Is Loggains the guy they wanted/needed?
I mean they reportedly didn't get Rhule because they didn't want him to hire his own staff... but they are basically letting Gase hire his own staff, and the first we hear of is Loggains. DC is apparently up in the air between a few candidates. So is Loggains the reason Rhule wasn't hired?

Dolphins OC Dowell Loggains will interview for the team's head-coaching vacancy on Friday.
Loggains is expected to follow ex-coach Adam Gase to the Jets to serve as his offensive coordinator. Nobody really expects him to get the Miami head job, but wilder things have happened. Loggains has zero head coaching experience and proved to be a lackluster offensive mind in previous stops as the OC for the Titans (2012-13) and Bears (2016-17) before landing with Gase this past season. Miami is also interviewing STs coach Darren Rizzi on Friday.

Orlovsky's breakdowns are good and his love for Sam is well documented, but I think that there are serious questions to be asked about who the freak lets him leave the house wearing a button down, a hoodie and a sport jacket. Lose either of the first two and you're fine, but all three is a freaking mess.

A little concerning he wants no part of the D. People flipped their excrement on Rex for not caring about the offense and he never came out and said he wanted no part of it. Glad we got Williams though, hopefully it works.

He already made decisions about the defensive coaching staff before the GRE Williams hire was official so I think he's maintaining some kind of oversight.

Good thing for Darnold is he will be in the same offense for a few years. Given the Johnsons' history we're looking at at least 4 years even worst case scenario. If you have a high profile OC, someone hires him away if he's good and he gets fired if he's bad, so in our case now Darnold won't have to learn a new offense every year or two.

Gase is very hands-on with the offense and QB, and is comfortable putting the defense in the hands of a proven, successful coordinator, with HC experience to boot.
Rex was hands off with the offense, but he put it in the hands of whatever Make-A-Wish kid walked into his office that year.

In the beginning he kept Schottenheimer from the Mangini staff, then they traded up to get Sanchez and Greene in the draft, traded for Braylon Edwards early in the season, Santonio and LT the next year. Once we moved on from that and got into Sparano etc it was downhill from there.

TBH honest he pulled a rabbit out of his derriere in '06 with the offensive personnel we had available. Too bad he never took the next step. I was honestly surprised earlier this season, when I found out he still had a job as an OC in the league.

In hindsight 2006 was probably more a result of a healthy Chad Pennington, who was his own OC on the field. He made a lot of coaches look better than they were.

You're right. I had my years wrong. He became QB coach in 2010 and I forgot Young made the Pro Bowl in 09.
My only point was to illustrate that Loggains has mostly had excrement to work with and perhaps we should reserve judgment until he and Gase show what they can do with Darnold.

The offense is Gase's offense. You guys are getting way too upset over Loggains. He's a package deal with Gase. Just accept it. He'll be there to gameplan and do what Gase needs him to do.

He's just not going to be the primary guy in Sam's development. Building on what Derek Smalls said, Gase has to be more aware of the demands on his time here than he was in Miami. Loggains is the guy who will fill the role of being in charge during practice while Gase oversees the team, and he'll certainly work with Darnold on learning the offense, but at the end of the day, this is Gase's offense and I highly doubt he's letting anyone else run it.

Last year, Loggains said that his primary job was to serve as a deputy for Gase and do whatever he can to help in "the process of getting to game day." That likely means taking a lead role in practice and putting together key elements of the game plan and being the lead voice in the quarterbacks room. Loggains will also likely be responsible for implementing the plan to develop Darnold.

I’m fairly confident that under “normal circumstances” once the new coach is hired he can choose to interview members of the previous regimes staff if he so chooses and they don’t fire people until that happens so as not to reprocess all the paperwork credentials etc. once a new HC chooses to not retain a member of the staff then he’s officially fired. It’s rare but occasionally happens. Brant Boyer stuck around after Bowles. West Goff was here for how many coaching changes?
