This is where I say:

The #Raiders will get a fifth-round pick for Osemele. Along with Osemele, the Jets get the Raiders sixth-round pick through Chicago.
-
Kelechi Osemele signed a 5-year, $60 million deal in 2016 to join the #Raiders and started 42 games for them, making 2 Pro-Bowls and one All-Pro

Excellent

Let’s freaking go

This puts a smile on my face
-
Talk about upgrading at left guard
-
Did we essentially just trade down 45 slots on day 3 for a multi year starting guard? Yes we freaking did

Raiders get pick No.141
Jets get Osemele and pick No.198
This is a good trade

I am irrationally hype but then I remind myself that James Carpenter exists and I get hype again
-
I'm a bit worried, apparently he's been on a massive health kick, lost a bunch of weight, and struggled last year.
If he can adjust and play well at a lower weight, obviously a good trade, but I'm not 100% sold.
-
At least we know protecting Darnold is a top priority for Duff.

My bad 57 picks traded down for a guy who will start for multiple years for us

300lbs is still a very large man. As long as he's maintaining his strength I don't really mind too much if he's playing 20lbs down from his previous weight, it probably helps reduce his risk of injury. Trai Turner and Zack Martin are both around there I think.

Also this:
Kelechi Osemele @KOseven0
Lol not so fast. I live to lift. April through July is bulking season 🤙🏿 gonna be scary my guy!!!

Not really
It's more of a salary dump.
The "price" for this trade is taking on his contract and guaranteed money.
More importantly than the 5th round pick we gave up, is can he come close to playing up to his salary?
Regardless this is extremely exciting, but the real cost is the $$$
-
We just landed the top free agent guard before free agency has even begun. This is fantastic.

Newsflash, in the NFL you have to pay your players

I also contend that a salary dump would involve paying us to take him. If we gave up a 6 and got Osemele and a 5 that would have been a straight salary dump.
Similar to the Browns “buying” Brock Osweiler from Houston a couple years back and getting a 2nd round pick for their troubles

Valid points, but the OL market was pretty weak.
Osmele is 3 years younger than Saffold, better when healthy, and I’m guessing Saffold will get a pretty big deal with equal or more AAV and more years.
If Saffold chose to go elsewhere, what was plan B for us?

He was in the 330s now he's sub-300. And he struggled last year.
Not saying he can't. Just that we're not necessarily getting top 5 G KO

In my opinion the move we made is better than Saffold would have been for us from a play perspective and will turn out to cost us probably less money to boot.
Also I believe his deal is out of monetary guarantees, which means if he doesn’t live up to expectations, we can cut him in a year for free and use the $11.7 million that would be his salary and buy his replacement.
We knew Gase neglected guards in Miami and watched it implode in his face. He’s obviously making sure that won’t be happening here with his franchise QB

Great trade.
Essentially just leaves C as a glaring hole on the line to address in FA. Probably the same AAV as Saffold and probably a better player.

He was also playing next to Kolton Miller last year instead of Donald Penn.

1 year younger
Ah I thought I had read Saffold was 32, good catch
-

And Kolton Miller is absolute trash
-
The only guarantee in this contract is his $500K workout bonus.
If he falls off a cliff in 2019, we can easily move on.
-
And Kolton Miller is absolute trash
Yes. Much like Brian Winters was excellent when he was playing between Nick Mangold and Breno Giacomini in 2015 then fell apart when he found himself between Wesley Johnson and Ben Ijalana, so you have to wonder how much Osemele was having to make up for Miller's ineptitude.
-

I was talking with Heismanberg about Saffold the other day, it seems like he's been playing forever. I keep thinking he's in his mid 30s at least and I don't know he's not.

Kelechi Osemele was PFF's No. 9 pass-blocking OG in 2016, No. 12 in 2017, and No. 61 in 2018. Battled injuries in final season with #Raiders but strange how entire Oakland OL got worse as soon as Tom Cable became position coach. Osemele not yet 30. #Jets

A few days ago, Connor Hughes mentioned that Adam Gase put some heavy emphasis on protecting Sam Darnold. I think it's pretty obvious that he knows his job security is tied to Sam, so it'll be interesting to see how many moves we make to improve the offense.

I think we will get one of the top two centers on day one and in week two of FA (or the back half of week 1) we will sign depth OL, specifically a swing tackle to take Ijalanas spot. I think Harrison now that he is back is going to handle most if not all interior OL duties as the primary backup

Talking to my buddy who is a Raiders fan and an absolute football nerd, the thing that worries me the most is that Cable implemented a zone scheme with Oakland last year and he's not sure that Osemele is especially well suited to that. It seems likely that Pollack will be primarily running zone as well.

Tom Cable is one of the worst coaches in the history of the NFL
A zone scheme’s success depends heavily on the concepts being run. Bates and Dennison failed miserably at times because they couldn’t get away from outside zone and we weren’t built for that. They tried to outsmart everyone by widening the field. Stupid football.

I'm so excited for the idea of sinking a bunch of money into quality veteran linemen. I miss Faneca and Mangold and Woody and Brick so much.

Yep.
Hopefully we’ll go get a center.

I'm digging this.

Don't forget about Meat. That offensive line was ridiculous. They made Mark Sanchez and Shonn Greene look like brilliant decisions.

So financially speaking Osemele was cheaper. Good to know

Carpenter just signed a 4 year deal with the Falcons
-
When the Jets traded for left guard Kelechi Osemele, Sam Darnold was one of the first people who reached out to the two-time Pro Bowler.
“He was really excited on Instagram,” Osemele said of his new quarterback. “I hit him up and told him I’m his new bodyguard here. I’m really excited about that.”

Osemele claiming that he’s received shots all season for his shoulder despite never appearing on an injury report for a shoulder until he was set to be benched for Lewis.
This is also a pre-existing injury, a torn labrum, that he is saying he needs surgery on now.

Per cimini this could lead to an investigation and draft pick fine for jets depending how it plays out

Jets released KO, brought up James Burgess
-
Good
-
Good freak him
-
This doesn't affect anything on the field. He didn't help much anyway. If we have to listen to some off the field drama all year, best to get it out of the way in a lost season like this one. Hopefully the Jets have some untold reason for doing this that makes KO's agent eat excrement.
-
Has nothing to do with the Jets, but seems somewhaty relevant and potentially worrisome in regards to this situation. Though the situations are fairly difficult, I think the end message is iffy. Unless this all gets blamed on Gase and we fire his derriere

Chiefs signed OG Kelechi Osemele, formerly of the Jets, to a one-year contract.
It’s worth “up to” $2 million. Osemele underwent surgery in the middle of last season to repair his shoulder, and things got ugly with the Jets who ended up releasing him in October. Now healthy, Osemele joins the defending champs in Kansas City where he'll try and fill in for RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who has opted out of the 2020 season. It's a great landing spot for Osemele and another veteran presence to protect the half-billion dollar man.
Ugh, watch this dude ball out now that everyone around him is good.
