Definitely have concerns about our defensive line. Which is super fucked up considering how heavily we've invested in it over the years.

We did get some pressure but they were missing both tackles, and they still kicked our derriere on the ground

Getting a healthy CJ Mosley back will help stop the run

They didn’t until the very end. We had a lot of good plays on the line stopping Zeke. Not every day we will play against an RB like him or a line like Dallas’ -even without two players.

Dallas probably has the best interior line in football.  Zeke is also the best back in the NFL.

We did a pretty solid job against them today.

An unbelievably bad call especially at that point in the game. 1st and 25 and the Cowboys get gifted a first down thanks to the guys in striped shirts.

Refs had just an awful game today, the missed face-mask on Crowder was also big.

Lots of good to be excited about, but in a lot of ways Dallas outplayed us and lost

- Gallup dropping passes left and right
- going for it on 4th down down 3-7, kick that field goal and the end is a different playing field.
- same is true of the missed FG

Our defense got it done. I’m excited, but they still got run over and allowed them to move at will all second half. Did anyone else think that if they collected the 2-pt conversion we were going to find a way to win?

Positives
- Sam slinging like a boss. Great game, but that interception almost cost us the game in the end. Has to protect points. He will learn

- Ryan Griffin played his best game as a Jet

- I never thought I’d be terrified to see Neville Hewitt get hurt. When he went out, Dallas had a lot more room to run.

- Adams and Maye played really well

- Quinnen Williams made a ton of plays relative to his number of snaps played. I am not sure if he’s on a snap count because he is coming back from injury, but he should be playing more snaps if he’s able

- Leo played a strong game as well. He didn’t get any sacks (that lone honor goes to Jordan Jenkins) but he was in the backfield a bunch and jumped off the screen to me a lot more than he has earlier this season.

- for all the talk of the Dallas line, not much mention by the announcers of the Jets needing the OL shuffle when Beachum got hurt. That group still wasn’t good, Sam was running for his life a lot, but he did make them look like a reasonable group. Still very little to no push in the run game though.

- We got one. Thank god for that. We needed that in the worst way

I don’t agree with the first part. I, for once, thought we had a shot to win it if they scored. Darnold moved the offense whenever it was needed, and he could very well have put us in FG range. Ficken making it was a different thing but we’ve had a shot.
The game changed after the INT, but if Darnold doesn’t make that mistake, the game would have been essentially over by the 3Q. Then the tide turned against us but we were way better in the first half and in the NFL, even teams tend to produce even games no matter the flow.
For me, the victory was completely deserved.

It's amazing. For as many high picks as we invest in the DL, the Jets have done a great job with late picks and UDFAs on the DL over the years.

Jets pressured Prescott on 54.8% of his dropbacks (23/42), highest rate of the week

Jets allowed 3.75 yards per attempt to Zeke, his 2nd lowest total of the season.

NFL teams are 90-1 since 1991 when they win time of possession, total yards, turnovers, pick up 25 first downs, and convert at least 10 or more 3rd down attempts.

Dallas' loss to the Jets on Sunday is the one loss.

Yeah, a turnover on downs but the offense knows the risk before the play, as opposed to a sudden physical turnover. Similar to a blocked punt, same effect as a turnover but I don't think it counts as one.

Dallas dropped the ball in the redzone

But so did we. Darnold had a poor int, and a shitty penalty that derailed a scoring drive. But their time of possession was a pretty big thing

I mean it's also kinda mind boggling how we scored at ease, and then couldn't score for excrement

I watched it again yesterday, a couple of things that stood out to me and I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere:

- we did a good job getting pressure up the middle, even if that didn't turn into sacks. Leonard Williams was good, he ragdolled Frederick a couple of times

- the playcalling was OK at times, but we really did ourselves no favours in the second half with an over reliance on Sam's arm

- TruJo and Roberts looked halfway passable, both made some plays and neither really coughed up anything too significant

- Marcus Maye is really freaking good

This was bothering me during the game.  I kept on thinking why weren't we running the ball, but looking back on it, Dallas had 8 in the box all game.  You have to take what the defense gives you.  I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Gase called a couple of well timed screens to counteract this.

This excites me.  What were you seeing; good man coverage, zone coverage, run defense?

What particularly stood out was the way he was reading Prescott; there was a lot of Cover 1 and Maye wasn't caught out of position once. The couple of times Dallas did try and attack him he was in the right position and made good plays to break it up. I'm sure it helped that they didn't have Cooper to stretch the field, but Maye's a real ball player.

I think over-reliance on the screen is going to be a necessary evil until this coaching staff is comfortable with the o-line's ability to buy Sam a clean pocket/until defenses adjust and stop stacking the box to stop LeVeon.

Even when Bell isn't productive, he commands so much attention that it opens up a host of possibilities.

Maye has done a better job filling the alley than any other safety in the NFL not named Jamal Adams.

We have the best duo there.  Just hope Maye stays healthy.

On the field, you could have made a case Maye was just as good as Adams as a rookie. Adams is far more boisterous, so he would draw more attention to himself, but Maye was very good, too. Last year, he couldn't stay healthy at all.

Surely you can't invest that much money into the safety position

I guess the question is when do we trade Adams or (more likely) Maye.

Surely you can't invest that much money into the safety position

That’s a long way off. Their deals are due in separate years and Several things can affect them including injuries. Maye has one more year of control left and it might be best to lock him up this summer while that injury plagued year is still on the table for lowering his cost.

I saw shocked upon rewatching how many plays Maye was in on. He was fantastic Sunday as was Adams. If Moseley comes back, the middle of the defense won't be a veritable party for the other team.

Not really that far away. Maye has one year of control left after this season, so you either extend him or trade him after this season.

If he's ammendable to a middle of the road safety contract great we keep both. If not, then you have to seriously consider trading him instead of letting him play out his rookie deal and walk. Unless you'd be okay with him playing on a 12 ish million franchise tag the following year

Gotta be realistic. Adams is looking at 5 years 75-80 million likely.

Can we afford to to spend around 25 million a year on two safeties.

Regardless after this season we need to have a plan for Maye

Though I suppose it's possible he plays good enough to be worth the franchise tag, buying us another year to figure it out

Keeping talent under the cap is a welcome problem I'm more than excited to worry about.

As opposed to our usual thing of our talent becoming a disappointment and walking after their rookie deal.
