Overview
Smooth, fluid slot receiver whose smallish build is overshadowed by his toughness in the middle of the field and talent as a return man. Dortch is productive, but has issues finishing contested catches and will need to run his routes with greater focus and urgency in order to maximize separation from defenders. He has the hands and quickness to become a future starting slot, but there will be teams who scratch him from their board due to his lack of size.

Responsible for 39 percent of team catches and 36.6 percent of total receiving yards
Toughness cannot be questioned
Finished a 2017 game against Louisville after puncturing small intestine
Plays with fluid movement skills
Adequate quickness to separate from breaks

2 inches shorter than Welker, Steve Smith, Jamison Crowder, and TY Hilton. 3 inches shorter than Edelman, Tyreek Hill, Desean Jackson, and Golden Tate. 1 inch shorter than Tavon Austin.
Agreed that it’s definitely better the biggest barrier to him succeeding, but other short guys have made a career in this league. If you can get open and make guys miss, it doesn’t always matter.

Dortch has the same exact height/weight as Jakeem Grant on the Dolphins. Wonder if Gase would intend to use him the same way.
He averaged 29.7 yards per KR, 16 yards per PR, and 3.4 targets per game in the passing attack through 10 games until he got hurt last year.

Returners
The Jets have had a handful of players take reps at kick and punt returner in training camp, but Trenton Cannon (KR) and Greg Dortch (PR) are listed as starters.
Cannon, the Jets’ sixth-round pick last year, definitely has the speed to excel at the position. When the Virginia State product was drafted, many thought he’d battle for the return job Day 1. With Andre Roberts, who was sensational for the Jets last season, now up in Western New York with the Bills, Cannon has an opportunity to become a key cog in Brant Boyer’s system. Behind him are Ty Montgomery and Deonte Thompson.
Dortch, an undrafted free agent, served as Wake Forest’s punt returner the last two seasons and fielded 45 punts for 438 yards and two touchdowns. Following the 5’7”, 173-pounder are Tim White and J.J. Jones.
“He just has a natural feel,” Gase said of Dortch. “He looks like a center fielder getting under that thing. He catches it smooth, he's fearless. Just watching his college tape, he's a guy that we watched and when he didn't get drafted it was ideal for us. He kind of fits into what we do and his return ability is something we were interested in.”
