Title: 2020 Cuts and Free Agents
Post by: Johnny English on January 30, 2020, 08:17:11 PM
Might as well get started given teams have already started releasing players.

Carolina released Greg Olsen, who will presumably retire.

Sammy Watkins for some bizarre reason is talking about sitting out the 2020 season.

Good quality vet but there's a ceiling on how much he's worth IMO.

I don't want to see Darryl Roberts starting ever again.  Pay the toll.

Bears release Taylor Gabriel and Prince Amukamara.

Wouldn't mind seeing Amukamara in Jets Training Camp at a reasonable contract.

Jason Peters to hit free agency.

Obviously at 39, we're talking about a stop-gap. But he still can play at a high level and would solidify Sam's blindside for a year while allowing the Jets to either draft a Wirfs and play him at right tackle or a wide receiver.

From his perspective though, I have to imagine he's going to want to chase a ring.

I bet he goes to the Pats

Although he already won a ring so he might just hunt down one last pay day

I'd rather keep Beachum.

Pats do just make a ton of sense, don't they.

Interesting to see how they'll be perceived if Brady actually walks, or how much money they'll have to play around with if he stays. They need major help both on their line and at the skill positions. I wouldn't be surprised if they went after one of the tight ends that shakes free out of Hooper and Henry.

Despite going Harry last year, I don't think it'd surprise anyone if they went WR again in the draft.

What is the deal with Marquise Goodwin?

Has he just been injured?  I feel like he would be a good guy to take a flyer on if we lose Robby.  Seems like he would fit well into Gase's system on crossing routes

Pick 2 free agents you predict the Jets will sign.  No Jet free agents (Anderson), no shitty backups no one cares about or kickers. Get both right, you get a free reach-around with full release from Puck.

-Connor McGovern

I get the Vaitai connection to Douglas, but is he any more than an overpriced swing tackle?

Quote
George Kittle and the San Francisco 49ers haven't made much progress on a new contract, with his agent saying he is looking for more than a deal that makes Kittle the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

"I don't care about the tight end market," Kittle's agent, Jack Bechta, told NFL Network. "I'm being paid to do a George Kittle deal."

Kittle, 26, is set to make $735,000 in 2020 on the final year of his rookie contract.

This offseason, Austin Hooper signed the largest contract for a tight end: four years, $42 million with the Cleveland Browns. Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry is set to make the most money this year, $10,607,000 on the franchise tag.

Kittle, a first-team All-Pro in 2019, appears to be aiming higher. The top-paid wide receivers, like the Atlanta Falcons' Julio Jones and the Dallas Cowboys' Amari Cooper, are making $20 million per season or more, while the top 10 non-quarterback skill position players average at least $16 million.

NFL Network reported that Kittle's side and the 49ers engaged in preliminary negotiations in February but that they haven't talked for the past few months, though that could be due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, general manager John Lynch said the 49ers plan to keep Kittle around for the long term.

"George isn't going anywhere. We're going to work hard to try to get it done," Lynch told KGMZ-FM 95.7 The Game. "I think they've got motivation just to reset the tight end market, as do we for him. It's just finding that sweet spot, where that is. ... When that happens, I don't know. But we're working hard, as are they, to try to make that happen. George is going to be a part of the 49ers for a long, long time."

I think it’s fair that he would want $12-$14 million a year. Yes it resets the TE market, but the games best TEs have been underpaid (comparatively) for years. But he’s not resetting the market by 5 million annually. So he can reset his wishes of $15+ million and Ross them right out the window

He’s the best blocking and receiving tight end in the NFL

Pay him
