Go to Profile > Account Setting > Look and Layout you'll find some other options. Core is good if you're in the office and don't want people to know you're freaking about.

I think you should change the default theme for new members, so that they dont all stab their eyes out

Its just not easy on the eyes

This.

Nothing ever good comes from a colored text background on forums.

And we are just giving suggestions on what the final theme should look like, in our opinions.

Or at least tone it down a little

I mean take this Buccs forum for example

http://www.bbs.tbaybucs.com/

It has their team colors, but its tame.

Dont need people having seizures from all the colors.

The core theme is solid. I really like http://boards.atlantafalcons.com/ from an aesthitics standpoint, was browsing there last night. A theme similar to that would be very pleasant, imo.

And well done to whoever picked the name.

And well done to whoever picked the name.

We put all the names in a pit and made them fight to the death until only one was left standing. It was awful.

Iggy, Something to work on and I am not sure if it's fixable or not. When you hit reply and it takes you to a different page, when you post that reply it sends you to the home page, not back to that particular thread.
Was that by design or an oversight?

^^look above^^
Also as you notice the text looks wonky it doesn't align the text like the last forum does. It makes posts more difficult to read.

Go to Profile > Modify Profile > Look and Layout > check off Return to topics after posting > scroll down and hit Change Profile

You can also play with a bunch of other settings under Look and Layout.

One problem, if you type a really long sentence, opinion, post  it doesn't automatically take you to the next line after a certain amount of characters. I noticed you can make a several miles long string of sentences and when you finally hit "post", it makes said post look terribly constructed. Try it your self.

I feel like we have the smallest text ive ever seen on a forum, especially when somebody quotes something its barely readable

Gonna need glasses just to use these boards

Font size in normal posts looks the same to me. I see what you're saying about the text within quote boxes though.

We can, but it isn't just a drop down, it would have to be changed in the CSS files and if we're installing a new theme that issue might go away. If it doesn't disappear with the new theme then I'll fix it, I agree that the font in the quoted posts is too small.

FYI I know this is the beta but most of the other themes are similar. I can't use core it hurts my eyes. The color scheme at YDKF was perfect for me.

I'm hoping for something similar to the scheme I used at YDKF (there were different options so we may have used different ones).

I like green with some gray and a little black.

I think that is the one. The top was black with a little bit of texture, I wish I remember the name of that theme. The "core" here is too white and it just kills my eyes.

The grey and the black was perfect to look at, for me at least.

No kidding....

As far as this new forum goes, any chance we can get a "new posts" button like we had at YDKF?

Also is it possible to have multiple color schemes that individual users can choose like we had before? While the orange and black is cool, I like my Jets board to have some green & white in it, just makes more sense to me.

I'm with you on all of this. Also, a pet hate of mine is people changing avatars every 5 minutes. New rule: if you change from your original avatar it cost s you $5.

Re: the colour scheme. IJR is working on a shiny new design for the site, but in the meantime if you go to Profile > Account Settings > Modify Profile > Look and Layout, you can click on the Change link next to Current Theme and see a bunch of different options.

This board is massively customisable, both from the back end and from the user panel. I recommend taking a few minutes to go through the options under the Profile tab and have a look at the things you can change, turn on, turn off and generally freak about with.

YDKF doesn't exist anymore.  You're fine.

We were hacked multiple times over there, and as a precaution, we had everyone change their passwords.

With this new forum, we should be able to control/update our security.

Great job on the new board guys, SMF is a decent forum software, which as I'm sure you realized has a ton of options (some say too many, which makes customization a little overwhelming). My advice is to take your time with it, and keep a running list of tweak requests so you don't lose track of what you're doing. It's easy to work on one feature and get lost in the rabbit hole as you find out you can do many more things.

On another note, wasn't the previous site a wordpress site that you tacked vbulliten onto? Are we going to maintain the news/stories portion of the site, or will this just be a forum focus now? Did the hackers also compromise the blog portion of the last site?
Title: Re: Welcome to SMF!
Post by: Johnny English on October 05, 2013, 10:05:49 AM
It's a good question; I don't the WordPress side was compromised, but we basically burned the whole thing to the ground and started again. The YDKF front page, along with everything else, is but a fond memory now.

I don't think that any firm decision has been made about a front page, but we've concentrated on the forum for now. If we were to reinstate a front page it would have to be with a very clear structure and with very firm commitments from its contributors; we had a small number of people who wrote the vast majority of the content before, and as is the way of the world they all found that real life commitments ended up taking priority over writing for the front page. As a result it kind of fell into disrepair.

We've talked about a few things including perhaps doing some kind of news aggregation, but for now we want to make sure we get the forum how we want it and then perhaps we can think about doing more.

It's a plugin mod; I know there are a lot of people who use Tapatalk, and it's top of the list to do as soon as we have a theme settled and installed. I'd hope to be able to do it no later than the middle of next week, I have the software already.

Remembered the other question. Why is it that when I click the "next" button in the lower right of the thread it doesn't change the page, but changes the thread?

Also my "modify profile" button (that was suggested earlier to alter the color scheme) doesn't work. It's an "unclickable" button on my iPad.

Got on this morning and can no longer click the "new posts since you last logged on" button on my iPad, it just clicks on the whole new banner.

We'll have to add this to our "to do" list.  Sorry guys.

You big dummy.

hahaha!

Soss designed our new logo/banner, and the icons you see next to the forum threads on the main page.

He's also our new admin....make sure you give him the gears. 8)

You made that queynte an Admin. Oh god between you Johnny and Him you're the 3 Cuntateers.

you left Steve out, you inconsiderate fudgepacker.

I would say Miamipuck has a shelf life of 3 days. I see perma ban in my future.

I edited my post, you heard of half a fag? Well Steve is half a queynte.

Okay, I THINK the tablet issues are fixed: the link box around the banner should no longer be in the way of anything you want to click up in the login area.

It's a mod for this software. The problem with installing mods is that they increase the likelihood of things not working whenever we do a software upgrade for security holes etc. We already have a couple that we need to install i.e. Tapatalk that will take priority; I'm not saying no but we have to investigate it a little further first.

On that note, now we have a theme installed and settled I'll look into getting Tapatalk done in the next day or two.

New color schemes and the JO logo looks really good, probably some of the best ive seen on a jets board

I think the threads/thread titles could be slightly better but the rest really looks awesome

As awesome as the logo is, why is "the" included?  It kooks great either way but in my opinion it would be even better without the the since we refer to it as JO

What is the option i'm supposed to be shutting off here.

I have the following selected:
-return to topics after posting by default
-hide messages posted by members on my ignore list

And in the drop downs:
-topics per page: 20
-messages to display: 15
(Doubt it's either of those)
-use quick reply on topic display: show, on by default
-show quick moderation as: don't show

Not sure which one of these means "check and see if someone else posted"

Well on YDKF it was really convenient that every thread that had a new/unread post in it would have its title bolded

And this might being slightly nitpicky, but all of the threads are very bunched together (and possibly small?)

For instance

Thats 3 different boards views of threads, it seems that these threads are the most bunched/least clear

(and I totally just now noticed the "new" bubbles to the right of the threads, I guess that replaces the bolding")

Yes.  The buttons to the left indicate threads with new posts.  You'll get used to it hopefully, since there's not much we can do about that one.  It would be REALLY difficult to manipulate the code to fix that one.  It's just not a SMF thing.

If the one about threads being too close together on the board is a thing, I can take a look at it.

The bold thing isnt a big deal the "New" bubbles  just something ill get used to. TGG and YDKF just had the bold thing which is why I thought it was weird it didnt have it (plus I didnt notice the "new" thing till i took a screen shot)

I havent messed around with this on mobile yet, but I know on tablets the spacing could very well be an issue.
Possibly mobile devices too (ive never used tapatalk so no clue whether that will be affected)

The button issue could be helped, actually.  I'd like to see the "No New Post" icon lightened to make it more obvious that there are new posts.  Maybe Soss can take care of that.  As of right now, I still think the colors are too close.

I sent an index off to the admins with slight changes to quote boxes and font size in the forum pages.  Let me know how it looks when it goes up.

I'd have to go and change the code to do it, I think I can do that easily enough but it will take a little bit of time so not this side of the weekend. Standard options in the software are one quote or unlimited nested quotes.
