Adam Schefter: Jets have agreed to bring back QB David Fales on a 1-year deal, per source. Fales was the No. 2 QB to Sam Darnold for most of last season and could fill that role again this year. He played for Adam Gase and Dowell Loggains in Chicago and Miami.
He better be our third string and not Sam's backup

I have zero issue bringing back David Fales as depth, but I would like some somewhat legit competition for the backup spot. I don't really want Fales to be the primary backup, but I'm okay with it if he actually wins a competition for the spot against someone halfway competent.

Look, it's not my fault if his name sounds enough like Falk that I get the two mixed up. For his own good he should probably change his name.

I dunno, he seemed awfully cranky when he was asked about coaching up Drew Lock before the season began. Plus he looked like hot garbage when he was on the field last year, to the point where Troy Aikman excrement all over him during TNF.

That's the perfect guy. If Fales can beat out Matt Moore, then I'm fine if he's the primary backup.

I hope so. I don't believe Sam needs a true mentor any more; he needs a backup who will push him, can help him in the QB room, and has a relatively comparable playing style if he needs to step in. Flacco is by far the best fit for that on the market IMO, the relationship with Douglas just makes it easier to do the deal.

It's probably money or something, it's tough for a guy that started 10+ years to be a back-up, he might be looking for too much.

I know alot of you have been shipping darnold and flacco, but I don't see it. JD may have a relationship with Joe, but Flacco has never been helpful in the locker room for younger guys. He's said in public that he wants nothing to do with mentoring his job is to beat out the other quarterbacks in the room. I'm fine with competition in the room, but there should be cohesion and a team aspect. Flacco doesn't seem like that guy.

That was back when he thought he could still start in the NFL. If you can get him to buy into cashing in and holding clipboard, he might be at the point in his career (the very end) where he'd consider being a real backup.
