Weren't the guys on reddit making money by freaking over some speculators that were trying to get rich by shorting gamestop?
I'm not suggesting the guys on reddit are heroes by any means.
More concerning however is if this leads to future increasing of people manipulating the stock market
(I have no allusions there's plenty of corruption in it already, this would just be potentially another more disruptive layer if it becomes increasingly common place)

They aren't exactly Robin Hood, they just used Reddit to get organized so that their combined financial weight was significant enough to impact their competitors. Not the phones and call recordings at a trading company. I know from first hand experience the level of security and audit log that goes into those platforms because, well, y'know.
Encryption / decryption happens at device level, not transit, so the only way to hack into a live call is by physically tapping the receiver. Recordings are encrypted at rest and decryption/playback are security controlled and captured in audit log, often with escalated alerts.
No one is overhearing the CxOs of a trading company on calls with the White House because they're a junior tech in the company.

OK, but AFAIK the IRS doesn't accept payment in BTC or Eth or dogecoin. So if you can't hand a portion of it over as tax on the income, how can it be defined as a currency? And as Cato says, it's value is speculative. So I think there's a compelling argument that it's a stock, and as such has no realised value as income until such time as you exchange it for fiat currency at the market rate of the moment.

If i give you a 20,000 car you have to pay tax on its value. And you don't pay the tax in cars, you pay it in cash. And again it's value is speculative.
Presumably Beckhams contract was something to the effect of 750,000 paid out in bitcoin (definitively setting the value) and not something like pay him 13 bitcoins

Imagine paying 50 billion for a company worth 42 billion at the time, that's now currently worth like 35 billion.

Even if it was stable the process is so cumbersome and takes so long that it's use as a fiat currency is completely nonexistent. The "best" case existence for it as a currency was when the Silk Road was still up and running.

More likely it is proof of the limitations of blockchain tech at least with applications to cryptological programming. There are probably much easier and more efficient ways of operating and safeguarding an append only ledger.

I read a sample of an AI's college/scholarship application paper and it was honestly no worse than the handful of essays I reviewed for other people when I was that age.

Intelligence is the ability to form an opinion based on data. Ask ChatGPT to review Casablanca in the style of Roger Ebert and it will scrape all of the reviews it has of Casablanca and all of the reviews it has by Roger Ebert, and it will hash up a passable attempt. Autonomous vehicles will only get better. Human driving gets progressively worse. There will be an inflection point at which autonomous vehicles are better than human drivers, and I'm not convinced we haven't already reached it.

People that think we are on the verge of needing guns to survive wild packs of thieves looking to invade their turf daily. I'm not justifying anything, I'm saying that it doesn't matter and that if people were actually interested in eating like human beings and not battery farm pigs then it creates an opportunity for that to happen.
Fast food is not sustenance and it is not essential, it is a luxury good. It should no more matter that Wendy's introduces surge pricing or that McDonalds moves to kiosk ordering than it should matter when Ford changes the options packages on the 2024 F-150. That people choose dependency on swill like this is their own failing.

Nope. Food deserts are a thing, but the causes of them are highly disputed. There are plenty of reputable studies e.g. https://academic.oup.com/qje/article-abstract/134/4/1793/5492274 that posit that food deserts are a function of demand, and that a lack of availability of good quality food is driven by a lack of demand. It therefore follows that should something happen to impact the alternative supply e.g. junk food pricing itself out of reach, demand will need to be satisfied differently.
It can't all be "evil corporations crushing people", because to believe that would be to believe that people are completely without agency and that isn't true, especially en masse. Western, and particularly American, attitudes towards food and nutrition are completely fucked up. Something needs to happen to change that, and while Wendy's charging an extra $2 for a burger at dinner time isn't going to be the catalyst for that change it certainly can be part of it.
