I would assume this signals that it's time to start over and get a QB at 4. Depends on the price, but I'd expect he goes for something that doesn't make sense for us. But we should explore it, because adding Jones to our WR stable and giving Wilson a legit #1 WR (at least for a year or two) would be a damned nice present for the rookie. But if I was the Packers, I'd be giving up 29 without hesitation for Jones, which is why I can't see us being involved at all.
-
do not want
I'm sorry, but over the hill big name players are a specialty of ours. It seems almost too logical a move to not happen.
Also, I feel like Julio has probably looked after himself better than many and may well have 2 or 3 good years left in him. Suspect he would rather not go to a rebuild though.

or they take Pitts, and he becomes the new top target for Matt Ryan.
Jones is a piece of glass now.
-
The Falcons also have Calvin Ridley, who would be a #1 on most teams. If they take Pitts, Julio is out or they are gonna go all in one last time with Julio to try to knock off Brady.

But man, just think how happy you were when Frank Gore fell backwards for that first down. Great job by Sam Darnold and Frank Gore to pull that game out. Hopefully those building blocks can grow from that.

Over under on picks 1/2 being announced prior to the 8 min mark of their ten minutes?
Both teams will take nearly the entire clock because the NFL forces them to, even if the pick comes in Goodell will still wait till the end. Need to stall for the broadcasts

I agree honestly but I think they think they can get more commercials if you can get in one break per pick instead of getting the good ones in immediately

Burrow is gonna die

Miami just lost out on the two best skill players in the draft

I had bet on Chase going 5th because it seemed like everyone connected to them said Chase was the guy.
I think they should have taken Sewell. Chase is great, but if Sewell is great, give me the OT over the WR, especially given what happened to Burrow last year.

Yeah, Miami needed the skill player more than the tackle. I'm fine if they take Waddle or Smith. I don't think either is worthy of a top-6 pick, even if both are very good. Chase or Pitts would have been a problem.

It cost a 3rd-round pick to move up 2 picks, so moving up is going to be expensive. Granted, that's a divisional trade, and if Philly was desperate for Smith, they had some leverage.

Well well well...
Slater it is

So I guess the question is how much are we willing to give up to get AVT?
I could give up a 3 or one of our 2's next year to secure him and I would be OK with it. That probably won't be enough until we get to the late teens.
Not sure there's anyone else I would like to trade up for.

The #Jets traded No. 23, No. 66 and No. 86 for No. 14 and No. 143, sources tell
@TheAthletic
I'm fine with this, assuming we take someone who doesn't suck.
-
Did MB die? How is he missing this
He’s passed out drunk rn.
-
Time to trade down from 34

choked on a chicken wing

Here it is.....
-
I wonder if they really wanted Slater and had been talking about this pick for a while.
-
It is AVT
-
LFG!!!!!!
-
I know, and I don't want to be on Twitter for the Jets pick here. So it's just 2 minutes of blah.
That said, I would be shocked if it's not an OL.
ya, been off twitter to avoid tipping
-
Build that wall!
-
Yep. Had to be AVT. I'm good with this.
Granted, I've barely seen him play.

LFG Gord time baby

Great value on the trade
I'm so freaking happy right now
This is how it's done

Did anyone else see the Jets’ graphic read Jets Draft Mac Jones?
-
its gotta be mac jones. he looks drunk
-
I usually hate trading up, but we've built up enough draft capital for both this season and next season where I'm fine with this. And when you trade up, you want to get an elite guy at his position. AVT is that based on what I've heard. Fills need and value. That's how you do it when you do trade up.
-
Did anyone else see the Jets’ graphic read Jets Draft Mac Jones?
yes

OK, so this specifically is not evidence that I’m insane.

I was thinking maybe 23 + 34 for #14 and a Vikings 3rd. Similar idea, but this is better IF we get a trade down from #34 tomorrow night, which seems likely to be a possibility.
Or maybe we just grab Etienne at 34 and say freak it.
-
They better give him the Josh Gordon treatment.
-
mac jones looks like he has a stick up as poopchute. his posture bothers me. i hate mac jones

Patriots are drafting a QB at 15
Prediction: Patriots sign Alex Smith and draft Mac Jones at 15
Kiper has Mac Jones to the Patriots at 15. I can see that as a fit.

If our first two picks after drafting a QB are a guard and a weapon I’ll shut up about Douglas for a year.

Getting the 4th back helps lessen the sting
Exactly. I was fine giving up a 3. If I had to meet in the middle and drop 50 picks from 86, I can deal with that.
Having 34 eases the sting, too. You can double down on OL, or you can find an edge, or maybe someone slips out of the 1st round that you didn't expect would drop.
-
If we can get ETN or Harris at 34... I can only get so erect.
When they are both on the board, we trade back to 40 and still get Etienne AND get a 3rd back, your penis will get even more erect AND you will like it

Whack Jones amirite?

-
The most important thing after getting a QB was to protect him. JD made the move to do that. I wish we could have held a 3rd, but he ultimately traded 1 pick to get AVT (and traded down 50 slots too) but, he was the best interior OL in the draft, and we needed to get him after losing out on Thuney.
I still think a guy like Kendrick Green is an option later on as well, but it's not mandatory any longer.

AVT wasn't there and they panicked
-
Alex Leatherwood’s family is very happy.
-
Thats a lot higher than I would have gone for Leatherwood.
I'm much happier with AVT over leatherwood
-
And we have our answer as to who overdrafted first.
-
Mayock is so bad
-
Clelin Ferrell and Damon Arnette over the last couple years and now Leatherwood.
Such a strange set of guys going so early and nobody has lived up to it yet
-
Dolphins with Edge 1 I assume
-
Mayock always goes by his own board.
-
Mayock is so bad
I’d be willing to bet he uses PFF to make his Big Board
-
I love this draft so far
-
Welp, glad we took an offensive lineman. At least until his next concussion.
-
Is it wrong I want Becton to knock Phillips on his head one time?
-
has it really been 16 years since Miami had a DL selected in round 1?
-
These draft hats look like they are on clearance at a truck stop.
-
Mayock wants to score big on an overdraft more than he wants to build a good team.
-
Skins going to grab Owusu-Koromah perhaps?
-
I love this draft so far
Same. I really wanted AVT, and we got him, and the price is fair.
I do think Mac Jones is a very good prospect, but I'd rather him there than Fields. Waddle and Phillips could both be really good, but both have some bust potential for where they went.
-
Skins going to grab Owusu-Koromah perhaps?
We’re just never going to get the Kentucky LB that I want.
-
We’re just never going to get the Kentucky LB that I want.
Once we took AVT on that trade, Davis was never an option again
-
Kwity Paye in abject darkness right now.
-
Once we took AVT on that trade, Davis was never an option again
Now we just ride out round 1 and get excited about 34
-
Once we took AVT on that trade, Davis was never an option again
I was hoping there was an outside chance for him to slide to the top of the second.
-
Giants go grab Toney. Didn't see that coming
Colts should be Darrisaw wouldn't you think?
-
Bye Toney
-
I was hoping there was an outside chance for him to slide to the top of the second.
He could have, but we just couldn't go LB high without our 3rds any more. It's either gotta be a playmaker, a corner or another lineman
-
Lolol, well, it was pretty obvious the Giants were going to take Devonta Smith.
-
He could have, but we just couldn't go LB high without our 3rds any more. It's either gotta be a playmaker, a corner or another lineman
I’d rather have Davis than most of the other available corners but it’s a moot point now. Now I’m hoping for Harris or Etienne to make it to the second.
-
I wonder if Newsome goes here?
-
This live music excrement is old. I'm very ready to be done with this. It's probably great if you are there, but for those of us on the broadcast, just freaking pick the players. We've still got 10 picks to go
-
Bye Farley
-
WOW Titans took Farley. Vrabel is a gambler with injured guys. I would have guessed after Wilson busted so hard last year, they would have gone very 'safe' tonight
-
Newsome and Samuel likely the next 2 CBs up. Hopefully one still available at 34
-
Im sorry, was Farley wearing a freaking shoulder holster?

I’m going AVT because he’s a better player and it’s a bigger need
-

This makes up for not taking DDC.
-
Darrisaw and 2 3rds or AVT?
I’m going AVT because he’s a better player and it’s a bigger need
More importantly, both JD and Saleh WANTED AVT. Seeing them go nuts in the draft room when they made the trade and got him should tell you everything you need to know about how high on their board he was
-
Darrisaw and 2 3rds or AVT?
I’m going AVT because he’s a better player and it’s a bigger need
AVT for the reasons you said. Plus, with Becton entrenched at tackle, I like getting a more versatile player as our other building block on the OL.
-
Darrisaw and 2 3rds or AVT?
I’m going AVT because he’s a better player and it’s a bigger need
How do we know Minnesota wouldn’t have drafted Darrisaw at 14 if they couldn’t move back?
-
Will Buffalo take ETN? He's the only team between us with a need... Wouldn't love to see ETN in Buffalo.

Daaamn TLaw/ETN

Don't have to worry about that anymore.

That's a weird one. Robinson on the block?

Urban Meyer is a freaking idiot lol
-
Now that the top 2 guys are gone we can resume "running backs don't matter"
-
Glad someone else picked the RB so we didn't have to.
-
That's a weird one. Robinson on the block?
I doubt it. My guess is Meyer tries to do his version of Chubb and Hunt from Cleveland with ETN and Robinson
-
So I guess the Jets have to draft Dax Milne at 34 now

Newsome
Ojulari
Rousseau
Jenkins
Humphrey
Samuel

Add the Moore's (Elijah and Rondale) to your list. But I expect Jenkins, Newsome, Ojulari to go tonight, and one of the Moore's (Elijah).
34 we should be going hard for the trade back option IMO, find a way back in the 3rd.

I mean we still have two 4ths and 5ths, if JD wants into the 3rd he can package some picks. I know everyone wants a bunch of players, but maybe JD sees more value in using picks to move and get his guys.

Definitely move back from 34 for some combo of a 2 and 3 if at all possible

Bateman is still available too

It's an option for sure. But I just think the 'meat' of this draft is the 3rd round this year. Last year it was the 4th, this year is the 3rd. So in my head I want my 2 3's back. So trade back from 34 unless a guy who absolutely should NOT be on the board is there (like a Teven Jenkins?) and then get a 3, then turn around and trade back up into the 3rd as well.
-
We will have enough options where a trade down might be smart. 2nd pick in the 2nd round will probably get some offers.
OL
- Jenkins
- Dickerson
- Humphrey
- Radunz
- Mayfield
Edge
- Rousseau
- Ojulari
- Oweh
- Tryon
- Turner
WR
- Rondale Moore
- Elijah Moore
- Bateman
- Marshall
LB
- Owusu-Karamoah
- Collins
- Bolton
CB
- Samuel
-
I would not mind Rousseau if we stay put.
Also cross off Bateman.
-
Bateman is still available too
Bai
-
There goes Bateman. Then you can expect and edge at 31 IMO.

Those are the guys I'd expect to be top targets if they slide out of round 1.
If Owusu-Koramoah is still there at 34, I'd bet the Broncos come calling and move up from 40 to get him
-
I would add Dickerson, too, if you think he's healthy.
Owusu-Karamoah, Jenkins, Rousseau Ojulari, Humphrey and Dickerson are probably the only guys out there that I would prefer to a trade down (or at least view as equals). The other guys are guys that I'd be comfortable with a trade back.
-
JOK
Rousseau
Elijah Moore
-
theres your wtf pick. This reminds me of the Houston pick a couple years ago. This surprises me more than Leatherwood
-
JOK
Rousseau
Elijah Moore
I think I agree with that order. Ojulari on there, too.
We can get another OL later now that we've got one already, and I think those guys are better values than the OL. Even Jenkins.
-

Especially being the Saints. If it was the Titans, no one would care.

Packs been rumored to love Moore for like 3 weeks now. I'd be surprised if he's not the guy now

Elijah is who I was talking about. But yeah, they went DB

Heismanberg needs to keep his draft darlings to himself from now on. Last three Bills first rounders: Josh Allen, Ed Oliver, Greg Rousseau.
-
Glad Oweh is off the board. Not a risk I wanna take. Bucs took Joe Tryon to end the night.
Restack the big board boys, let's do it again tomorrow
-
Teven Jenkins. Do it.
-
Jenkins and Owusu-Karamoah, two guys I would have been very happy with at 23, are both out there. I'm fine with either. Same with Ojulari, pending medical issues. Also fine if they want to go with a WR like Elijah Moore. Trade down is also good.
-
freak that. I don't want to draft either potential BYU guy. UDFA? Sure, but I'm not drafting anybody

Two names to watch at 33 for the Jaguars: Alabama DL Christian Barmore and Georgia CB Tyson Campbell. Lots of good players left out there. Corner is definitely a spot to keep an eye on early.

Rap on NFLN reporting that we have the phone ringing off the hook.
Cowboys, Panthers, Falcons and more.
If we drop down with Atlanta (1 slot) we theoretically could trade back again if Dallas' guy is on the board. That would be a very interesting plan.
Atlanta might be after Javonte Williams, and Dallas after a CB

Wouldn't mind trading back one with the falcons for a quick late round pick for free, then having the option of doing it again for something more or staying put at 35

Belichick it.

Yeah, and the good news is it sounds like there are a lot of interested teams, so hopefully we can get more than we should be able to get.
We are on the clock now. Here we go.

Jags took Tyson Campbell
Time to hear about us Rich. I want that big trade package
-
4 mins to go JD, get a deal done

Come on, big trade.
Or JOK or Teven.
-
Sounds like we are keeping the pick
WOW
-
So is it Jenkins, Williams or a WR?
-
Rap says we're keeping it.
Pick is in.
-
We did indeed pick... Build the Wall Joe
-
JOK or Jenkins.
Granted, there are a bunch of other guys I'd justify (Dickerson, Moore, etc).
-
Saw a spoiler. Don't hate the pick but don't love it
-
Oh wow. Offense, let's go.
-
Laverneus Cole drafts us a WR in Elijah Moore
Hell yes. Playmaker baby
-
More weapons.
-
My preference was to trade back and/or finish the wall, but it's hard to hate on Elijah Moore. Dudes going to be our version of Deebo/Ayiuk and he's going to be a fan favorite guy.
I expect we make a move into the 3rd later tonight. But settle in, it's a long wait fellas
-
Speed to kill
-
Good point DJ, can we trade Crowder? If so what kind of package could we get for him?
-
Did Golic just have a stroke on stage? Davonte Davis? Guard from Alabaaaaaaaamaaaaa
-
Lots of trades so far, that's 4 so far. But not much options to acquire real capital.
Bears going up for a lineman or a weapon for Fields?
-
Not gonna lie, I would have loved to be involved in one of these trades. Going value for a ten pick drop seems about two 4ths.

Agreed, though I think Moore is a great pick.

Cowboys going for douchebags. SSDD

I'm going to be curious to see where the LBs start going. Supposedly a strong LB class and these guys are still on the board.

I think Iffy goes before us (long rangy dudes will go on Day 2) I think Trill could be there late in the 4th.
My two favorite guys left I'd love to see are Kendrick Green and Jabril Cox though. I am sure we can't get both, hell we might not even get a shot at either, but man if we found a way to snag both dudes, that would make me pretty freaking happy

Texans traded a 4, a 5 and a future 4 to trade up for Nico Collins, to pair with Davis Mills.
I'm not sure I'd be all that thrilled if I was a Texans fan tonight

15 more picks. At this point I feel like JD is going to be content to wait out tonight, and jump back in tomorrow. He has 6 cracks at the apple tomorrow as it is.

That board I made 30 picks or so ago actually held up pretty well.
My top target is unquestionably Jabril Cox. That's the guy I'd be looking at hard at 107 tomorrow.
Lots of talent left, and we have 6 picks tomorrow. Possibly could add another for Crowder, but I'd bet he plays for us this year and walks next year.

154 - Joshua Kaindoh
186 - Jaret Patterson
226 - Jaelon Darden

ALL OFFENSE BABY
-
Love that last night Coles got to announce Moore, and today Leon got to announce Carter.
He's not my favorite back left, but he is going to be fun to watch behind this line.
-
Still want to pick up Patterson
-
Carter was my favorite RB left on the board. Great vision and acceleration and one of the best pass catching RBs in the draft.
-
Still want to pick up Patterson
I love that kid, and wouldn't hate it. But I'd be pretty surprised if we took two RBs today. If he hits the UDFA market i'd be shocked, but love it

Next pick is 143 unless JD gets impatient
I think we see JD stick and pick all day today, unless he flips a pick for a vet (looking at 226).
Also we pick 143, 146 and 154. I think JD wants that run of picks. Guys will be there
-
Huminara St Brown

I think as long as we walk away with 7 players then I'm all for it too

Lions give up a 5 and future 4 for 113 and 257. Very curious who they made that move for.
112 - Amon-ra St. Brown
113 - Derrick Barnes
And that's why they didn't announce it before, the owner wanted to announce a pick and this was their last one of substance

This offense is leaps and bounds better than it was on Thursday morning. Here's hoping we can find another steal or 2 with our final 5 picks today.

I don't really want another receiver. We have a legit top 5 if we keep Crowder. Even if we cut/trade Crowder, I'm willing to have UDFAs, the Smiths, Cager, Berrios, veterans in camp compete for the last WR spot or 2.

Wouldn't be surprised if we draft a second WR or RB in the 6th. If they are a priority FA we want to bring in, I can see it. And tons of talent at that WR position still on the board.

Second RB, sure. I'm fine if none of the guys we had on the roster last year have spots. Ty Johnson is my favorite of last year's group. I'm fine if we have Adams and Perine compete for one spot (or 0 spots).
The problem is I don't love this RB class. I thought Carter was the best one available by a decent margin, and I'm glad we got him. Gainwell, Kylin Hill and Khalil Herbert are my favorites left, but I'm not in a rush to take any of them.
-
I'd like our draft picks to last longer than one season. I'd be fine with some rotation of Johnson/Carter/Perrine.

I'm trying to put that out of my mind and remember that Gase brought us Saleh and all the reasons we have to be excited right now.
And then I remember how useless that fucker was and how we would likely have given Sam a better chance to succeed with almost any coaching staff other than Gase.
-
I hate to bring up the Darnold debate, but the bar was extremely low for him to remain the guy. All of this could have been his, plus a DeVonta Smith/Jaylen Waddle/Ja'Marr Chase had he been an OK quarterback.

Bring on Trey Smith who has hopefully recovered from any blood clot issues he may have had.

Yeah that was basically why I posted it. Nice to see how various people rated our draft vs the rest of the league.

I do respect that he actually grades guys on a curve though rather than giving everyone between C and A. Grading is dumb, but go out on a limb. Even if I don't get how we are a D unless you don't like Zach Wilson at all and you are punishing us for that.

Thor hates Zach Wilson
Yup. His explanation for his ranking was that Trey Lance is a way better pick than Zach Wilson because he's 'literally never seen Zach Wilson do it' against top competition (compared to all the elite competition tape out there on Lance, of course) and that smart QB evaluators like the 49ers were basically playing the Jets into thinking that they weren't that high on Lance so the Jets wouldn't change their minds and pick him. And then this is all he says for the rest of the draft:
I liked the Elijah Moore pick a ton, and Hamsah Nasirildeen could prove to be a steal from R6. But I question the Wilson decision, I thought the Jets overpaid to trade-up for Vera-Tucker (it cost three additional picks, including two R3) when guys like Teven Jenkins and Creed Humphrey ended up coming off the board a round later.

Also he can’t math. It didnt cost 3 additional picks. It cost 1 pick. We traded 3 picks for 2.
Considering we jumped 9 spots in round 1 for what amounts to a 3rd and 5th that’s a big win for us. Comparatively 3 picks earlier the bears also made a 9 spot jump for next years 1 and 4 and something else this year. Even though they paid a premium for a QB if you look at the value of those two trades we made out significantly cheaper to go get a guy we really freaking needed.

He doesn’t grade on a curve, he grades like an idiot. He does this every year and he’s on an island by himself. Good luck coming up with an argument to defend his Jets grade against the rest of the experts. There are plenty of guys that don’t like Wilson and all of them managed not to go full retard.

Say what you will about him using hottakes like the Wilson thing to completely lower the grade vs everything else, but I think not liking Wilson and thinking we gave up too much to trade up for AVT are valid points. I think trading up for AVT is fine based on the OL situation, but two 3rds on a rebuilding team is a lot and wanting more shots at the OL is a completely valid point of view. The D grade seems a bit out of whack compared to reading other things but I think he seems to have the overall best grading system.
-
Really, draft grades in general are meaningless.
I'm not 100% sold on Wilson as being better than Fields or Lance, but I like him enough, and I've bought into the Saleh kool-aid enough to trust them. Building around him is vital, and since we haven't addressed OL enough in free agency, getting the best guard in the draft to plug-and-play is great. Trading up two 3rd-rounders for a guard isn't great in a vacuum, but I think it made perfect sense for us.
Our Day 3 picks outside of Nasirildeen and RBCarter aren't overly touted by the internet draft guys, but you can see a reason for all of them to be worthy dart throws at positions we need.
-
To people questioning the value of our trade, take a look at what the bears paid to move up 9 spots vs what we paid to move up 9 spots 3 picks after them. We moved up for essentially a 3 and a 5. They paid next years 1 and 4 and a mid rounder this year to go 9 spots.
Yes they got a QB but outside the top 10 I don’t believe the QB trade up premium exists to nearly the same level. The value difference in those two trades is massive.

To add an additional point...it's not like we're finding gems in the 3rd rd. Look at the list of our recent 3rd picks. I'd give up all of them for AVT

Nathan Shepherd has been solid.
In 2019 I would agree. 2020 he was nothing special, then again no one was aside from Q and Becton.
If he gets back to 2019 form he will be a big part of the rotation. If not? well his contract is up at the end of the season.

I have a lot more faith in Kyle Phillips taking another step than I do Nate Shepherd. Shep contributed the year he got popped for roids and then went back to being an afterthought.

I like this grading system. Doesn’t account for team /scheme fit as he obviously isn’t ranking guys with team fits in mind, but at least it’s quantitative as opposed to “they did well” rankings

So you're about as equipped to run a draft as 2020 Douglas.
