We never discussed it. He's still the league manager, so he'd have to reactivate the league.

I'll send him an email.

Last I spoke with him, he left it kind of ambiguous whether he'd return to the board. I don't know if anyone's spoken to him since.

If I'm taking over, I'll need IJR to transfer ownership of the league to me (if that's even possible). Otherwise, I'll have to start a new league.

We're still over three months away from the season starting so there's obviously no urgency.

IJR has already informed us that he's not running the league this year.  So if you're willing, you'll be the new commissioner.

Let me know if he responds to your email.  If he doesn't, i'll ask him to get ahold of you.

We're going to set the keeper deadline for Friday, August 25 at midnight. This means you will only be allowed to swap your keepers in the event of injury between then and the draft. We will then draw the draft order on Saturday, August 26.

My intention is to set the draft for the weekend beginning September 1 (the final weekend before the regular season). Let me know if you have a conflict with or preference towards any particular day.

My main priority right now is to make sure that we have twelve owners. I just sent e-mails out to everyone to ask if you're intending on returning. Please take two seconds to respond as soon as you can. You only have to say yes or no.

You can also respond in here. I don't care.

Andrew Ryan
Ezekiel Elliott (1st)
Marcus Mariota (12th/franchise)
Jordan Howard (14th)

I know there's a 1 round penalty for guys you kept the previous year, but what about a guy I kept and used my first rounder on last year? Does it just stay a first rounder or do I lose him?
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL 2017 Friars Club thread
Post by: Andrew Ryan on July 18, 2017, 08:13:54 PM
The league dues will continue to be $40 and they will be due on Wednesday, August 30. Since such a stink was made about the late fees last year, I've decided to do away with them. Instead, whoever fails to pay their league dues on time will be subjected to what I'm going to affectionately dub the "Theon treatment".

As long as you haven't already kept him 3 times, his value will stay at a 1st rounder.

Tenative Soss Keeps
Antonio Brown (Round 1 2014 draftee, 3rd keep)
Michael Crabtree (Round 6, first keep)
Kirk Cousins (Round Last, FA Pickup, first keep)

Also contemplating Tevin Coleman (Round 10 draftee 2016, first keep) or Mel Gordon Round 2, so any of those 5 items are potentially available for trade offers.

Also I forget how the franchise tag works, can it be applied to any one guy each season, or is it just for guys you've had since their rookie year?
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL 2017 Friars Club thread
Post by: Andrew Ryan on July 18, 2017, 08:32:15 PM
You can only apply the franchise tag to a player that either had the tag last season or was a rookie last season.

Also contemplating  Crabtree in Round 6, or Mel Gordon Round 2, so any of those 5 items are potentially available for trade offers.

Remember you can only trade a player that you're keeping, so if you want to trade one of those players, you'll have to use a keeper slot on them.

Here are my tentative keepers

Le'veon Bell (7th round franchise)
Amari Cooper (1st round)
Dak Prescott (16th round)

Question:  I traded for Amari Cooper last year, he was a 2nd rounder.  If I want to keep him, it has to be as a 1st rounder, correct?

I am still in for sure.

Anyone have a link to the old league?

Keeping Cooks (5th round franchise) and Matt Ryan (early FA pickup.  Not sure if he was drafted and dropped by someone else).  I think my other keeper was going to be Jimmy Graham (another FA pickup.  No idea on cost).

Found it, but not that way.  There is a drop down on the league page.

Matt Ryan was undrafted.  Graham was 11th round, but picked up in FA during the season.  Not exactly sure how that works, so tentatively...

5th Brandin Cooks (franchise)
15th Jimmy Graham
16th Matt Ryan

Cooks is available for trade, because freak the Patriots.  Looking for a later round starting WR and an early round pick.

I love the guy, but it's kind of shitty that one of the bigger requirements for the league has been participation on the forum itself and he is no longer posting.

If he's coming back when football starts back up, then that's cool too.  But it will be hard for a lot of the participants to discuss anything league related with him off the forum.

Talking keepers, the draft, FA pickups, and excrement here on the forum is a big part of this league.

I thought he only relinquished Commish duties.

He messaged me that he's ambivalent towards coming back and that he knows nothing about the upcoming season so he'd make a pretty shitty owner. Unfortunately, since he's the league owner he can't be removed from the league. For this reason, he's offered to share his account with someone.

The only other option is creating a new league, which I'd prefer to not have to do.

Speaking of Twitter, I hate that some skins fan claimed MantanaSoss the moment I changed my Twitter handle to something else -- it's weird to see posts from that name that aren't mine, but we follow each other now.

tl;dr -- MantanaSoss on twitter isn't me

Important note for this league...  If a rookie is drafted, he can be franchised at that round forever.  Case in pount, Brandin Cooks is available for trade.  If you trade for him, you can keep him as a 5th rounder forever.

I'll take your 3rd round pick and a late round WR starter.

And can I at least get an idea of my keeper situation while I have some time this weekend to ponder?

I think you have it right.

That's a rough bench.  Keep Gurley for the franchise tag, maybe keep Stafford.  You're going to need receivers early and often in the draft.

Draft history... even uglier. Was looking good up until I took John Brown in the 4th and Duke Johnson in the 5th. Ultra cringeworthy move was taking Jay Ajayi in the 8th and cutting him a week before his back to back 200 yard rushing games.

Unless a rookie is franchised after their rookie season, no player can be franchised.  A franchised player can be kept forever at the same draft position.  Franchised players can be traded.

Non franchise players can be kept for 1 draft position higher than the previous years draft position.

Then things get a little fuzzy for me.

A first round keeper can be kept for 3 years as a first rounder.

Once someone hits free agency during the season, they sort of reset over time.  That part I am not clear on.

Mostly right. The first time you keep a player that you drafted the year before, you keep him in the same round he was drafted in, then the round escalates each year after that. You can only keep a non-franchised player three times, so if I drafted Aaron Rodgers in the 3rd round, I would keep him for a 3rd round pick in the 1st year, a 2nd in the 2nd, and then a 1st in the 3rd. I could not keep him after that.

Undrafted players can be kept for a final round draft choice (16th round).

If a player is drafted and then released during the season, he will drop a round in keeper value each time that he passes through waivers. Meaning that if I drafted a player in the 8th round and then released him and then he passed through waivers unclaimed twice before someone picked him up, he would then be worth a 10th round pick.

That's why I was confused with Graham.  He was someone's keeper and got dropped.  I picked him up weeks later.  I would be stoked to get him at 15, but I want to play fair.

I don't see why we can't just move up the draft into August to accommodate everyone.

Preseason is risky, but most the good players are done by the end of August anyway...

I missed it last year and went 10-3.  The commish can cover your keepers.  Just do your draft board.

Yeah, so we can stop the draft several times again to fix the autodrafted keepers and waste everyone else's time?

Makes plenty of sense...

I definitely cannot do the 26th. I'm going to be in Vegas from the 22nd-26th for work, and I highly doubt I'd be able to make a live draft. I'm tentatively scheduled to fly home the 27th, though I may push that to the 28th so I can get a day to gamble.

I also can't do Wednesday, Aug. 30, since I have two other drafts scheduled that day. Any other day prior to the start of the regular season should be good.

Crud, I thought the first couple days of Sept were looking good for everybody.

Literally any day except Sunday, August 27th please. I'd even rather it be the evening of the 31st and skip attending the second preseason game. I would probably end up having to drink myself into caring about the game anyway.

On 8/27 I already have both a 6PM ESPN auction draft for a $150-buyin league and also a $75-buyin Yahoo draft at 8PM (all times Eastern). I'd draft at work or at 3am if I had to, in order to avoid the attack force delta of my 3 money leagues all drafting simultaneously. Hopefully this sounded adequately whiny and pathetic.

Flip out? What rules do I flip out for other than standing up for individuals who may or may not have this place as a priority? Go ahead list them.

Sure go ahead freak JFIF, see if he stays in the league or gives his money. I wouldn't. I don't even have time for the league, like none but I am doing it so as not to freak anyone over. I should have just said screw it and left.

We lived probably ten miles from one another and never met.

Funny when they were about to dump you for the same reason, I stuck up for you.  Let's not mention that. I would do that for anyone but Heismanberg, even though he needs all the help he can get in this league.

Sure does sound like you're flipping out.

lol, I really don't care if he gets keepers or not. He likely isn't going to be an active owner even if he manages to draft. We should have replaced him like 2 weeks ago but I guess nobody wants to play with us. .

You're definitely flipping out though.

Sorry guys, didn't see the keeper deadline. When season gets started I'll be fine. Since when have I been a negligent fantasy football player in season? Thanks Puck and AR for having my back.

Sorry, I was under the weather and off-grid entirely Fri-Sun (as opposed to just off-here), had I been around to see the email notification of the PM(s), I would have popped in.

But anyway, the PMs were asking me things I'd clearly answered already: any day that isn't 8/27 is better, but if we're married to that date, a time that doesn't overlap my already-overlapping 6PM and 8PM drafts would be highly preferable.

I see what happened - Gmail started moving my PM notifications to spam a few weeks ago.

This problem should be fixed going forward, but PM is probably the least effective means to try to get me, even more so than a post in this thread. Other than an email, the only notification is a little digit in the top corner.

I caught this via ESPN's message function you used, so that's fine.

Edit: PMs go to the primary section of my gmail now, so they'll be fine.

Every year we say this and we always just end up with ESPN again. It's so annoying because my other league uses ESPN's offline draft program and it let's you put everyone's keepers in ahead of time.

I'm sure someone will be a bitch about switching the whole league to Yahoo right now but we really should.do the draft on there since we obviously aren't going to have everyone shown up.

In theory, the commish can start assigning keepers with the appropriate round to each team.  They are on your team before the draft, you just get skipped at that pick.

If you run into any snags, I can ask my cousin, assuming eastern Texas is still there tomorrow.

Just a tip based on something I myself have fucked up in the past as a Yahoo keeper commish:

If the keeper system works the same as football, you'll definitely want to manually input the keepers into their proper rounds.

Normally when there's a longer pre-season, owners have time to set and lock in their own keepers. Once that's done and you click to "okay" them, it looks like everything's set, but nothing counts until the commish manually assigns each keeper to where he should go each round.

I like the ESPN layout/system/interface much more than Yahoo's, but the latter does have some advantages in pre-draft keeper control.

Just make a freaking decision and stick with it...instead of acting like an indecisive broad.

I've decided to keep the league at ESPN for this year. The draft will be a week from tomorrow at 8pm EST. If you're at all concerned that you won't be able to attend the draft, it is imperative that you drop all keepers off your draft board. If you are unable to attend the draft, I will draft your keepers for you.

While thoroughly apologetic for my tardiness (and tard-ness, I should have set my lineup but I didn't even consider the possibility that I'd miss the draft), I do think not getting a second round pick is a crippling penalty for causing maybe 3-5 minutes of holdup, especially when the no-show caused more like 20-30 min, and faces no penalty as things stand.

For what it's worth, I would much rather pay penance monetarily and then be able to compete I would've drafted. IE I already offered AR to match my buyin, in exchange for getting my second rounder back (which was assigned as McCaffrey, before taken away and given to the no-show)

While I appreciate your apology, you should have removed keepers from your rankings, regardless. The fact that you didn't, despite being in this league for years and receiving multiple reminders, is inexcusable.

I do think not getting a second round pick is a crippling penalty for causing maybe 3-5 minutes of holdup, especially when the no-show caused more like 20-30 min, and faces no penalty as things stand.

Yes, I know much of that was well established between the two of us, I was summarizing a bit for the league at large, due to the discussion moving into the thread.

And I accepted/funded the offer. I'm more interested in competition and bragging rights than the net financial result of fantasy football, so I'm good with taking the cash hit to compete on a roughly level playing field. Now only my terrible improvised draft will hold me back (how were all the RBs gone almost instantly?!)

BTW...you might want to login soon, your roster is a mess....and week 1 starts tonight.  I think your boy Tom Brady is starting for your team.

Are you freaking with me? I would rather drop him than try and win with that bundle of sticks

Please stop, in already tired of your whole approach to things. You want a freaking cookie because you admitted you fucked up. If I couldn't take 5 minutes to remove keepers and then couldn't bother to look at a clock or set an alarm on my phone I sure as freak wouldn't be trying act holier than thou. I'm out if this dude is allowed to be a ghost  all year then show up to bitch about everything next year.
You've got me cornered here, I'm an poopchute if I flip out and call you a moron / I'm an poopchute if I'm apologetic and deferential. I'll try to take the middle ground and let you educate me, because I honestly have no idea where you're coming from. I know you -- I know you're not an idiot -- do me the favor and help me out with this one.

I didn't/don't want cookies or recognition for excrement. Apologetic tone is more or less standard operation procedure for me, because I'm generally an easily guilted person (ie a people-pleasing hoo-ha).

I've scanned the thread and honestly can't tell what I said that came off as "holier" than anybody -- if trying to negotiate a penalty that left me with enough of a roster to bother participating came off as bitchy, well, I dunno what to tell you. Had the rosters been settled beforehand, you probably wouldn't have heard a peep out of me.

Explain something to me: How would you have handled yourself better? I'm honestly asking. The situation is: it's post-draft, despite showing up in the second round and not messing up any other picks, your penalty was losing that second rounder, meanwhile the guy who missed all 16 picks is showing a full roster, which was actually very well-drafted by the commish. Even ignoring the "fairness" there, it's no benefit to the league if you've given up competing/participating by week 5 due to a porous roster getting killed every week. What would you have done at that point? -- What I did was go for two objectives: own up to a fuckup because I hate when other's don't, and try to sort out the rosters. The result was win-win for everyone I think: I get the roster I drafted and will get to see how I fare, and the league gets a 13th buy-in to pad the pot. Would it really have made a difference to you if I claimed "I was stuck in traffic" or "a powerline is down in my neighborhood and my internet was off"?

Feeling like the matter was solidly resolved, I was annoyed to see your post ("lol yeah that made me not care what happens with this. Thanks for not lying but next time lie.") That basically reads: "you ruined this fantasy football league for me by not having a better excuse to be 10 minutes late." That comes off as so ridiculous to me that I can't rationalize it without one of us badly misunderstanding something.

And that last line of your post I'm quoting has me in another box -- seems like I'm damned if I post here, damned if I don't. I guess if having been late to the draft means that the same questions, complaints, trashtalk, etc that everyone else posts is going to be singled out every time as "you have no right to speak",  then I should probably be replaced next year.

To everyone else: please feel to label this post a giant block of excrement that nobody wants to read and continue about your business.

Probably also the reason that the site is mostly a chat room for its founding members.

Also I hope Mr. E dies tomorrow in a fashion so epic and violent that the gruesome photos of the scene become infamous memes that haunt his family forever.

But at least he would've gotten to see his fantasy team perform a two-man tag-team Chief Rape on me tonight, as Hunt and Hill combine for 72+ points and lock up a win before 30 teams have even kicked off their season.

Title: Re: The OFFICIAL 2017 Friars Club thread

I'll play whatever role makes everybody feel a little better about themselves inside (minus the one where I crawl back into my hole, because I have a fantasy league to participate in, and I'm not giving anyone the satisfaction of blowing it off). It appears 'whiny bitch' is the preordained role, whether I actually complain about anything or not, whether I own my fuckups or not, whether I speak arrogantly or deferentially, ignorantly or empathetically.
I realize that any attempt to sort out issues or reach consensus/compromise is just dismissed as 'bitching', but I'm a glutton for punishment and I'm going to speak my mind anyway, despite being fully aware that I'm not important, that I don't matter the slightest bit to most everyone here, and that I'm just a few extra 1's and 0's on a webpage you're spending a random few seconds distracting yourselves with. I find it theraputic, so think of it as a journal entry, or 'meditation out loud', where you get the option to read, engage, judge, or ignore entirely.

If last election taught me anything, it's that people will swallow just about anything spoken confidently. The same charismatic prick that buried my reputation under lies and false assumptions in the wake of the TGG debacle, is still the one that'll take every stab available.
"Attention minions, he showed up 10 minutes late to a fantasy football draft and had the audacity to want a say in his penance! Clearly this validates my past claims of stupidity, disloyalty, dishonesty, and overall bitchiness! And I definitely certainly positively remember him freaking up lots of other drafts too, trust me!" And the crowd murmurs among itself, "well, he always sounds sure of himself, plus he watches a lot of college football, so he surely must be correct about everything, shame on you, Soss!" I mean c'mon, go back to TGG? After a quick login to check, it appears I last posted there 42 months ago. It's felt like longer.

AR, I know what a thankless job running a league like this is, you handle it better than can be reasonably be expected. I run a keeper baseball league that's in year 15, and full of smart, active players, but boy do they bicker about every detail. BTW I'm curious to know if this drama fits the trend line -- was it your own idea to undo assigning me CMac in exchange for Enunwa, or was the idea another gift from my biggest fan?

MB, never change. Even when you're too quick to hitch a ride with the mob, guys like you, Puck, Badger, and IJR leaving TGG was the only reason I ever cared enough to try to carve myself a place.

And then he wants to complain about this site when he only posts here to whine like the queynte weasel that he is.
If you decide that you want to view me as a complainer, you'll allow yourself to view anything as a complaint. It was a matter-of-fact statement, I have no skin in the game and thus nothing to complain about, no other approach that this site feasibly could have taken would've rendered me any additional benefit.

Perhaps you're actually a terrible person in real life, but more likely it's only the streaks of excessive stubbornness, certainty in your own perception, and willingness to cling to confirmation bias that only makes it appear that way... kind've like Trump supporters.

I actually got in this league because you guys kicked soss out the first time. I thought a few people were just being dicks to him because he didn't take this groups side in the whole TGG debacle. I was wrong.
That's the only thing it's ever been about. Someone butthurt about a TGG ban convinced himself (and then everyone else) that I sold this league out to Petro, and still likes to drive wedges when the opportunities present themselves.
And UKK, I have no expectations of an answer, but I'm genuinely curious to know what I should've said/done to not tick you off, other than saying and doing nothing, but still actively maintaining a noncompetitive roster until the season ended, leading to my being replaced in the league due to no one hearing from me. I think that would've upset you too, so I'm genuinely stumped. Even if you're bitter enough to not grace me with a reply, do me a favor and ponder it to yourself a minute.

---

K I'm about done, this post is probably riddled with editing errors because I jumped around a lot. If I get any feedback, whether thoughtful, dismissive, or degrading, I'll attempt to give it due consideration. If nobody takes enough interest to comment, I'll just go back to periodically checking my fantasy football team.

Tl;dr

Chill the freak out you giant hoo-ha.  These guys bailed me out last year.  I didn't set my draft board, but...

At least I had removed keepers from said draft board!  It took 10 minutes.

I went 10-3, and somehow MB still won.  Make some moves in the next 2 weeks and you can be equally humiliated.  That's the fun of this fucked up league.

Why are you trying to make excuses for stupid derriere decisions?

I would've excrement on anyone that used a waiver claim on a kicker.

Randy Wagstaff back at it again.

I'll just go back to periodically checking my fantasy football team.

You're about to be periodically in this league too.

I'm going to speak for everybody on this one - they can call me out and disagree with me as well on this, but if don't want to post/participate, you don't get to play.  It has always been a requirement that you need to be active on the board to participate in this league.

One of the main reasons why you didn't take five minutes to remove your keepers is because you do not participate here unless you want to complain about something.  Andrew Ryan sent out multiple reminders through PM to remove the keepers.  And then act like a hoo-ha until you get your way.

"I don't do ever do that in fantasy football" is not an excuse here because removing keepers was a goddamn requirement because your dumbass slowed our draft down before drafting keepers.

If you want to blame me because people don't like you, get the freak outta here once and for all.  Everyone is pissed because you fucked up the draft and then acted like a bitch about it for an entire week.

No one would've cared as much if you said, you know what guys, my bad.  I fucked up.  But instead you kept going and going and pointing all kinds of fingers.  You are a bitch.  You are a snitch. You will always be a bitch and a snitch.  I'm not swaying anyone else's opinion.  You've done that yourself.

I have 12 hours to work, 10 hours to eat, have sex, and sleep.  That leaves me 2 hours to derp.

Again, talk to me after we play each other.

Did I draft Mahomes late just before you or something?  You seem more sandy vagina than usual about my kicker...

Using a draft pick on a player that will likely ride the bench all season behind Alex Smith?  Not really my style.

and plenty of Indians.  Sam Bradford is on sale, 25% off.

Any running backs available for trade?
I have a stable of 5, if my life depended on not getting 0 at an rb spot, backs.  I'm already 0-2, so my options are open.

If you go 3-0 with Andy Dalton as your starting quarterback, you might be more qualified for the Bengals' head coaching job than Marvin Lewis.

4 backs on the block.  None are world beaters, but they will get you points.  One scored over 20 this week, the other broke 30.

Chris Thompson, Duke Johnson, Matt Forte, and Chris Johnson.  Looking for a WR that could consistantly get me 10+ at WR3 or Flex.

That's fine.  They are still the starting backs for their teams.  They can sit on my bench and help me through bye weeks.

I was just looking for a WR to cover for Pryor until his QB gets his head out of his derriere.

I really, really wanted to win this season, and would've preferred someone else knock me out, but the two owners in the finals clearly deserve to be there.
I think I was a decent steward for this team this season, unlike those who couldn't help but show their true UKKcolors, and hopefully it's new manager reaps some kind of reward from that next season.

I do feel a bit redeemed -- getting my 2nd round pick back clearly made the difference between having a playoff quality team and not. The prize pool, which will go to others, was padded with an extra buyin, and if a couple bitchy posts was the worst thing anybody had to deal with, I'd say my resolution ended up as close to win-win as realistic, which was my aim all along.

Keeping myself out of the thread was a conscious decision, not an act of indifference, because I'd clearly cornered myself into a lose-lose situation. I took the route more befitting to my introverted, people-pleaser (bitch) personality, because frankly, I hate being the center of attention even more than I hate losing arguments or leaving disagreements unresolved.

See y'all around.

I really should have lost for not playing Watson but it's Soss so who cares
No matter what happens from here on out, I think we can all be thankful Soss isn’t going to win

I'll never get you, dude. But I guess if this league/thread has been your only source of impression of me, then it's likely not to be a great one.

Definitely.

My intellectual arrogance isn't what it used to be -- I just haven't felt like I've had much to say regarding the Jets beyond a couple tweets a month, unless it's in response to someone else being boldly stupid/wrong. That tends not to happen much here, enough people have a solid grasp on things to not need any further echoing from me.

I realize that only lurking to gain extra insight for myself doesn't add anything to the board, and that's what people see. I've contributed in other ways though, enough so as to not consider myself a net moocher overall (am probably about due again), but I get no one else has any way of knowing that.

Regardless of any disagreements I've had with you, I've always wanted this board to do well.

Just putting this here so I remember.

Cooks and his franchise 5th round tender is available for trade.

Likely late round keepers for me are:

OJ Howard
Marquise Goodwin
Kerwynn Williams

Would likely franchise Goodwin or Howard in the final round if Cooks goes.
