If Wilson picks on the knack for controlling the short passing game while also able to consistently push the ball down the field, you get extremely high level quarterbacking. Likewise, White needs to be able to show that he can stretch the field a little bit so that the secondary isn't consistently crashing down on shorter routes

We gave him $3.5M. That's not a pure backup. That's a backup that you hope can compete for a starting job in a bad situation. GVR has been completely abysmal, and he wasn't good last year. And GVR makes $3.5M also, so theoretically, they're both signed to compete for the OG spot and may the best man win.
