrow is going to suck, I have to drive my friend that just got a bone marrow transplant (he has leukemia) into Sloan-Kettering. He needs a blood transfusion and a bunch of other stuff so it can't be canceled.
Stay safe guys and go freak yourselves.
A couple light storms last week that weren’t a big deal, but it’s been zero degrees here so it hasn’t melted at all. Roads are fine but there’s ice and snow everywhere else.
Good luck to your friend.
You, on the other hand, are a pansy.
At least tomorrow isn't building on a big base then. We've got about a foot on the ground but it doesn't look like we're getting your storm. In fact, we're going to be getting above freezing on Sunday/Monday if the forecast is to be believed.
I am now naked in the window sunning myself in 20 degree weather beat that bitch.
the layer of hair that covers your body means you're not really naked, Chewbacca.
I'm gonna have sex with the snow.
Tommy?
The snow melted before he could get it up.
oh....real snow.
I thought it was a metaphor for cocaine.

All jokes aside, be careful and safe travels, and best wishes to your friend.
That was a total excrement show. We started at 545 and got to the Nassau/Suffolk border at 7, he called it, said it's not worth killing ourselves, hopefully he can his treatments tomorrow.Sorry to hear your buddy couldn't make it in. Still can't believe he's going through all that.
The roads are brutal, absolutely brutal, stay home guys, it's very dangerous. There were at least 3 cars that totally spun out right in front of us. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad going east as it was going west.
US winter storm latest:
- Thirteen states from South Carolina to Maine are under a winter storm warning
- Forecasters say Northeast states will see hurricane-force winds
- By the end of this week, parts of the Northeast will be colder than Mars
Sorry to hear your buddy couldn't make it in. Still can't believe he's going through all that.
I'm still on the fence about going in. I have a ride to and from the station, the question is whether or not it's worth burning a day and whether or not they'll shut the trains down.
I'm an idiot. I made my way in. I'm leaving early though. This idea that New Yorkers are tough and can get through anything is stupid. It's dangerous outside, and I have to make my way home later. The worst is, I could easily work from home and do all of my job, but my company has a strict no-remote-work policy (though once a month I have to log in at night to close the accounting books and no one has a problem with that). So instead, I'm sitting here posting on JO.
I had to drive in this morning. Once I got off the local streets, it wasn't that bad. Main roads were at least scraped. Still snowing here, probably will end up with about 8 inches or so. Oddly enough most of the vehicles in ditches were big Bubba trucks. I guess they were trying to be Billy Badass and slid off the road. I waved at them as I puttered past them in my gay-derriere Prius.
Get home safe the roads suck, I need people to make fun of and you two assholes are part and parcel to that. So stay safe and freak off.
Sitting at home enjoying my paid snow day. Organized labor is awesome. This is because you love freeloading and libtards and killing babies and rape, amd hate freedom and guns and God and Trump.
This is because you love freeloading and libtards and killing babies and rape, amd hate freedom and guns and God and Trump.
After the bomb cyclone or whatever the freak it was, tomorrow it will be 56 degrees and rain for 1.5 days straight. Flood warning issued for the entire state. Then it's gonna be in the 20s again and then it's supposed to snow again on Tuesday. Awesome.
Started as freezing rain.
I call shenanigans on this. Freezing rain =/= a bit chilly and raining. Freezing rain forms ice on contact because sustained low temperatures reduce the surfaces on which the rain is landing to below freezing, and it's absolutely freaking hideous.
Yeah but can you tell me the difference between sleet and freezing rain?Sleet has a higher QBR.

Whatever it was was bouncing when it hit. When systems come from the west over the mountain, normal rules don't necessarily apply.

Kind of wish it was a snow storm. Would have got me out of seeing Katy Perry tonight. Unless there are nonstop shots of her boobs on the big screens... Wait, I'm good.
Sounds very much like hail, which is little (or occasionally massive) pieces of ice pretending to be rain. Hail is excrement.Really didn't get much boobs, and I don't care how much excrement I get for it, but her concert was amazing.
Sleet is a mix between snow and rain, when the temperature is just a little too warm for snow so it comes down like soggy little poopchute bits of snow. Sleet is also excrement.
Boobs, though. Boobs are good. Especially Perry boobs.
Really didn't get much boobs, and I don't care how much excrement I get for it, but her concert was amazing.I stopped reading after "didn't get much boobs".
Free VIP is free VIP. It was like a Cirque show, her voice is amazing, and left shark was there. She did a make a wish thing for a little girl. Played for like 3 hours. Still don't love her music, but she made a new fan.
I stopped reading after "didn't get much boobs".
Did the VIP deal include free food? No, just gets you up to club Hyde. Most of our drinks were free though.

I'll allow it.Bon Jovi, U2, Journey and Def Leppard coming in the next few months. I'll have to take a bullet with Pink in there, but not complaining. Hope this guy keeps his job.

Seriously, Puck. Take your derriere back to Florida. This excrement only started when you came up here.
Snow >>> 34 degree rain
Veto.
You don't have to shovel 34-degree rain.
My rule is that if I have to shovel, I’m working from home. Can’t risk hazardous travel conditions.
we're in the middle of a minor cold snap, and it's supposed to be like this until the end of April. Guess I'm not golfing until the middle of May.
It’s snowing again
The constant bitching is over until it starts to rain a little. Time to start making guesses for when Tit Monday will be.
The constant bitching will never stop as long as I'm here, bitching.

Lol.
I heard the car broke down and he had to carry it on his shoulders for the last 100 miles of desert. He would have made it sooner, but he had to stop and perform surgery on his own knee atop a sand dune with an ancient piece of flint he found in the Valley of the Kings. He duct taped it up afterwards and strode on like a boss.
Looks like I should start paying attention to this hurricane. Gonna fire up the old generator and hope it still works.
It's looking kinda scary for the coast.I've never been through more than a category 1, and even that was no fun. Any more than that and I'm gonna GTFO.

How far inland are you?
Hopefully the track takes it to SC or GA. Looks that way, but you never know.
Hopefully the track takes it back into the ocean and it doesn’t hit anyone.I think hope is lost on it going back out to sea. It's a matter where it hits.
If it heads for SC, my mom will probably come here which will be annoying as hell.
Have Johnny English house sit for youHe doesn't have the mass to withstand that kind of wind speed.
He doesn't have the mass to withstand that kind of wind speed.JE may be trying to set the wind-assisted marathon world record.
Roughly 40 miles
That's definitely not far enough inland to be safe from the winds, but you are probably safe from the storm surge unless you're near a river.Yeah. Not worried about flooding beyond typical yard ponding. I'm too high up for that even though near rivers.
This looks really bad for the southeast coast. The whole SC coast has been ordered to evacuate. They are reversing lanes of I-26 and US 501 so all traffic is able to GTFO.
Charleston has a mandatory evacuation scheduled starting tomorrow.
The whole SC coast has been ordered to evacuate. They are reversing lanes of I-26 and US 501 so all traffic is able to GTFO.
Southern Outer Banks evacuating also. Northern Outer Banks tomorrow.
I'm a little west of Virginia Beach. I think we will avoid the bad part of the winds ( I think), but I'm more worried about the amount of rain we may get. Already saturated here. We are likely to have lots and lots of trees falling everywhere with any decent winds. If things stay as they are for the next 24 hours, I'll stay here.
Wilmington is going to get freaking wrecked. Hurricanes are not a new thing around here, but nothing like this.
My work buddy has a trip to Charleston scheduled for next Thursday, ouchI'm supposed to have a work conference in the Outer Banks next Friday. I called about it and they said as long as there wasn't a mandatory evacuation still going on at that point we were going to have the conference anyway. Billy Badass down there......

Apparently it's expected to stall at the coastline, which will create bigger flooding issues. Is that normal behaviour for a hurricane or is this one just being a particular queynte? I confess to knowing next to nothing about hurricanes other than I don't want to live anywhere near where they happen.

This is pretty rare. Florence is like the third storm EVER to hit land from where the system originated.

hopefully it keeps getting downgraded.Yeah, I think it's about as strong as it's going to be now. Probably doesn't matter much anymore. The size of it and the fact that it's gonna sit still for 2-3 days is the problem.
“The taps are unlimited,” Grady, 28, told The Daily Beast. “I’ll be drinking IPA all night.”
A shirtless man disregarded warnings from local authorities and walked out to a street in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Friday morning to stare down a powerful hurricane -- for the third time.
Despite officials urging evacuations or, at the least, safely battening down the hatches at home, Lane Pittman was captured on film holding an American flag while headbanging to heavy metal music as Florence’s 85 mph winds and rain pelted him.
"Just being free and American. I don't let nothing oppress me, especially no dang, freaking hurricane," he told Fox Business Network reporter Kristina Partsinevelos, who caught up with him after his stunt...as he tried to fix a flat tire.
When asked if he was doing this to go viral, he responded: “I’ve already been viral.”
Pittman, who is from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, became Internet famous in 2015 after Fox News wrote about Neptune Beach Police issuing Pittman a citation for breaching the peace when he played a raucous guitar rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” -- and a verse of Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold" -- during a July 4 celebration.
His pride in the American flag carried over to 2016, when he stared down Category 2 Hurricane Matthew without a shirt on and while holding the flag -- headbanging the entire time to Slayer hit “Raining Blood.” His ginger locks flowed behind him in the fierce winds that, at times, reached 40 mph.
“Had a request for some hair action during the ‘cane. I granted it,” he wrote on Facebook at the time in a post that has been viewed more than 27 million times.
Pittman returned for Hurricane Irma last year, posting a video showing him again jamming out to heavy metal music on the beach and holding the American flag.
This year, Pittman started a GoFundMe page to pay for gas and coffee as he drove from Florida to South Carolina. He raised $190 in less than a day.
Hurricane Florence made landfall as a powerful Category 1 storm at around 7:15 a.m. Friday morning, near Wrightsville Beach, N.C. A few hours after landfall, forecasters said the hurricane was slowly making its way south along the coast with sustained winds of 80 mph.
No way. I hate snow more than almost anything. I'll take rain any time over snow. You are wrong.
Cold rain is far and away the freaking worst. One of the worst experiences of my life was the home game against Denver years back where it was high 30s and pissing rain/wind2008. freak that game.
I don't go to games, so I don't care what the weather is.
I hate snow. Period.
You don't what snow is
Bullshit.
My one visit ever to Canada it was negative degrees and I drove home from Toronto in a blizzard (literally). I was up there for training, and had to get back.
And I was in a rental Pontiac Grand Prix.
lol Toronto...they're a bunch of lightweights.
Winnipeg turns into planet Hoth for 3-4 months of the year.
Why are you dickwaving over snow? It's not a source of pride.

Puck tans in that weather
halp!
Puck tans in that weather
As if I need anything else to complain about, that thunderstorm that blew through LI last Thursday did some pretty significant damage to my house. We had a tree come down on my house, put a hole in my roof and then bounce off and destroy my porch and stoop and even manage to smash my car windshield. We had 3 really strong gusts, I actually saw the second gust pick everything off the ground (destroy my barbecue and outdoor bar/gazebo in the process) and generally just scare the excrement out us. We had to wake the kids up, and grab the dog and run into the basement. Everything started really going, thank god, once we were down there.
Importantly, no one got hurt and we are insured so thank God, it could have been a lot worse. Crazy what Mother Nature can do with the snap of her fingers.
Hopefully you have home insurance. It's mandatory up here.Yeah, we’re good on that end.
Yeah, we’re good on that end.
Damn man, glad y'all are ok.Yep. Most important thing, by far.
Yeah, we’re good on that end.

This storm is gonna be bad. I'm just hoping it doesn't hit land and slow down like Harvey did. Houston floods so easily. The only good thing is that it's moving quickly and will continue to do so, unlike Harvey.

The downside of teleworking is that I'll probably have to still work tomorrow.
No driving though so that's a good thing. Meanwhile everyone and their uncle are panic buying.
Hey honey what food do we need for the storm?
Well since we're going to be buried in snow until June,

Cold rain here. Ugh.Hahah too bad 4 u
i absolutely hate philadelphia, this city is derriere backwards.
we've known about this storm for over a week, they've had 6 hours of snow now to do something about the streets and literally nothing has been done. i literally drive down the main road in the fvckin city which is broad street to go home, and it was a fvcking mess.
it took 30 minutes to get home because of the other slow fvcks that don't know how to navigate a flat, level road in the snow, and during that time i did not see one plow actually plowing the roads. i saw about 10 plows driving by with their plows up not doing a goddamn thing. i guess that's what they're being paid for, to fashion a plow to the front of their trucks and lolligag around the city during a snow storm
40" is a stupid amount of snow.
Yeah 40 inches and we will be swamped with hero stories about a family was trapped alone in the house with 6 months worth of groceries and had to sacrifice because they couldn't drive for 3 days. I am ok with never having to hear those horror stories.
40" is a stupid amount of snow.

Well, at least it's getting a good rinsing.Where I was it looked like an insane amount of rain in a very short window of time - I guess those places didn't have the infrastructure that could handle that much all at once.
Seriously, is this storm really worse than anything in recent memory? I hadn't heard anything about it ahead of time, but it sure as hell doesn't flood that bad normally. That looks like Sandy.

My current neighborhood used to be known for flooding in these exact scenarios. They just finished digging the upgraded drainage line in May.Perk of living near the cemetery - they made sure this spot wasn't prone to flooding. There's one particular underpass in my neighborhood that's poorly designed but it's far enough away from me and avoidable.

It’s rained almost every day here since a couple days before 4th of July. Heavy rains, torrential downpours, thunderstorms, all day rains. Everything. Supposed to get 2.5 inches more from last night into today.

Was 70 last night here. Supposed to snow tomorrow.
Supposedly we're set for 4-8 inches of snow tomorrow. Fenrir will love this.

Lol...thats a light dusting up hereHasn't started in Eastern VA yet, just rain. Gonna get maybe 2 inches, just like Puck's lady. I'll show myself out.

Hasn't started in Eastern VA yet, just rain.
My niece is northwest of Richmond and they've got snow over there. She works at a nursing home and apparently ambulances aren't able to get there right now.If 1 flake falls around here, everything implodes and cancels. It's embarrassing.
NYC ends up with 0 snow. Looks like it just missed us to the south. Long Island might get a dusting in 2 hrs.
I'm not far from Richmond, and these mother freaking Cunts down here are the absolute worst.
Literally zero freaking pretreat on the roads no salt no sand. 8-13 inches, highways completely untouched by pavers. Ambulances and EMS can't get anywhere, had an 18 wheeler freaking slosh out and fall sideways like 10 minutes ahead of me on the highway almost completely blocking the road.
Literally the worst excrement I've ever driven in in my life. Not because the weather (was bad but not the worst) but because nobody has a freaking clue what they're doing down here.
Then dealing with the excrement head drivers, makes it all the worse. Since nobody knows what to do in snow. Widespread power outages, no backups for street lights traffic cameras etc. People using the excuse that the gas stations have no power so the plows can't work
The second I graduate I'm getting as freaking far away as humanly possible from this abyss.

WTF those roads are clear? Why are they stuck?
WTF those roads are clear? Why are they stuck? Some 18 wheelers crashed and blocked things during the storm. Not sure why they are still backed up except that the south is notoriously terrible at snow prep.
WTF those roads are clear? Why are they stuck?
i'm assuming black ice?
This seemed to be a perfect storm (no pun intended) of events. This area and many others in the south are woefully unprepared for weather like this. Add to that several 18 wheelers that crashed during the storm, preventing cars from getting passed it, many cars ran out of gas and were stuck, and our smaller # of snow plows/sand trucks from getting to the roads in that area, it was a mess. Some of it is poor infrastructure (snow equipment) and some was bad timing.
This is like straight up freaking 3rd world country excrement.
There's like 350k people without power where I am.
I was told I probably won't have power until the 7th. My apartment is 42 degrees (thank God I don't own this excrement, their pipes are all about to be fucked)
Entering my apartment building is like a zombie movie. Their backup generators (for hallway lights only) went down in under an hour. So hallways are complete dark, and if you don't have a flashlight you're completely fucked.
This is such ridiculously excrement part of the country. They normally lose freaking power when it rains, but this no power for a week excrement is cracked out
You'll be alright. More time for cap analysis.
No idea why you would lose power in just rain unless it was a thunderstorm. That's kind of ghetto. As for cold weather, we get a lot of freezing rain when we get winter storms here. It weighs down the trees and snaps power lines when they fall over or limbs break. It is what it is. Just learn to enjoy the hysteria and drink more beer.
i'm sure the weather and cleanup conditions are bad there right now and have caused said video, but that video doesn't look much different than the way the northern VA area looks on any given day during rush hour on I-95 and the balt-wash parkway LOLIt all changes when you don't have the cold weather infrastructure to prepare and deal with snow and ice. NY would have the same issues if you suddenly cut their snow equipment by 50-75%

We're supposed to have twice that by the end of today. I was bracing myself to go and shovel about half an hour ago when my wife stuck her head round my office door and told me that John from over the road was busy clearing our driveway with his snowblower. That's definitely deserving of a six pack next time I see him.

So I shoveled for over an hour with a bum shoulder (dislocated and tore my labrum) no complaints really, it was fun to get some semblance of exercise after 3 months of doing nothing but PT. Anyhow, I am digging my freaking car out and this jeep poopchute who is too lazy or broke to get and use a freaking shovel, is with his white trash GF eyeballing my spot I just dug out. I went inside to shower and change. She got out of the passenger side to read the orange cones I put down. Hey freak you, if I shovel a spot for an hour and half, it was really plowed in, I expect to keep that spot for a day or so.
Anyhow, I put up the following sign right in front of the bitch, I was going to ask if they wanted to borrow the shovel but frankly freak them.
"Please do not park here, asking out of common courtesy, I spent over an hour shoveling and will be happy to spend another hour putting it all back should the courtesy not be extended, if you catch my drift. (pun intended) Thank you, signed my name and apartment #." - To show how serious I was.
The super approved of my sign and was laughing, excrement he gave me the orange cones........I am pretty sure the poopchute threw my sign, but they didn't park there. I had my spot when I got back 5 hours later.
Puck's vehicle should be covered in mint soon.

CHICAGO, July 26 (Reuters) - Top U.S. cattle feeding companies sent 1,000-pound carcasses to a Kansas landfill, where they were flattened by loader machines and mixed with trash, after a June heatwave killed thousands of cows, documents seen by Reuters show.
Other cattle were buried in unlined graves, a feeding company said.
Neither is a typical method for disposing of bodies. But so many cows died in the unusual heat and humidity that facilities that normally convert carcasses into pet food and fertilizer products were overwhelmed, prompting the state government and cattle feeders to take emergency measures.
