Will Anderson and Isaiah Foskey are the best prospects in 2023.

If we're picking 3rd or 4th overall then something went very badly wrong.

We traded a fifth to move up for Breece Hall.  PFF doesn't think we'll win a game.

Based on our preseason Vegas win total (5.5), we have tied for the 2nd-lowest win total in the NFL. Really, it's 3rd lowest because Atlanta is closer to 5, and we are closer to 6.

I expect most way-too-early mocks to have us in the top 5.

In a related note, I am pretty invested in over 5.5 wins.

Only the Jets could go 0-17 and still draft 4th overall.

Exactly, haha. Jobs will be on the line if that's the case.

2023 mock drafts are about as useful as 2063 mock drafts. But it's all in good fun. Hey, it's football-related content!
Bryce Young and Will Anderson seem like the main candidates to be top 5 picks, but who knows.

My 2023 Top 5:

Will Anderson - EDGE - Alabama
Isaiah Foskey - EDGE - Notre Dame
Jalen Carter - DL - Georgia
Tyler Van Dyke - QB - Miami(FL)
Jaxon Smith-Njigba - WR - Ohio State

(This will likely be completely different next spring)

I have a hard time seeing Anderson not as a top 5 guy and JSN/Jalen Carter not as top 10 guys. Everything else feels up in the air

Phil Jurkovec

Yes.  He would've been a Top 15 pick in this draft had he not been hurt, but I think his injury history pushes him into the mid-rounds in 2023.

Tons of hype about the quarterbacks in next year's draft. Some of those guys will fall off, but I assume a lot of quarterbacks will go early next year.

Yeah I noticed these mocks had like 5 QBs going in round 1. Part of that is presumptive on the part of the authors, but we very likely could see some kind of bump due to a number of borderline-QB-needy teams deferring on the 2022 class.

I think we need to keep loading up at edge. Lawson might not be back next year, and even if he is, he's an FA a year later.

He and JFM are guys I expect Douglas to go to with an intent to renegotiate deals with, lowering their cap hit next year and adding a few guaranteed dollars in 2024 and adding a couple void years. Both are productive and valuable, but not at their current price and we need to get some money back to allow us to continue to add a few valuable FA pieces likely along the OL and at WR, but potentially at S as well.

We need defensive tackles over edges.  We've got Clemons, JJ, and JFM under contract, as well as Lawson whom I agree may be a cap casualty.  Thomas, Rankins, and Shepherd all walk in 2023.  Quinnen Williams is the only tackle we have under contract next season.

Throw all the money at Shepherd, no way we can let him walk.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we throw a big contract at a defensive tackle early in FA.

We should extend Bryce Huff too.  Retain homegrown talent.

I'll be content with Paris Johnson, Anton Harrison, or Darnell Wright.  I think Wright is a Day 1 starter at right tackle.

Johnson and Harrison are left tackles so the more premium position, but Wright is a safer pick.

13. NEW YORK JETS: OT PETER SKORONSKI, NORTHWESTERN

Skoronski is the highest-floor offensive lineman in the class. He would slot in nicely at right tackle for the Jets next season. The true junior allowed only six pressures on 474 pass-blocking snaps this past fall in his third season as Northwestern’s starting left tackle.

Ryan Day is one of the best in the business at finding ways to let his skill players run after the catch, but JSN is pretty exceptional.  He is an elite route runner and just always has a step (or steps, in most cases) on the defender.

I'm not as into any of the prospects because I didn't start caring about the draft until January. The price we pay for not being terrible for most of the season.

We'll ramp it up at the combine and start the hype.

It's not weak, just not flashy.  There are several elite defensive line prospects.

Wide receiver is underrated.

We need athletes on the OL.  Johnson is certainly that.  Jones and Wright are much safer picks.

JD seems to likes drafting athletes early (every first round pick besides Garrett Wilson has been >9 RAS - and the top two RAS guys we've taken in the first are AVT at a 9.79 RAS, and Becton a 9.85 RAS). I imagine if Johnson tests well and the other don't test nearly as well we'll lean more in his direction.

Broderick Jones should hopefully test similarly.

Darnell Wright, who we all seems to really like here, will probably have some pretty subpar testing numbers.

13. New York Jets
Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia

New York has to get better up front, specifically at offensive tackle. Lucky for them, perhaps the best tackle in the class falls right to their lap. Broderick Jones is a very good athlete and has excellent length. He is a powerful player in the run game and will be a day-one starter.

With the amount of tosses Downing called in Tennessee, I think we'll look to add a mover like Jones (if we have that #13 pick come draft day).

Hackett/Downing/Carter love the outside zone which Hall should thrive in, but we really need linemen that can move well and we need another back that can get downhill.

Depending on how the free agents land, I am fully prepared to jump on the AR bandwagon.

Top 15 prospect from DJ. Elite tools. And if you hit, then you have a QB under a rookie deal. I also think in 2023, you want the good athletes.

Do you really? If the dude needs to sit for 18-24 months and then needs a full season to get experience before he’s truly ready to lead a playoff team on a run, that’s 3 full seasons, and you have one cheap year left before his 5th year option and then a new contract is coming when he reaches what I’d like to call the Daniel Jones level from last year. Is that really getting a QB on a cheap rookie deal?

Burrow is a high quality QB on a cheap deal, Herbert is in the same boat, as is Lawrence. Sure you might have a starter but not a “real” QB capable of leading a team on a run if everyone projections about Anthony Richardson being a year away from being a year away are correct.

With the way we rotate players, it'd make sense.  I think his value has weakened because there's some really athletic interior DLs in this class, but he'd be a nice addition to our DL group.

We need a true run stopping force.

Baylor does a lot of really good things with run fits and he was a big part of that.

That's not the same as believing he can/will play left tackle.

I'm just curious because most places seem to project him as a right tackle and we need a long-term answer at left tackle.

Well if memory serves H believes in his movement skills so much that to me would indicate he’s got an LT future.

I think he’s a right tackle and he’s a very safe pick.

Douglas already took a swing on Becton.  It’s OK to be safe and boring with this pick.

Yeah, but right tackles are generally easier to find/cheaper to obtain so that's why I'd prefer to spend 13 on somebody we expect to play left tackle.
Title: Re: Assorted 2023 Mock Drafts

We're not picking up Becton's 5th year option so, even if he's healthy and balls out, I'm not sure what we're doing with him after this season. Max Mitchell looked like a potential starter at right tackle when he was healthy.

There's a lot of smoke that we're in love with Schmitz but he's apparently getting some 1st round buzz now so I'm not sure that we get him. Hopefully his age (24) and the fact that he's a center pushes him down to our pick.

I wouldn't be shocked if Joe dips into future draft picks to move back into the tail end of the first.  Difficult to predict before the Rodgers trade goes through, but every move he's made this off-season suggests that he's counting on this year to be THE year.

Yeah, I'd be really reluctant to give up future draft capital to move into the 1st round for a 24-year-old center unless we're certain that he's going to be an All-Pro.

Slot in Wright at RT. Then we've got Brown at LT, with Becton and AVT as depth. I don't hate it.

Edit: forgot about Mitchell too.

Or let Becton compete for either starting T job, then if he wins one you've either got Brown as depth or let Wright sit for a year.

He did start the entire ‘21 season as UT’s left tackle and was pretty outstanding there, as well. I do think he was dominant at RT this past season and I’m not in the business of messing with a great thing, but he could play the left side if he was still comfortable doing it. Adding Wright has the benefit of us plugging him immediately on the right side (cleaner than other OT options) and leaving the LT spot to a Brown-Becton battle.

Overall, he’s definitely my top OT. The more I watch him, the less downside I see. He’s awesome.

Depends on your definition of “worked” I’m sure they made a bunch of money and clearly decided to cash in. Did it work in terms of making their site better and consumers happy? Not a chance.

But since when has PFF ever cared about their product or their consumers opinions

Here's my post Free Agency 7 round mock draft for the Jets...with 2 trades

Trade 1 - 13th pick/4th rounder to the Bucs for pick 19 and Tampa's 2024 1st rounder.  Would be nice to go into 2024 with 2 first round picks, and Tampa sucks so i expect it to be valuable in 2024.

Trade 2- 19th pick to the Giants for pick 25 and pick 57.

While I like the first four players you add, and getting a 1 next year, I don’t foresee any of it as reasonable. If we really are in “go for it all” mode, which I believe we are, the only one of your top picks I’d expect to play right away in spades is Bresee.

Torrence will sit behind AVT and Laken, Simpson will play, but rotate with Moseley, Tua will play and be a big part of the rotation, but both he and Bresee won’t be major immediate contributors.

If this is the draft to to set us up to “go for it all” I don’t think it gets it done. This is the year our squad will go for need over BPA unless the BPA is miles ahead on our board. At least thats what I expect.

I do think he Bucs are a great trade down option for us though. The Commanders, Bucs and Chargers are the three teams I see as most likely to trade with us if we don’t like the value at 13 and try to move back.

Unsure we'll have this many picks after the Rodgers deal finally goes through.

No qualms with any of the players (especially without seeing the board).  You know how I feel about Bresee.  He's criminally underrated right now and that'd be an awesome spot to land a player with his potential.

Simpson would give our linebacking corps some serious speed.  He'd give us some WTF moments early because he's a bit slow to diagnose but plays very fast (kind of like Lil Quincy).

Torrence that late is potentially a pipedream, but he's a lineman that I feel can play guard or tackle.  That's the kind of player JD values.  "The Best 5" mentality.

Tuli is one of my favorite players in the class, but I feel he'll go much higher.  I think he's more of a inside-out run defender more than an edge.  He'll get after the QB but he's better off bulking up and anchoring.

McIntosh is fine, not a lot of wear and tear.  Duggan is fine that late and we've shown interest in him.

---

I think we're likely going to end up with Ben Jones or the return of McGovern.  It'd be nice to get Schmitz, but we might be out of range for him and everybody knows we'll be targeting him in the second too.

If you browse our visits list, we've worked out a lot of developmental linemen.  We might look to run it back with a vet and then hope someone sticks as developmental backup that transitions into the starting role in 2024.

Schrager's first mock. He put a disclaimer at the top of the article saying that this isn't what he would do, but based the picks on what he's hearing from around the league.

13. Broderick Jones

"I am not sure if Aaron Rodgers will be the Jets' quarterback by the time they are on the clock, but either way, I don't see this pick going to Green Bay. I do see the Jets addressing the offensive line, one of the team's biggest needs after injuries riddled the unit a year ago. Teams appear to be split on whether Jones, Skoronski or Paris Johnson Jr. will be the first O-lineman taken. "

if i had to guess based off the little that i know, i'd think that the team is honing in on either jones or PJJ

jones -- a guy that can sit behind duane brown to continue developing before ultimately slotting in as our LT of the future, with one of becton / mitchell winning the RT job

PJJ -- big, athletic, added versatility in being able to play either tackle / guard, and has played on both sides of the line. with how we used AVT last year, I think JD would be really intrigued by the flexibility he offers. can either play him at tackle, or move him to guard with AVT taking one of the tackle spots if the team feels that's the best way to go. for similar reasons i think JD would like how we could use wright in this way as well.

i guess you could also say skoronski has T/G versatility, though with him it seems that's because most think he profiles more as a guard at the next level

Agreed, ‘DB’ should mean safety (bama/a&m/illini)

traded back with Tampa...13 and 112 for 19 and 50.

I want to hate it because first round running back but I'd be happy with it even without Bijan.

If we get get a starter at C and either OT or DT next week, the draft gets an A from me.   All three?  Watch the freak out.

Darnell Wright’s still there at #42?

Ok, then let’s get OL crazy/stupid and grab O’Cyrus T. at #19.  :-)

I'm convinced JD needs to trade back from 13. Drop to the late teens and pick up a third 2nd rounder.

The only problem is that this is a excrement draft, who is trading up and why? Maybe jump the pats for a corner?

Depends how the board falls....anything can happen.

I think 13 is about the point where one of the QBs could fall to and someone will feel like it's a leap worth making. Thinking most likely Levis or Richardson.

To me, it depends how much they want an OT at 13 (and how much they want the top OTs).

I think we're in a sweet spot to get one of the top OT at 13. If we drop down much, we probably aren't getting one of the top guys.

If they have different rankings for the OT board, or if they want another position, then trading down makes a lot of sense.

It seems pretty obvious we want to draft a center somewhere in the 20-45 range. Likely, we either need to trade down from 13, trade up from 42, or settle for the non-premium option.

Traded back with the Chargers for 21 and 54

21 - Bijan Robinson
42 - Zay Flowers
43 - John Michael Schmitz
54 - Sydney Brown
112 - Demarvion Overshown
143 - Colby Wooden
207 - DeWayne Mcbride

I know it’s obviously unrealistic… but I think I got 3 day one starters in the second round to go with the most dynamic player in the draft (who would split time with Breece) and 2 key contributors in the rotation in Overshown and Wooden. I don’t think you can really do much better for improving this team with just one trade in the draft. Sure we don’t get the tackle, but everything else is pretty damn awesome.

I don't know anything about anyone after round 2, so I won't be too critical. I don't really like drafting a fullback, but that's about it.

An OT at 13 and Schmitz at 42 is a win for me.

Yeah I find it hard to care enough about the day 3 picks to outweigh securing Rodgers and two OL starters.

I really don't see how Schmitz falls past Seattle at 37 and Tennessee at 41 and it's entirely possible both Schmitz and Tippman/C2 go in those spots, if not sooner.  Spend a Day 3 pick and go get the guy.

My favorite prospect-team fit in Round 6: Hunter Luepke, FB, North Dakota State to the 49ers at No. 216. As one of the few teams in the NFL that routinely uses a fullback, the 49ers can get the draft's best at the position. Luepke is a runner, receiver and lead blocker, and he is very similar to what the 49ers' have in Kyle Juszczyk -- who is 33 years old this season.

Emphasis mine. I don't know these players but his logic is somewhat flawed.

This probably says more about me than it does about the player but I can't even remember the name of the center we were all obsessing over last year.

I like Luepke and this team absolutely needs a proper fullback.  However, it's almost always the case that good NFL fullbacks take years to develop and usually don't find their role until their second/third stops.

Man I want a fullback though.

Sure, but not really my point which was that he took a fullback for us at 207, took another one for the Niners ten picks later, and then congratulated them on getting the best fullback in the draft. Feels like there's something a bit screwy going on there...

So...with the Rodgers trade happening before the draft, it clearly affects our draft order and strategy.  So here's my post-Rodgers trade mock draft. My first priority was to swing a few trades to recoup some lost draft capital

1st trade - trade 15 to the Bucs for 19 and 50
2nd trade - trade 50 and 112 to the Colts for 79, 106 and the Colts 2024 2nd rounder
3rd trade - trade 106 to the Browns for pick 111 and 190

Don’t mind the trade down, but Van Ness is cheeks. If we go DL early, it would have to be on an interior player anyway.

Forbes is a stud. I know the weight thing is an issue right now, but he’s got length, he can fly, he’s super aggressive, and there’s no one better at playing the ball than he is in the class.

I’ve had him as a 1st rounder since the combine, thanks in large part to Sauce Gardner’s commentary putting my worries about weight at ease saying teams wouldn’t be as worried about weight as people think.
