If Sanchez gets cut his contract disappears and he's immediately a free agent. If Geno gets cut he hits waivers along with what's left of his rookie deal. No one is trading for Sanchez, but it's conceivable that someone might give up a worn tackle sled for Geno if they're low down the waiver order.

The potentially season-ending ankle injury for #Broncos pass-rusher Von Miller is a serious one. He’s undergoing an MRI and more will be known tomorrow. But based on the initial read, it’s not good.

That's a different matter. My guess is that these teams feel that what comes along with signing him isn't worth it at his talent level. Maybe they are right, maybe wrong. The only way to know for sure is to have someone sign him and see what happens. You are free to agree or disagree.

He definitely deserves some credit, he is a great offensive coach. But he's also a jerk so I want to pile onto him now he's being rude about us.
Also there's a decent chance the Broncos finish bottom of that division, they're not beating the Chiefs, and if the Chargers manage to get out of their own way and Garoppolo somehow stays healthy they're going to have a job on to not be the whipping boys, especially if Russ is actually on the decline.

If I read it correctly Peyton’s take is that the Jets are actively looking to win the off-season from a PR standpoint?
Hard Knocks: it was pretty much common knowledge the NYJ looked at HK as a distraction and that it was forced on them (Saleh’s follow up “make the best of it” lip service notwithstanding).
Rogers: you have a chance to dramatically upgrade a weakness at the QB position? Tim Tebow otoh was a stupid PR move by Woody who admitted as much.

Kareem Jackson suspended again, this time for four games, for another dangerous hit.

Broncos QB Russell Wilson has been benched for the remainder of the 2023 season, according to Adam Schefter.
Wilson is in the midst of a solid bounceback season, currently ranking as the NFL’s seventh-rated passer, with 26 touchdown passes and eight interceptions. Denver has gone 1-3 in their final four games, so they will spin this as a move to jumpstart the team, but this move is not about his performance on the field. Wilson is guaranteed $39 million in 2024; however, he has an additional $37 million in 2025 salary that is guaranteed only in the case of injury and vests in March of 2024. That means that if Wilson suffered a serious injury at the end of this season that would cause him to still be injured in March of next year, that $37 million would be guaranteed to him. The Broncos are deciding not to risk that and will start Jarett Stidham the rest of the way. This move also likely signals the end of Wilson’s time in Denver as it would be unlikely they make this move and then keep him as their starter in 2023.

They traded so much for Wilson and Payton. It’s no surprise that they are falling apart.
As for Russ, I have no idea who is going to want him as their starting QB in 2024. Teams like the Giants are financially tied to Jones, most other teams/regimes will want a young guy. I’d be curious if McVay wants to give Wilson a shot if Stafford calls it quits.

They benched him because if he gets hurt, they owe him a excrement ton of guaranteed money.
-
Apparently if the Broncos cut or trade Russ before March they'll eat $48M in dead money without him playing a single minute of the contract extension they gave him.
-
is Sean Payton going to try to move up for a QB?

Lol. Love it.

Yes. But if Russ and the Broncos were good, this wouldn’t be happening. That was my point.
Since Russ won’t be a bronco next year, you have to wonder if Payton falls in love with QB 3 and trades a ditka to get his hands on him.

Denver's gonna be such an attractive place for FAs going forward

I suspect he's arrogant enough to think that he can turn whoever is available at their pick into a good NFL QB. He might be right as well.

Who else has he turned into a good QB? Are we giving him credit for Romo?

No, my thinking was more that he's a good offensive coach who will likely put a rookie QB in the best position to succeed.

He might also be one of those offensive coaches who hates rookies because they can't run his system correctly, a la Gruden

He might be, but he also made Taysom Hill a multimillionaire.

Holy excrement they’re actually cutting him
How much dead money is that

They’re still technically in the hunt for a playoff spot
Bizarre move IMO and I’m not a Russ fan (is anyone?)

I was until we all decided he was a weirdo.

Cap info

Why wouldn't they trade him? I have to think he still has a reasonable amount of value.

That contract?

Probably for the same reason the Jets won’t be trading Zach Wilson this off-season. His value to a new team will not be commensurate with his contract cost.
The offset language is interesting. It means he could theoretically sign with a contender who needs a QB for pennies allowing them to use their cap space on other players, while still making a freak ton from Denver. That might well create a group of teams who want to see him run their offense that I didn’t expect earlier.
-
Finally the Hackett/Russell Wilson reunion we've all been hoping for
Next season is looking up
-
Russell Wilson is getting released. He will start for a team this year at a pretty good value. I believe the Broncos get offsets for whatever a new team pays him, so it probably will be very little. Basically the Broncos are paying his salary elsewhere.
I know we always bring them up, but I wonder if the Patriots go after him and use the #3 pick on Harrison. Wilson and Harrison would be much less of a crapshoot than rookie QB and some other WR.

Is he going to start for a team? Not so sure about that.
Tannenbaum floated him to the Jets a few weeks ago and got ridiculed. If Hackett weren't the OC, I wouldn't think it was that crazy, but I doubt Hackett and Wilson want to work together.
Wilson hasn't been good 3 years in a row now, and he's 35 years old. I don't know if anyone is handing him a starting job. Being a bridge to a 1st-round QB may be the best role he's going to get. He's basically a more durable Ryan Tannehill at this point.

He only had 1 bad year, 2022. He was pretty good last year. Not great but he could take a team with a solid defense to the playoffs.

I wonder what Wilson would've done if he was here this past season. On one hand, with this defense, he should've been able to take us to the playoffs. On the other hand, Hackett.
-
We already know what Wilson looks like in Hackett's offense. We really don't need to do this.

The Broncos are releasing Justin Simmons.

Jeudy traded to Browns.

Cleveland loves those malcontent WRs.

I would assume this means they have decided to trade Jeudy and keep Sutton. Which of course will devastate Jet fans everywhere who were hot and heavy for Sutton
-
I dunno, Broncos feel like they might be doing a full rebuild. They can't compete with Wilson's dead money sitting on their books, so I can see the argument for tearing it all down. Sutton's too old to be a main feature of a rebuild because he'll be 30 in the 2025 season, so if there's a good offer on the table this year I think they take it.

I wonder if they will stay at 12 and take a QB, trade up for a better one, or sign a veteran stopgap. I'm guessing veteran.
