That’s very positive news regarding Chris Herndon and CJ Mosley. Both guys have a chance to play this week. Gase sounded very optimistic about that.

We obviously need all the help we can get. The game might be close if we are at full strength.

Kind of even more annoyed that we lost in week 1 now. Would be fantastic to be 2-3 right now.

Yep. But I'm just going to assume Darnold had mono then too and just take the rest of the season as it goes.

As long as we have 6 or fewer losses, Darnold gives me hope that the season isn't over. If we were 2-3, a win would give us an inside track at the playoffs.

At 1-4, playoffs are still highly unlikely but you can create a path to get to the playoffs that isnt entirely unrealistic. People laughed when I mentioned that before the Dallas game but I think that game at least allowed us to have hope.

The good news, if we can somehow beat the Patriots, things change. Even at 2-4. We made the playoffs in 2002 after a QB change. Maybe we can do it again.

Gordon, Izzo, and Lacosse have been ruled out.
Dorsett will be a game time decision

My Prediction for the game.  Still leaning towards the Patriots, but I think this is going to be a close 3-4 point game, under 44 points total.

Patriots Offense
The Patriots have not been successful running the ball over the past few weeks.  The only way I can see them be successful against our run defense is with a heavy package.  With only Tomlinson and Watson at tight end, and their lack of depth at Tackle, I don't think they will have the personnel necessary to execute.

With Gordon out and Dorsett coming off an injury their passing attack will go through Edelman and their running backs.  Our pass defense, especially with Mosley back, matches up well against pass catching runningbacks.  Mosley, Cashman, Maye, and Adams can all be successful covering their running backs.  The question is, how well can we support Poole against Edelman?

Jets Offense
While I think our wide receivers and tight ends will be mostly ineffective against the Patriots, I think we have a strong advantage with our running back group.

If I was Gase I would make sure to have 2 running backs on the field in most situations.  Their linebackers are very versatile, but they are all big guys with limited agility.  I hope to see both Bell and Montgomery in the backfield with a ton of motion that will help identify match ups for Darnold and lighten the box for our running backs.  The Patriots play a lot of man coverage which means we will have rb/lb mismatches to take advantage of and likely 1 safety high coverages.

This is a game Gase was hired for.  Can he put together a gameplan that takes advantage of our strengths and attacks the opponents weaknesses?

If we win this game, we're a game out of the playoffs. Every potential Wild Card team in the AFC has 3 losses other than the 5-1 Bills, who we play later in the season.

Just saying.

Of course, it's almost Halloween, and we still haven't won a conference game, but we can worry about that later.
Title: Re: Week 7 - Patriots at Jets

Edelman vs Poole might be the most important matchup of the game. If Poole can handle Edelman, their passing attack should struggle to get going with all of their injuries. I'm confident the defense can stop the run, so if Edelman is held under control, we should have a solid shot.

Despite being completely predictable every week, Edelman will only have one guy covering him and will be wide open on many routes all night long. I don't care how hurt he is, they need the blanket that fucker with about eight cornerbacks.  If the Jets can't find a way to get any pressure on Brady and not let him sit back and have three days to pass, it doesn't matter what else they do.

These aren't issues that are specific to the Jets either. Edelman is wide open all the time against every other team as well.   Brady is routinely throwing to receivers that have no one within 5 yards of them.  No one seems to have figured out how to get any pressure on Brady. He almost never gets hit or sacked, and I don't think it's because he is some sort of athletic miracle. I don't know if it's because their offensive line coach has sold his soul to the devil, but he seems to routinely turn dusty turds into gold nuggets every single year.

Send Jamal every single play until Brady has to be carted off the field.

I really want to be optimistic, and I would love to be as wrong as I was for the Dallas game, but I just don't see how this game isn't over 5 minutes into the third.

There are no moral victories, but I'll be happy if they at least keep it within 10.

I think Brady is a genius at reading defenses since he's been doing it forever, and Scarnecchia is the best OL coach in the game. It's a tough combination to crack.

As for Edelman, let him catch 5-yard passes, just tackle him right away, and make a couple stops on 3rd down.

If we don't let New England bust open any big plays with coverage breakdowns, we should slow down their offense a lot. I just worry about a coverage breakdown leading to a long James White or Dorsett TD.

Edelman will get his, but the key is to tackle him as soon as he catches it.
