Does Tindall's value jump because Dean is hurt?

Moving back a bit and getting another late third or early fourth would be cool with me.  With Dean's neck injury, RB and S could be the move.

Jalen Pitre is your QB in the secondary if you can get him.  He's probably the smartest defensive player in this draft class.

Dean is the only guy I’d be comfortable “guaranteeing” by sticking and picking. Anyone else I feel is worth trading back and getting extra picks for as theres a ton of prospects available to add.

My top guys in no order after Dean

Dean
Pitre
Brisker
Harris
Muma
Chenal
Tindall
Jurgens
Hall
Petit-Frere
Jones
Winfrey

Apparently it's a "pec" injury, not a neck injury.  I'm still drunk.

Say we pass on a position at 38, then you have to wonder who we can get later:

S - Kerby Joseph or Sterling Weatherford
RB - Pierre Strong
LB - Channing Tindall, Chad Muma, or Troy Andersen

Perrion Winfrey was a Top 30 visit.

Perrion Winfrey was a Top 30 visit.

This DT class is very weak, not much depth. Who of any kind of value can we get later?

I think if we really want to replace McGovern the pick is Jurgens, if we are comfortable riding with him another year, we will lean DT. I still think the value of Dean trumps everything if he’s healthy on any level

I think that's a very likely scenario. Most of the guys who I wanted to fall to round 2 have been taken, and the few that I thought were 1st-round picks play positions we've already filled. We could drop down and still find a safety, LB, OL, RB or DT later in the round.

I could see something like...
- 38 for 53, 92 and 171 with GB.
- 38 for 44 and 118 with CLE
- 38 and 146 for 51, 83 and 237 with PHI
- 38 for 55, 87, 201 and 244 with ARI

I would love some combination of Dean/Weatherford/Strong or Hall/Weatherford/Muma

If you don't get Leal or Winfrey, then you probably go for high RAS in the late rounds like we did with Jonathan Marshall last year.  It's not a strong group at all.

We don't have any picks in the 6th or 7th.

If Winfrey's there, I'll be pretty surprised if we don't take him just because of the drop off.  I do think the late run on safeties put some pressure on to take Pitre/Brisker.

Albert Breer
@AlbertBreer
A few things ahead of tonight ...

• Breece Hall's seen by many as the clear No. 1 at RB. Should hear his name soon.

• CBs Kyler Gordon (testing #'s) and Andrew Booth (medical) have their issues, but they should go soon.

• A DL—maybe Logan Hall or Travis Jones—for Tampa?

Also, lots of ?s on Georgia LB Nakobe Dean. It's straight forward. He had a laundry list of injuries in college (ankle, foot, shoulder, wrist). Pec/groin hurt before pro day (may need pec surgery post-rookie year). Knee has wear-and-tear.

And being smaller magnifies all that.

The DT class isn’t that bad. There’s 8 more guys out there that I’d be happy to get that will start going off the board before we get to that three pick swing around pick 100.

Like if Matthew Butler, Otitto Ogbonnia, or Phidarian Mathis is there, that’s a win. I also think a lot of people value Haskell Garrett as a 3rd round guy, and if he’s there, it’s a home run. I think he’s a mid 2nd guy at worst.

There are always guys who fall at this point. The question is do the Jets have some guys rated significantly ahead of others or not. If they do, you take them.

I think they wanted to trade back from Rd 2 last year, but they couldn't pass up Elijah Moore.

In my eyes, the biggest drop off from who we could get at the top of the 2nd to the bottom of the third is at LB because I don’t see Tindall or Anderson being there. I think a LB run is coming on the heels of Quay and Lloyd.

I’d be cool with waiting at RB and grabbing one of the UGA backs or Strong and OT for Diesch or someone like that.

McBride will go in the 60s I think. I’d be looking at TE at 101, 111 or 117. I expect Jelani Woods or Ruckert will be there. If so that might well be worth a swing

Leapfrogging Houston could make sense for that. Has to be a position they are worried about the Texans.

The problem is that it's hard to narrow down who the hell the Texans would need because it's everyone.

with dean's injury history already, and with his new post-season/pre-draft injuries as well as the possibility of pec surgery after this season (if all of that is actually true/corroborated), i don't see JD risking such a high 2nd rd pick and so much draft capital for this move up to draft a guy with that sort of questionable injury record coming in, as good a player as he is

i very well may be wrong however because i do not know excrement

I mean, it's true. We got a bad value on the draft chart. I figured with lacking any picks in Round 6 of 7 that we could squeeze out another pick back. It's not a huge deal, but it's right.

I don't love taking running backs early, but hard to complain about helping our offense like this, especially with a guy like Hall who is really good. We've added arguably the best WR, CB and RB in this class, and we got a top-15 player in Johnson at 26 at a position of need.

Great draft so far. Four starters.

JD did say his first four picks SHOULD all be starters, well yeah I believe he did that. And depending on the position he takes at 101 (also prime slot to trade down since we are “lacking” capital on day 3 now). But he could quite likely grab a LB or a S there that also starts day 1 for us.

Douglas has worked absurd magic, let’s just let him keep waving his magic wand and “force” a much more highly rated player to fall in our laps yet again

Both that they would be there and that they would succeed.

H was wondering about a few of our “30 visits” and wondering why we would waste those on guys that would almost certainly be UDFAs, perhaps this is why.

I will say that after doing my 7 round mock about 10 days ago, I HATE the late round prospects in this class. I don’t believe in the late round depth in this class at all. Mid-round 5 and I was taking guys I didn’t think should be drafted. So I’m all for moving up to secure your dudes. Nobody cares if the class is “small” if every guy produces. Our Idzik 12 class was a complete disaster. And at the end of it a 6 or 7 player class with 4 major contributors and a few role player/depth guys is worth far more to us

Everybody hates Malik.
But he gave that homeless guy a hat!
I saw Malik Willis at a grocery store in Virginia the other week. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off.

When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

And at the end of it a 6 or 7 player class with 4 major contributors and a few role player/depth guys is worth far more to us
Daniel Jeremiah the other day pretty much said 6th and 7th round picks are worthless this year, that they should just be used to trade up or for future picks.

We'd have to have a LOT of faith in our UDFA targets.

Both that they would be there and that they would succeed.
I’m ok with shrinking the draft class if it means getting another player that they really really like. They could always pick up a 7th as a toss in to guarantee they can add one of those guys.

Yea, I don't have a problem with it.

I just think in a draft with this weak of a back end they have to have a lot of faith that the guys they like will make it through.

He’s absolutely better than Skyy Moore. Pickens is just a totally different type of wideout and they might think he’d be redundant with Golladay.

Jeremiah said on Move the Sticks that the class is strong from ~25-130, and then is pretty weak afterwards. If JD feels similarly, makes sense to consolidate all of our picks to that range and then just grab UDFAs

i felt this when i read the reports about his pre-draft injuries earlier today (again, if these reports are actually corroborated and true), and was almost certain we wouldn't trade up to draft a guy with those sorts of questions surrounding him when we jumped up

if he truly tore his pec / groin and will need pec surgery after the season, and with his pre-existing injury history, and with him already being undersized / 5'11, and with all of this going on even before he takes a down in the nfl where the players who will be hitting him back are bigger/faster/stronger.....would you risk one of your 2nd round picks on this guy?

again i am likely wildly wrong here but my gut tells me that a guy like this, as good as he is, will be available in the third

If his injuries are bad, as they seem to be, Dean is going to slide. I wouldn’t be shocked if he drops to the 5th if he’s actually fucked by injury. I would take him in a red-shirt scenario in the 3rd without question. If they think he can play after getting healthy it’s absolutely worth it. Obviously different if they don’t think he ever will be.

But at some point his elite talent is worth the injury risk. I’m hoping he ends up being worth it right around pick 101

Part of it just that stopping the run is less important in the NFL in 2022. Linebacker and pure DT aren't as important when you're playing so much nickel and dime packages on defense, unless you can play every down at a high level.

Another weird thing about this draft, it’s gone weirdly chalk so far at defensive back. My top 8 corners and top 5 safeties are all picked and are the only DBs picked.

Like no random dude who had a great 40 and only played one season of D2 ball like occasionally pops into the 2nd.

Another weird thing about this draft, it’s gone weirdly chalk so far at defensive back. My top 8 corners and top 5 safeties are all picked and are the only DBs picked.

Like no random dude who had a great 40 and only played one season of D2 ball like occasionally pops into the 2nd.
The Patriots have only had 2 draft picks, give it time.

Oh I very much agree. If Ojabo can go 45 then Dean can absolutely go 101 for a redshirt year

approx 10-15 minutes ago. they announced he wanted to come out and celebrate with the fans. was given a hat and shook hands with goodell, then was interviewed on stage.

he said we tried to trade into the back end of the 1st round for him last night but were obviously unsuccessful. if true i guess this means JD was trying to get back in even after the JJ pick

Honestly 21 and 22 are going to be this generations version of 2006 and 2007. Except I think we already got more players in these two years than we did in 06 and 07 which resulted in our core 4, Nick and Brick, Harris and Revis

TREVON "CUT" WESCO

lmfao

since last night ive been thinking about how we could have gotten a mid round pick for mims at the trade deadline last year as opposed to the blunt derriere cut he's about to get from us soon

I guess JD wasn't kidding when he said he liked our linebackers.

Bit disappointed we didn't grab Tindall or Chenal, thought there was fine TE value later with guys like Kolar, vs the drop off now at LB, but meh

Brandon Smith is a LB to watch for one of those 4th rounders. His body type and skillset is a lot like Fred Warner, just underdeveloped.

I know we all keep wanting defense… JD and Saleh have made it clear Zach is the only priority.

In the last two drafts
AVT
Moore
Carter
Wilson
Hall
Ruckert

We are creating a young exciting offense that has potential to become something special. Now all we need is Zach to make strides this off-season and start looking like “The Guy.” And with all this young talent around him, he’s got every opportunity to do just that.

Top targets by position. *Update at pick 105

LBs
Smith

DTs
Winfrey

OL
Salyer
Tom
Lindstrom
Dietsch
Mitchell
Faalele

S
Sterling-Weatherford
Bell
McKinley

WR
Austin

We pick 5th tomorrow. I’d imagine OL and DT are the top candidates for picks 111 and 117.

Damone Clark could be interesting. I am always a fan of taking a chance of someone whose draft stock is dropping due to injury. It will suck to pick someone who will miss his rookie year, but last year's LBs (Safeties) we took did as well.

Nobody has ever looked more miserable to be anywhere than Dawn Aponte at the NFL Draft.
