I'll edit this post with the relevant information on Keepers, the Draft, and all dates.  Please let me know preferences for a draft day and I'll do my best to accommodate as many people as I can.  If Jumbo and Puck are derriere to mouthing it again this year, maybe Jumbo can do Aug 30th.

Defnitely derriere to mouth.

Also, any suggestions for rule changes?  We can vote on them.  Take a look at scoring.

We had a few people who couldn't do August 30th.  I'll keep trying now that I see you can't do the 5th.

So MB and I agreed in principle to commence the following trade:

MB gets my 2nd round pick

I get Alshon Jeffery (whom I'll be keeping for a 7th rounder)

The trade's completion is only contingent upon Jeffery maintaining health through the Bears' 3rd preseason game.

We do have an unusual problem with the trade, though.  Alshon was slated to jump to 7th this year, but MB already has Bell as a franchise keeper in the 7th round.  He'd have to use his 6th on Alshon.  I have no problem with AR keeping him with a 7th, however MB has to be willing to then use his 6th on Bell this year.  It won't change his keeper value moving forward, but it's the fairest way to settle the issue.

How does bumping Bell to a 6th make it fair? fair to whom?

AR gets to keep Alshon at a 7th....while I go forward with only 2 keepers (instead of 3).  I don't see why Bell needs to be bumped up a round.  It sounds like i'm getting penalized a round for no reason.

I think the round escalation for Bell is both temporary and arbitrary because you would have had to give up either your 6th or 7th with Jeffery to make the trade work.

So if you wanted to trade me your 6th with Jeffery and keep Bell at a 7th the result would effectively be the same.

After this year, you can still keep Bell franchised at a 7th (or at least that's my understanding).

What?  You have to trade the pick that he's selected with.  You can send your 6th to AR if you'd like.  It doesn't matter.

Unfortunately, you have to send a pick with the player because we both need to come out of this trade with 16 draft picks.

Bell is a 7th for as long as you keep him.  It's logistics that make it necessary for you to send either your 6th or 7th to AR and use the other on Bell.

You trade a keeper.  You don't trade his rights.  I'm not sure what you were expecting to have happen here.

Here's my solution:

I give my 2nd and 7th to MB in exchange for Alshon Jeffery plus his 7th and 8th.

I'll keep Jeffery with the 7th that I receive in the trade while MB still gets to keep Bell at a 7th round level.

MB gets my 2nd round pick with the added bonus of elevating his 8th to a 7th.

More like saving him a 6th, which is what he'd have to use if he just wanted to keep Alshon.  I have no problem with this if you want to do it.  You really don't have an obligation to do so.

MB -> Andrew Ryan    Alshon Jeffery (7th) and 8th rd
Andrew Ryan -> MB    2nd and 7th rd

You're right, I'm not obligated, but I do have an incentive to ensure that this trade gets completed.

MB -> Andrew Ryan    Alshon Jeffery (7th) and 8th rd
Andrew Ryan -> MB    2nd and 7th rd

The 7th round pick swap is rendered negligible in that scenario so I could just give him my 2nd for his 8th.

This is essentially the same trade that I pulled off with Soss last year for Nelson. He needed an extra 3rd so that he could keep both Thomas and Bernard.

The only difference being that I'm trying to trade for one of the two players with identical keeper rounds.

Correct.  You took him two years in a row in the 2nd, but you didn't use a keeper on him last year.  He does not elevate the first year you keep him.

I have Travis Kelce in the 12th and Kelvin Benjamin in the 8th (rookie) available. I love Kelce at that price, but I have Gronk already and I'd rather not keep 2 TEs.

Might be willing to offers on Jeremy Hill (10th-rookie), Justin Forsett (final round) and Rob Gronkowski (3rd round), but those will be tougher to get.

One other thing - I'm with Heismanberg on changing waivers to FAAB. And making FAAB either tradeable, or buyable using real money.

Fair enough. I'm in one league where that works, but it's probably best if we leave that out.

Regardless of any type of trades, I prefer FAAB over any other waiver system.

If someone else wants to take over the league next year and switch to FAAB, I'm willing to cede control.  I have no interest in that, especially when it comes to adding in more money.  It's really not supposed to be that involved of a league.  It's supposed to be fun and low maintenance.  It's bad enough trying to collect money from people for dues ($40 in case anyone has forgotten, payable to me via Paypal whenever possible).  I still have never had dues go cleanly with no fees on my end.  I'm not chasing anyone down for money on their auctions or dealing with the headache of added trades.

I shouldn't have brought up micro-transactions, it's not fair to you as commissioner.

FAAB by itself is great though. Get $100 fake dollars to spend throughout the year instead of first-come, first-serve. More strategy that way, and it makes things fair for everyone.

I have no issue with it.  Selfishly, though, I don't want the hassle this year.  Life is too crazy at the moment.  I like being able to not think about it as much.  If enough people really wanted FAAB, though, I'd obviously accede.

FAAB is a better way to handle waivers than waiver priority based on how bad you suck and how often you use waivers.

You don't have to assign actual real life money to it.

I'm not against FAAB, but I think waivers work fine as long as they don't automatically reset (which in our league they don't).

No real money should be involved and there should be no trading of funds.

No real money should be involved and there should be no trading of funds.

Each GM would get $100 imaginary dollars (no more, no less) to bid on Free Agents throughout the season.

Like I said, I don't mind it.  I'm staying out of the vote, though, to keep it an odd number.

Because Mantana and mack want it and they made my trading Forte for keepers about 1000% more annoying than it should have been last year.

And change is super scary.

Apparently, the last minute now extends to 2.5 weeks before the draft.

Might as well not even do a draft order because that would be too last minute of a change.

I'm fine either way - I just think FAAB is more fun and more competitive.

I won't threaten to quit if things don't go the way I prefer. That seems really lame.

I'd be OK with the FAAB possibility next year.  I don't really see much of a difference to be entirely honest.  The best teams sit on a high waiver position or a pile of money either way until a blue chip comes along for them to snatch before a struggling team.

While I'm thinking of it, I'm going to use a Randomizer to draw the divisions.  It will again work as follows:

Four seeded groups:

IJR, Nope, JFIF
UKK, Fenwyr, MBGreen
Heismanberg, Derek Smalls, SFD
Andrew Ryan, JiamiPumbo, Soss

Each group will be plugged into a Randomizer in turn and will be assigned a division based on results.  This way, we won't have a stacked division with all the top teams from last year.  I'll update the first page with the results.

Sorry about Nelson, but thanks for Cooks.

Last year, I had an embarrassment of riches with regards to keepers, this year not so much.

I made one really horrid choice, keeping Patterson, could have kept Gronk one last time or Macklin or Antonio Brown.

Again, you can change whatever you want up until the clock strikes Saturday.  Soss and SFD, you might as well get something up there so you don't run the risk of missing out entirely.  Nope, which of the three mentioned do you want to keep?  Again, you can all change whatever you want up until Friday at midnight.

Undecided: Alfred Blue (16th franchise) or Emmanuel Sanders (5th)

Will you post a master list when all keepers are confirmed?

I found it helpful when bumping all the keepers down to the bottom of the ESPN draft list, so there are no fuckups during the selection process.

I think I have some really nice keepers available if anyone is interested...

PREMIER GUYS (would want a pretty high draft pick for)
- Rob Gronkowski (3rd)
- Travis Kelce (12th)
- Allen Robinson (undrafted rookie)
- Martavis Bryant (undrafted rookie)

CHEAP GUYS (would want late round pick)
- Donte Moncrief (undrafted rookie)
- Rashad Jennings (6th round)
- Calvin Johnson (1st round)
- Colin Kaepernick (14th round)
- Kenny Stills (14th round I think, could be 15th)
- Mark Sanchez (undrafted)

I'm not sure you understand how keepers work. If you trade one of your keepers, you have to give up the draft pick you would have kept that player with and you would only be able to keep two players.

So, if you were to trade Calvin Johnson for a late round pick (as you suggested), you'd essentially be giving up your 1st round pick and one of your keepers for a late round pick.

I viewed it as the player is on my roster until the keeper deadline and I would be allowed to trade him before the draft for whatever. So if someone had shitty keepers, I could trade Calvin and a 9th round pick for an 8th round pick. That way people are rewarded for having good keepers.

I don't think it makes sense that I'd be giving up Calvin AND a 1st round pick up for whatever. The other person would be giving me value for the right to keep Calvin in the 1st round. It makes no sense for 2 people to give up a 1st round pick for Calvin in that scenario.

Maybe I'm wrong though, I'm not in any other leagues with keeper rules like this one.

A keeper is tied to the pick that he would be kept with if he were kept by his original team, so if you were to trade Calvin Johnson, you'd have to trade him with your first round pick.

So a trade involving Calvin Johnson would only make sense in a player for player swap (i.e. if I traded you Marshawn Lynch for Megatron).

You're only allowed to trade the three players that you've identified as your keepers.

So, in your case, that would be Jeremy Hill (10th/franchise), Justin Forsett (16th), and Rob Gronkowski (3rd).

If you were to trade any of those players, you would also have to send the pick that you would have kept that player with.

So, if you were to trade Forsett (for example), you would also have to trade your 16th round pick.

Then you would only be able to keep Hill and Gronk. You wouldn't be able to select an additional keeper.

I would figure that a keeper is tied to a draft pick, no matter whose it was, until the keeper deadline. Then at the keeper deadline, they would lock in with those pick values.

Say you have Marshawn as a 2nd-rounder and I have Calvin for a 1st, and we do a 1-for-1 swap. If I trade Calvin, and my 1st is going with it, then wouldn't I be losing my 1st and my 2nd-round picks in that trade, since I'd also be keeping Cobb in round 2?

So, if you were to trade Forsett (for example), you would also have to trade your 16th round pick.
And if you traded me Marshawn straight up for Forsett (for example), you would also have to give up your 1st-round pick (Marshawn's value)?

So the end result of that would be me giving up Forsett and my 16th round pick, getting Marshawn and KEEPING my 1st-round pick? I would think the pick value burden would go with the player, and the person who ended up with Marshawn would end up losing their 1st-round pick.

You keep three players.  You can then trade one or more of those players.  You do not get to assign new keepers after that.

As you have designated a keeper, he's now attached to that pick.  If you're worried about value, you can agree to a swap of 1st rounders and get your value from swapping other picks.  You have to swap an even number of picks because the draft requires you to take 16 players.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL 2015 Friars Club Thread

It's not difficult, if you trade a keeper assigned to a first, swap firsts and do a second for a seventh or whatever picks are open versus your other keepers and the value you can agree on.

I don't read every single post, and I never cared about trading keepers before now. It's not like there's a post or message on the fantasy league page that says, "Here are all the rules of the league."

At least this year, the keepers and draft info are all in the 1st post in the thread - that makes things a lot easier in terms of finding keepers and some of the other nuts and bolts.

Solid point.  Fixed.

It wasn't a single post, there was a whole lengthy discussion about keeper rules and how to handle the ESPN draft requirements.  I think you must have been the only one not involved in it.  In a league like this, we strive for total involvement.  Also, I've sent out lists and messages about keepers in the past.  I apologize if asking you to open a file or click on the front page of the league is too complicated.  I put the list on the front page of this thread this year to help provide any required special accommodations for those who find reading messages, keeping up to date with threads, and clicking the ESPN league page too challenging.

Cool, did you check of espn lets you put in the keepers before the draft?

Nothing has changed.  ESPN still only allows keepers in the draft if they are taken in keeper rounds at the start.  We have to do it manually.

NFL.com allows for customization of keeper rules.  We could always hold the draft there and import rosters to ESPN, or we can follow the rules and do it manually.

I'm sorry if I'm missing something obvious.

I didn't pick up on him autodrafting back to back keepers until it was too late to pause the draft and reset the picks.  As a result, he lost a pick.  I thought it was excessive to kill two picks, so I told him to bump ODB to a late round and recoup the 11th.

To recap: he lost his 8th and 9th and gained an 11th.  I'd say that's more than fair punishment for autodrafting poorly while he's at a wedding.

So my QB draft choice was between Rape and Brady.  I will gladly accept my punishment for making the correct choice.  $40 be damned.  Was pleased with my garbage time TD, but naturally Soss has Brown.

You should only feel dirty when you win because your fantasy players BEAT your real team.  Like I thought, I lost because I got cocky and kept the Bills D in there.  If I had sat my defense let alone pick up one of the matchup plays, I'd have won.  Such is life.  Congrats.

I never understand that either. Quarterbacks are so dime a dozen, you can't trade them, and you end up just wasting roster spots.

And why roster 3 QBs when you can just take TyGod with your last non-kicker/defense pick?

It's laughable to keep Bradford if you do want to be defensive about packing it in after three weeks in a league where there's always a team with 6 or 7 losses that makes it in every year.

It's laughable to keep Bradford if you do want to be defensive about packing it in after three weeks in a league where there's always a team with 6 or 7 losses that makes it in every year.

In the past three years, only one team has made the playoffs with a 6-7 record and that was in a division where every team went 6-7. While it's certainly possible that I could make the playoffs with a 7-6 record, that would require me going 7-3 down the stretch and I don't see my team being capable of doing that the way it's currently constructed.

As for Bradford, the only reason he and every other quarterback is on my roster is because I don't have an established, every-week starter and I don't see any player in free agency as having more upside/value.

For the record, I don't like the franchise player draft pick lock either. It's half luck. If Dion Lewis ends up being a multi-year primary back for New England, I end up with a multi-year leg up because I picked a guy off waivers one week.

I think I'll be taking my first loss this week after Brown was bottled up and I'm stuck with a rather week lineup due to byes and injuries.

Puck better win it all this year.

We all know football in this forum, so this league is mostly a matter of luck. So far this year Jumbo and I are the luckiest. We all know that come playoff time 4 out of our top 6 point getters will take the day off and will be playing for 3rd place.

I am not counting our chickens that's for sure. I/we have made the playoffs pretty much every year but whether hot or cold going in the results have been the same. No big deal, I got roped into another league for more money but this is by far the most fun.

Everyone is on top of excrement here, if there's a good player available they don't last long. The only big mistakes are made during the draft and mostly that's from stuff beyond our control, namely injuries.

This is quite obviously true. I forked out my top two draft picks to secure my elite keepers, which i figured would be my best chance at continuing to compete.

I think my run is at an end though, it's Clash of the Titans this week and Puck's team is awesome, loaded at basically every position, carrying a 150 point projection into the week, double digits higher than any other team's.

But hey, any given Sunday, right?

ESPN projections are terrible. They don't even make sure their projections make any sense. They'll project a QB to throw for 3 td's, the RB to score one and then project the defense they are facing to allow 17 points.

In my other league I was projected to lose like 135-90 something last week. I won 136-83

I'd say strong projected favorites (by 5+ points) win 70% of the time, by my completely unofficial observation. It's by no means accurate, but it tends to be a somewhat decent guideline/predictor.

We got pee lucky with Freeman. If we didn't have him, our RB's are pretty much trash. I thought Hopkins would be good but nowhere near this good, it was a tossup in the draft between him and Ingram with the first pick because of all the keepers. Now it's not even close.

Not really.  Only one game left.  At best, it'll be a huge tie with all of the 6-6 teams and he doesn't have much chance to catch up on points.  I'm in the exact same boat.

I have made the fewest I have ever made in this league. I have screwed up the waiver wire 3 times so far this year. This month, I tried to pick up a player by putting Ellington on IR he was listed as "O", but after midnight and before claims settle, they changed the "O" to a "Q" and disallowed my claim and the player I was looking for was picked up by someone else. lol

Week 1 I was 2nd in the league order and I put a claim in for either Dion Lewis (was a great pick up for Soss) or B. Cunningham (beyond horrible), if I waited a week I could have had Barnridge, who I put in a claim for as well.

Basically taking out someone that has been in your lineup all or most of the season for somebody you think has a better matchup or something.

An example of someone tinkering that I luckily helped abort was my friend thinking it might be a good idea to bench stafford for Manziel in our 2QB league this week.

Newton didnt play a full game the prior week...i was afraid rivera would bench him after a big lead again....

freak if I know man.  Just throwing him out there.  Winston, Graham and Foster will likely be my guys.

Congratulations, Puck. You had the best team pretty much all season and dropping a 243 on championship was nice icing on the cake for you.

Your team finished the season with the #3 QB, #1 RB, #2/#3/#4 WRs, #2 TE, and #1 DEF. That's about as dominant as it gets.

Thank you, I am amazed at how lucky I got, a lot of my guesses during the draft worked, all except Spiller really.

Hey Puck

How difficult is it to sit in your cubicle at work with Soss's tongue lodged up your derriere?

asking for a friend.

No problem once you get past the initial tickle.

Ha, I won last year and ever since have been gloating like an poopchute about how awesome my team was, it's only fair that I give this year's monster squad some credit.

It's about damn time.  Puck has finished the season in the Top 2 or 3 every year since this league started.  A win was long overdue.  I'll send out money soon.

I made the championship game my first year in the league and haven't made the playoffs since. Next year is the year!

So Puck won this thing. He was winning big the day I was in Florida with him for the Jets-Giants game.

Geez every single player I had except 1 or 2 went off in the championship week, I had the highest total I ever had.

I just realized I never sent prize money.  Sorry, got distracted by Orlando and forgot when I got back.  Just sent out 300-140-40.

Thank you, I was never worried.

Story that's kind of related.

I"m in some small $50 league with a bunch of native Miami people, mostly childhood friends of one of my best friends. The guy who finished third place went on a sanctimonious rant in group chat and starting questioning people's ability to be adults and manage their lives because he had to wait an extra 2-3 days to collect his "winnings" because some people forgot to pay.

Goes to show the difference between a league full of self important assholes and just generally good old fashioned assholes.

I'm commissioner of a league with a group of my friends, still haven't paid anyone out.
